McCain supports Geneva treaty conventions for terrorist and supports congressional oversight military interrogations. I don’t call that being strong on national defense.

I am not a political supporter of John McCain, but I do have immense respect for his service as a naval officer. And while I strongly oppose the application of Geneva conventions to terrorist detainees, I fully understand the personal circumstances which affect McCain's judgment on that issue. When the North Vietnamese captured John McCain III, they captured the son of the our top theater commander -- Admiral John McCain, Jr. was CINCPAC (Commander in Chief of Pacific Command) during most of his son's five years as a POW. We can only imagine what they did to McCain simply because of who his father was, so he gets a pass from me on that issue. Other than that, McCain does have a sterling record on national defense in general and in support of the current war effort in particular.

As far as as opposing abortion, it was a position of convenience and has remained so.

That may be, but due to his other major negatives (see below), I never even considered McCain's abortion stand.

McCain is opposed to lower taxes. He helped right[sic] McCain Feingold and supports Gay marriage, and amnesty (he doesn’t call it that any more). McCain is a leftist.

Bingo! THOSE are the reasons I cannot support McCain.

Once talk radio convinces Christians that Huckabee is the devil, they will vote for McCain as a last resort. You can see the voters switching between candidates in the polls.

Not in a million years. Even if he is nominated, there will be silence at the general election. LOSER.

Far left? Yeah right. McCain supported, defended President Bush at every turn, with prosecuting the war in Iraq. He WENT to Iraq! What other “far left liberal” has gone to Iraq?

What other “far left liberal” is as pro life as Huckabee?

McCain has what I’d call a “savior complex”. He is driven by a compulsion to feel like he is solving the great problems of the day and defeating the big enemies of the people. That is why we see him latching on to any media generated “crises” of the day.

Excellent observation -- the very essence of a nanny-state politician who believes Government coercion is the proper vehicle to solve the everyday problems in peoples' lives.

There is a subtle difference between McCain and Huckabee in this regard... Disagree with McCain and he might swear at you -- but he will engage you in debate. But disagree with Huckabee, and he will retreat behind his faith and accuse you of drinking "a different Jesus juice" than he does -- all in order to stifle debate. There is no arguing with a religious zealot who believes he has God's blessing to torment you. Let's have neither, please!

Truth be told, Rush thinks Hilary is the devil, McCain is the devil’s handmaiden, and Huckabee is just the devil’s unwitting minion.

Sorry about the typo, I’m a touch typist and for some reason it interferes with my spelling and word usage. I once spelled sure- shur and often use the wrong kind of there. It must be some kind of brain/fingers short circuit.

But, I am not as sure as you are that his service was all that admirable. I had a neighbor that was in the same fighter pilot class as McCain, following graduation from Annapolis, and I have read that ranking officers where McCain was held when he was first captured, said that no torture occurred, though denial of medical treatment could be construed as torture. I just feel that McCain is willing to give up the right of the US to use whatever means necessary to protect the country as an excuse for his own breaking under harsh conditions in Vietman. It's a sell out Besides, Iraq is going well now. The main issue is the general WOT, not the specific battle in Iraq. Yes, I meant battle. Maybe McCain would make a better military leader, than Commander in Chief. There's a big difference. I don't know where McCain stood on wire taps, Homeland security or military tribunals, but I would bet his stance was not on the side of conservatives.

All of this is moot. The Republicans don't have the numbers or cash to defeat the Democrats anyway. McCain's 1st place finish in NH was 3rd behind Hillary and Obama's total.

And we all know the media is going to turn on McCain if he gets the nomination, and those so-called independents that Chris Wallace thinks McCain is going to get are just going to vote for the Democrats.

Some of the same ones who say: 'Don't give me theology, give me Jesus'. Like Knowing God was not important, and they can make up their own version of Jesus.

Some of the mega-churches are big on global warming and short on science and logic.

RUSH LIMBAUGH: “My question for you evangelicals is this. If you’re looking for a real conservative, why are you supporting Huckabee? He’s completely discredited himself. What about Fred Thompson? If you’re looking for a real conservative.”

Ten Things You Need to Know about Huckabee -

1. Soft-on-crime Governor who went on a pardon/commutation spree

2. Pro-instate-tuition for illegal aliens and for other giveaways - his record on immigration stinks

3. Fiscal liberal Tax-and-spender as Governor

4. Dissembled about his record when challenged

5. Not a conservative, hurt conservatives in Arkansas

6. Ethics issues, taking public money for private use

7. Flipflopper, on immigration, Cuba and other issues

8. An incompetent Jimmy Carteresque boob on foreign policy

9. Will get beaten easily by the Democrats

10. Is a pro-regulation populist nanny-stater

Huckabee has a left-wing record on everything except guns and pro-life. In balance, he is far left.

See summary here by a Baptist minister:

Hey, wasn’t it people on FR who begged for Mike Huckabee’s band to play at not one, but TWO Free Republic Inauguaral Balls?

I see the whole eco-green-evangelicals in the same line as the communist evangelicals of the cold war era.

The democrats made a concerted plan to buy the evangelical movement and they have done so among the atheist christians.

So what are you doing on FR?

A good band no matter their politics is music to my ears! Huckabee is dissonance because he is NOT a conservative.

I post occasionally. I like to read the news stories. I am pro life, pro gun, pro iraq war, and I like President Bush. I can care less what gays do, I think they shoudl be left alone, and the illegal immigration issue often has me on the fence. Being from CA, I see how hard the mexicans work.

You and I both know that nobody in 2000 or 2004 gave a rip what that Mike Huckabee is not really a “conservative”. He was a Governonr who played the guitar well and had an “R” after his name.

I would like to sincerely thank you, Tiger's Eye, for providing us with this valuable information. It certainly has open my eyes as to the troof about Senator McCain. Scrolling through the links I found these little gems of troof that the government has been concealing from us as part of the grand conspiracy which includes 9/11. Just some examples:

That the CIA controlled the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.

That the CIA created that war in a conspiracy to control the world.

That Kemper Marley and his organized crime network controlled not only Arizona but THE WORLD through their protégés in the Illuminati and Al Capone's operation.

That McCain is a puppet of this “mobster network”.

That former Supreme court Chief Justice Rehnquist was a part of this conspiracy.

That McCain has a father in law.

That Kemper Marley and his crime network controlled ALL of Arizona's Senators and Congressmen.

That Kemper Marley and Eugene Pullium started the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Gazette to aid and conceal this massive conspiracy. And they were so slick that they did this BEFORE they were born.

That Bush 41, Dan Quayle and Colin Powell orchestrated the Gulf War as a part of this conspiracy which originated with King George II who was Colin Powell's grandpappy.

That Dan Quayle lived NEXT DOOR to Robert Welch who, with the John Birch Society, was part and parcel to the conspiracy for world domination for “damage limitation”.

That John McCain in ingrained in the webs and networks which are a part of the conspiracy to CONTROL THE WORLD.

None of this I would have known if you had not supplied me with this inside information on John McCain. I can't possibly tell you how much I appreciate your sanity, your insight, your intelligence, your perception. They are all in the best tradition of true troofers.

Oh, and just between you, me, and the whole world, YOU ARE NUCKIN' FUTS.
