Have any Freepers with DirecTV noticed any weirdness with their DVRs lately? About two weeks ago, following one of those periodic resets from DirecTV, my DVR began acting strangely. When a choose a program to record for more than one episode (and regardless of whether I choose "First Run" or "First Run and Repeats" in the recording options) my DVR highlights all episodes of that show in the program guide and in the episodes listing for that show. For example, I if choose to record "First Run" only for an HBO show like "The Wire," it still highlights all 50 or so reruns that HBO replays during the week. I even reformatted the hard drive on the DVR and it's doing the same thing. Has this happened with anyone else?
..check with Directv
Nope, it still works fine.
Get Dishnetwork.
I’ve had other issues recently with my unit freezing resulting in multiple reboots. Then as quickly as the incidents appeared, it stopped. Everything seems to be working fine now.
except for the dumb color the just changed the menu to.
Been the Dish route. Switched to Direct and am much happier!
Glad to see a thread about DirecTV. Does anyone have an issue with FNC Ch 360 where the screen is oversized, cutting off the top and bottom of the frame? Don’t recall this being a problem before switching to the HD receiver, while FNC still doesn’t broadcast in HD.
NO problems here such as you have encountered.
Did notice that DirecTV moved the MGMHD and other HDmovie channels to a different tier with a $4.99/month price tag.
Which puts them in the same frame of mind for me as HBO, Showtime, CM, etc. "Why do I need to pay to watch 20 year old movies?"
Mine is still working fine. Could it be you chose “Record Series” instead of “Record Episode”?
Have that problem from time to time.
My format usually is to blame as it goes to a "zoom" mode or some other format.
I reset the format to what I want and it seems OK.
Haven't been able to narrow down when/why this happens. My suspicion is it might have something to do with either a "ping" from DTV through the phone line, or a channel switching from an HD clip to a standard clip and back.
Can't remember if I had the problem before the phone line hook up or not.
Never used the phone line until I wanted to buy a movie and it wouldn't let me do it on-line. (My other standard DVR reminds me that it has been over 900 days since I last "checked-in" with DirecTV.) Then I discovered Caller ID on the HD-DVR receiver. Nice! I use it as a phone book now.
P.S. Good to hear from you!
I dont have a DVR with DTV. However, I have noted a LOT of strangeness in the radio signals. I have two different dishes on the house feeding three different boxes. However, no matter which one of the boxes I’m using, every so often I get “freezes”. I’ve noted the exact same thing at work (we have a DTV dish feeding out internet connection in the building for FOX news only) so this is either a satellite issue or an issue with the signal feed at the headend. Not sure which. Not sure if this is related to your problem though
I can't recommend that. But EchoStar is about to start selling OTA DV converters with integrated DVRs for $50 - or effectively $10 after the coupon rebate. It will be a good deal for owners of analog sets - a ten-dollar DVR.
Mine’s working fine. I love my Direct TV. After I had to evacuate for Hurricane Katrina, and realized that I wouldn’t be going home for a while, I called Direct TV and told them to suspend my service until futher notice, which they gladly did.
When I returned home, my satellite receiver was in perfect condition and had not been damaged by the high winds. When I was ready to reconnect my service several months later, I called DirectTV and while I was still on the phone, my service was back up and running.
My friends and neighbors who had cable had to wait for months for the cable company to reconnect their service. Many switched to DirectTV rather than wait.
I’m not with DirectTV, but in the past we had Dish, then Comcast, now Verizon FIOS and we’ve run into this problem with all of them.
It happens with all shows that re-air the episode multiple times during the week. As far as I can tell, they still consider those re-aired episodes “first runs.” So this especially happens with the premium channels which always show a week’s new episode more than once.
I either just go in and delete all the scheduled recordings, except the original I want. Or I go in a set a manual recording for the day of the week and time and then have it repeat every week.
I stay away from DirecTV. I was a loyal and on-time paying customer for five years. Then we sold our house in rural Wisconsin and moved to Las Vegas. My wife called DirecTV and told them to cancel our service. In Las Vegas we hooked into cable (I love high-speed internet that they offer!)
About 18 months later we got a collection notice for 6 months of service from DirecTV. When I called them, I discovered that 6 months after we canceled our service, they turned our service back on. Bills were sent to former house in Wisconsin. When the first 3 months passed without a payment, they attempted to call our former Wisconsin phone number. So they turned off our service for a month and then in a good faith gesture, they turned it back on for another 3 months.
I pointed out that all of our receivers (They were mine.) were in storage since we canceled our service. I also pointed out that since each receiver must call in monthly, they could check their records and see that we had not used any of their services. I have called them several times and written several letters. They are still threatening to ruin my credit if I don’t pay them.
What a bunch of thieves.
Oh that really ticked me off. We've been paying for just a few measily HD channels and finally get some more; then they take them away from us and want 5 bucks extra for the few we had. Their foreign-sounding customer service rep just couldn't understand why I was aggravated.
When you say you reset the format, do you mean for your television, or is there another format menu for the cable box? The zoom +/- for the tv doesn't help the oversized screen format for FNC. For example, the other night we had to switch over to CNN to see the NH election results at the bottom of the screen. They were not visible on FNC.
