So the socialists at Time chose the press-squashing, opponent-jailing, freedom-restricting Vlad the Putin. Pathetic choice, I agree.
I would like to have this thread be a place where we can have a conversation about who OUGHT to be the "Person of the Year".
No real rules, since a conversation can go several places.
I would suggest, however, that we pick someone who is not an "icon", or who could credibly be the POY every single year.
For instance, Rush Limbaugh--I love the guy, and he COULD be POY every year...but he is pretty much extraordinary EVERY year. I am thinking we ought to suggest someone who has, this year especially, been a hero to advancing the cause of freedom.
But hey, that is just a suggestion. Let's have some fun.
Merry Christmas, Sensei Ern!
Jeff Sessions, `Bama senator.
Person of the Year doesn’t mean that Time approves of Putin: it just mean he’s done more than anyone to influence events.
France has much less influence on events than Russia. Puke-in...I mean Putin...is the obvious choice.
The press didn’t report it because no one in the rest of the country cares about Louisiana’s bizarre Napoleanic politics. If the same thing had happened in Georgia or Florida, it would have been big news.
I also vote for the President as person of the year. God Bless George W. Bush!
“Good choices, but for Freepers I would nominate the entire DC Chapter of Free Republic starting with the Trooprallys, who have spent EVERY SINGLE FRIDAY NIGHT for the last several years out in front of Walter Reed combating the Moonbats.”
I second that !!!!
Well, they didn't report it because a Republican won overwhelmingly. I can guaran-DAMN-tee you, if a Democrat had won 53% of the vote, the New York Slimes and the See B.S. Evening Snooze would have done four days of reporting on the "changing politics of the South", focusing especially on "Katrina-torn Louisiana" and how Dixie is turning into Democrat land.
President Bush already won twice.
But I think Gen. Pettreaus has my vote, and as FR is concerned, jeez, there are so many great individuals, I couldn’t choose.
[Mr] T
I’m going for Gov Bobby Jindal too. The guy is going to be president of the US within twelve years. The thing is....he has worked to earn every credit he holds. His ethic stands above the crowd.
I’m so disappointed that none of the Ron Paul supporters I know have gotten any of that cash. Can you tell me how to get it, since there don’t seem to be any records of it, and it would be a tremendous waste to Soros to support the most conservative candidate in the race!
lol...why should they? You loons supporting RP think you're somehow entitled to his campaign funds? Hilarious. Didn't know you guys liked handouts.
it would be a tremendous waste to Soros to support the most conservative candidate in the race!
Not at all. If RP gets enough Soros money he'll be able to make an Indepedent run in the general election which, as I mentioned, could very well siphon enough GOP votes in battleground states to give the Dem candidate the decisive electoral edge. Money well spent, from Soros' point of view.
General Petraeus!
I’m going with The Master (General Petraeus). Thanks to him, we just might win that Iraq thing.
Or, it might get more numb skulls in Washington to actually secure the homeland and borders, instead of the on-going lip service and shamnesty proposals.
First of all, I am not a Ron Paul "supporter" in that I haven't given him a dime, nor have I even decided whether I will be voting for him. I simply am intrigued by the way FR is being overrun by faux conservatives who love to attack the most conservative candidate running. It's a morbid sight to see personal rights, small government, Constitutionalism, etc., under siege from the right.
But my point was, you were claiming all this Soros money was going into his campaign, yet the donations are quite clearly coming from good conservative folks...so these donors must be getting the funds from Soros to funnel to Ron Paul. </sarc>
Of course, you don't seem to care about the details, in which reality resides.
I second that. There are just too many wonderful freepers to name, I’d have to write a book to list all those I admire, but Allegra and jveritas are definitely outstanding.
RP isn't being attacked around here for his consistent, long-standing advocacy of limited gov't. (Most of us heartily agree with those positions). He's being attacked for the dangerously naive (and conspiratorial) positions he's taken regarding the WOT -- his appeasement-first strategy toward enemies that can never be appeased. And those attacks are more than justified.
Paul obviously has no chance to win the GOP nomination, but the concern is what I mentioned previously -- the potential for him to tip the general election to the Democrat nominee by affecting the outcome in battleground states by going Independent. ..and he now has plenty of cash to do just that. The Dems are rooting for him to go Ind/3rd party for the same reason GOPers always hope for the Naders of the world to do the same. (GWB never would've won FL in '00 without Nader's help, thus saving us an Al Gore Presidency).
Yet the strategy of Republicans insulting him and his supporters is supposed to make him stay within the party?
Wow, talk about nutty!
lol...a bit thin-skinned, it appears. Just in case it's passed your notice Ron Paul and his supporters aren't the only ones who get bashed around here. Fred, Mitt, Huck, McCain, Rudy and all their supporters all get healthy doses of criticism. ...much of it justified.
Yet you don't see any of them threatening to leave the party because of it. They take their shots, give some back, and move on. Playing the "if you don't like me then I'll leave" card is about as wussified as it gets.
