Home Front Command Preparing Citizens for War (Israel)
IsraelNN.com ^

Posted on 12/24/2007 9:36:08 AM PST by Tigen

Israel's Home Front Command launched a public information campaign on Sunday in an attempt to prepare the public for possible war scenarios. The Home Front Command will send a manual entitled "Being Protected and Prepared" to every Israeli household, instructing the public on types of rockets and shelter options. The manual will be available in several languages.

Home Front Command personnel have also been collecting the gas masks issued to Israelis during the 2003 Gulf war, and will issue new, more advanced kits in the future.

Officials deny concerns of an imminent conflict, saying they want to avoid a situation in which residents will be unprepared, as was the case during the Second Lebanon War for citizens of the north.

I’ve wondered about the logistics of evacuating 6 million people. Houston evac’d a million in one day (Rita).

New Orleans didn’t evacuate anyone,
couldn’t find any luxury buses.

There’s going to be no “evacuation”... where would they go? Into Gaza? Egypt? Syria? Lebanon? Jordon? I think not!

Israel doesn’t need to evacuate anyone. Tehran, Damascus, Mecca, etc. might get their evacuation plans in order however.

"Home Front Command personnel have also been collecting the gas masks issued to Israelis during the 2003 Gulf war"

Huh? Why not just exchange the old ones for the new ones as they are ready?

"Israel's Home Front Command"

This sound like something our Homeland Security would do.

Israel is about the size of NJ. There is no place to run to or be evacuated from.

Excuse me, but in the midst of falling rockets, planes aren’t going to be taking off, especially not if Tel Aviv is being targeted. Most people will be hiding in shelters anyway, not going anywhere.

You have to 1) have a reason to evacuate, and 2) actually have the time and ability to do so.

That presupposes that they will “know a war is coming, en mass”.

That’s presupposing a lot. That means the population will know ahead of time, which means that a preemptive strike would likely be used to STOP such an attack on civilians.

Also understand that Israel is a very SMALL place. A few hundred miles long and not more than about 1/10th as wide, they are surrounded by mostly hostile countries, and it’s their HOME.

If placed in the same situation, say surrounded by hostile states that can hit pretty much anywhere on your home territory, are you going to pack up lock, stock and barrel and leave your home, other family members and go somewhere that you might not be able to get back home to?

I personally wouldn’t. I’d stay and defend my home, and my state, and my family, I’m afraid would remain and stand next to me and do the same.

Honestly, there wouldn’t be much of an evacuation. Most men (and many women) between the ages of 16 and 50 over there have been in the military, and are on reserve status anyway. I’d think that the entire population would fight to maintain their existence.

While doing an evacuation for children might sound logical and a good thing (and I’m not knocking trying), I just don’t foresee such a thing occurring. It’s not as feasible as you make it sound, and historically speaking, I don’t recall they evacuated in any of the other wars they’ve experienced.

If I thought the Shahabs and Ashouras were about to fly, I’d leave.

Perhaps. What about, say... TU-22M Backfires, Korean “Long Dong” and Shahab-3’s aimed at your particular city? You’d leave?

Why?

Truth is, some of those are already aimed at us. Will they fly? Perhaps not, some can’t get here, and the Russians aren’t ready to nuke us just yet. The Chinese are preparing to though.

Leaving one place that’s unsafe for another unsafe location is playing dice with your life.

While the Israelis are a tough people, I don’t think they play dice games like that. They know and understand that they must meet, and defeat force used against them with an OVERWHELMING display of force and destruction.

Americans have gotten used to the “Let’s be polite and move back after we kick their ass” routine.

Having been to some of those countries, I can tell you for a fact that there is nothing worse that religious zealots intent on killing every living man, woman and child in your country. They have no qualms about dying for their religion either, and I’m thinking the Israelis have no intention on allowing themselves to be killed either.

They will fight to the last man, woman and child - Just as you would for America if it came down to it.

I do need to point something out...

“Officials deny concerns of an imminent conflict, saying they want to avoid a situation in which residents will be unprepared, as was the case during the Second Lebanon War for citizens of the north.”

This is not a case of planning “evacuations”, this is “Preparation in-place” (something I teach myself). If you’re in the position of not being able to quickly leave an area of danger, the next best thing to do is hunker down and SURVIVE first.

This is what the Israelis will do, based on several things. Their history, previous experience with these sorts of wars, and the fact that they are land-locked by enemies. Sure, they have an ocean, sure they have a Navy, Air Force, and a massive ground force. And most of them in the military are now Vets of combat of some sort or another (even the civilians are ‘trained’ to an extent).

No, Israel isn’t going to run away.

My son was turned down by the IDF to return to his unit during last year's war in Lebanon. Their reason: he has a "criminal record" for "resisting arrest" after being beatento a pulp at Amona.

It's best they keep on their toes at all times because they have so many enemies that want to destroy them. May God Bless and protect them.

It's too bad that our cowardly government turned their back on Israel. I can forgive Bush for a lot of things, but this one is going to be more difficult.

Some of the masks will obviously still be serviceable while others may not do to neglect or poor storage ie the mask face piece loses its flexibility or a filter canister has been sitting unsealed for years & the chemicals other than the activated charcoal “go flat” from years of exposure to air.

Also the kits include items such as auto injectors of atropine a first aid treatment for nerve gas & that has a finite shelf life . After a specified amount of time it is considered unsafe/ineffective for use.

to prepare the public for possible war scenarios.

They could start by not confiscating citizen's privately owned firearms.
