Back at Politico World HQ for a brief respite before heading onto Michigan I've been able to catch up a bit on some reading.
These maps, courtesy of the PolySigh blog, tell an interesting story.
It appears that Romney defeated Huck in the more heavily Catholic counties along the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa.
That Mitt was stronger in this part of the state and Huck better off in evangelical-heavy western Iowa was known even before the votes for cast. It wasn't just religion Romney had worked eastern Iowa hard and had a good base of support there.
But the correlation between Huck's losses and Catholic counties is so precise that it can't be completely ignored. Catholics in places like Dubuque, Iowa, are just as anti-abortion as Huck. But did they not go for his overt emphasis on faith?
Keep an eye on Macomb County, Mich., just outside of Detroit, next Tuesday and we'll know the answer.

You forgot everyone else.
Except of course for themselves.
I've attended church services of a number of different denominations including yours, Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Mormon, Native American, Zen and Shinto. I've read and compared various scriptures and Biblical versions of most of the above and more. I've signed the acceptance of Christ as my savior page in my Gideon New Testament and I read it regularly.
But I'm not a regular church goer-- I think most of them are more interested in me as a revenue stream than they are in saving my soul. But I'm confident that God is just and he is more likely to accept my soul as saved than some of the Elmer Gantry characters like Huckabee and the Taliban Christians who want to substitute their philosophies such as man-made global warming and who is and who isn't a cult for genuine truths which can only be discovered by self-study, prayer and being more concerned with pleasing God than in forcing your particular worldview upon others.
In that respect, I'd have to observe that the Taliban Christian's favorite punching bag (Mormons) are closer to the truth than are they as evidenced by their more conservative voting patterns.
If there is anyone who is a cultist here its not a mormon. Its YOU!
Why don't you speak up and tell us what church you belong to? I will tear it to shreds and prove to everyone on this board that you are a cultist.
I will take statements from local preachers and other sources and twist them to make you look like the kool aid drinker that you are.
Now what is your faith scumbucket? If you are not ashamed of Jesus then speak up you lying piece of trash.
If you do not speak up you are denying your own faith.
I am glad someone is keeping their head about themselves because I personally am getting pissed off at them.
Jaysun is a member of the Timothy McVeigh wing of his so called religion.
I hereby pledge to try and not knock the other more honest versions when I am knocking his and his cohorts proverbial heads into the ground.
So, I guess that must mean that Protestants of the Church of ENGLAND or SOUTHERN Baptists are not Christians either and certainly not CALVINISTS or LUTHERANS.
Isn't your word game a little silly?
What is interesting though is your ego.
You publicly brag on the Internet, for all the World to read, that you, YOU, know Christ "in a personal way" but others, who you do not even know, do not.
You "sound a trumpet before (yourself), as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that (you) may have glory of men."
Why not try a little humility and allow Christ to decide for Himself who He knows "in a personal way". He does not need your arrogant help in deciding that.
WHAT IS YOUR CHURCH?!
None of your business. We’re talking about your church and how legitimate it is. That’s your choice, not mine.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
PING for great Deal Hudson article.
What do you have to fear?
You are completely correct are you not?
NOW BE A MAN and tell me what church you belong to.
John McCain is an Episcopalian, the first church in America to ordain homosexuals and have an openly homosexual Bishop.
That just shows he's flexible. ;o)
Same old mantra some of ya'll here insist on eh?
50 year old southern baptist here....fundamentalist-literalist-almost charismatic...
yet no one i know of here thinks Catholics are not Christian...never heard that in my life.
we think you guys should listen more to your Pope on some issues like abortion for instance and we were never big on liberation theology, your views of Mary, the need for clergy as conduit to the Lord, confession, you guys a guilt laden/we are shame laden...etc
but never have I had a preacher say ya'll were not Christian....never.
As for Mormons....I think are different...almost post-Christian Christian....like Sufis to Islam or Noachide to Judaism....hard to tell....it's their business.
Jehovah Witness...wow....they are strange birds....hard to say...
Unitarians....nope.
many protestants.....apostate nowadays sadly....good works salvation/faith neglectors....who often dismiss the old covenant when it suits them.
I don't think this Pope is apostate at all....he seems to stick to his creed even if it's a bit grating to we Prods....but a lot of Catholics are milquetoast I seen....they just go thru the motions. Not the ones here mind you. I wish more were devout...the West would be far better off culturally...they used to be a cornerstone and dependable.
You may not like Fundamentalists...which are different from Evangelicals......but Fundamentalists are hardly ever lapsed...by their very nature they are true believers.
this is not directed at you but the hostility directed at and the ignorance of Fundamentalist/Evangelical/Charismatic Christianity on this a right wing forum....is appalling and a sad testament to our times. I cannot imagine Dwight Eisenhower having to apologize or explain being a Christian in order to run for national office. It's nuts.
I will not. If you love Joe Smith so be it. Just go away, and love Mr. Smith if you like. You called me a liar and on that count you’re incorrect. I told you my points, none of which are lies. Be mad if you like. I really don’t care.
Then you’ve never heard a good preacher! Catholics not being Christians has been taught by every protestant denomination, but especially the Baptists since the 1500’s. Oh yeah, this all stopped with the influx of liberalism into the mainline denominations at the end of the 1800’s. You’ve never heard this?
Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart both belong to the Assembly of God church, which seems to encourage greed in their ministers.
Never ever heard Catholics are not Christian from the pulpit.
Raised and still SBC but over 50 years have attended Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican, Southern Methodist, Episcopalian, PCA, PCUSA, Missionary Baptist, Pentacostal, Real Church of Christ...not UCC.
some all over the world and have never in 100s or even 1000s of sermons heard a pastor claim Catholics were not Christian....quite the contrary actually
yes there are differences but never ever the alleged religious demogougery I hear accused on this forum
and what denomination are you?
i was not around at the Reformation though admittedly but my Huguenot ancestors were and those who escaped butchery in France came to South Carolina and hence eventually spawned me though some went back to Catholicism..
I belong to an independent Baptist church.
