This has GOT to hit the Thompson, Romney campaigns etc. for SC.

McCain has got to be stopped.

I agree. I stumbled across this while in the midst of doing a google search. I had to do a double-take! I can’t remember ever hearing about this in the MSM. These are Kerry’s own statements in an interview, and not a peep in the media.

I had heard the first but never about a statue. Does anyone have a picture? It would be most interesting to see it.

The only reason he does not change his party affiliation is because he knows he will NOT be a senator from arizona long afterwards.

Exactly. Everything about Kerry is about portraying things differently than they way they actually happened.

Why wouldn’t he lie about it rather than admit that he’d approached McCain only to have McCain turn him down?

I’m no fan of McCain’s, but I’d give him more credibility than this. With his strong support of the war and of the military, why would he want to change parties?

McCain has denied this. If Kerry is lying, wouldn’t be a first, he should attack Kerry hardcore.

..... it’s either gonna be McCain, Mitt, or Huckster..McCain has the best chance to beat the Dems of the 3 by far.

Disagree totally. McCain has been my senior senator for almost 3 terms. He is as liberal as hillary or B. Hussein Obama on almost everything and therefore has the least chance of winning agaist Hillary or Obama.

To paraphrase Harry Truman: 'run as a liberal against a liberal and the liberal will win every damned time'.

I agree McCain may not be my favourite person and for various reasons I do not want him to get the Republican nomination but I do not believe he would approach Kerry's people or even ask his people to approach Kerry's people about the VP slot or for that matter consider swapping parties.

There was much rumour about the possibility of McCain getting the VP slot with Kerry and if I remember rightly McCain squashed it by appearing with GWB at an event at a military base and giving GWB his support for re-election.

I agree he may not be most people at this website definition of a conservative Republican but at the end of the day he is a Republican

I think it was shortly after what you mention that he appeared with GWB giving him full support for GWB’s re-election campaign, there were several other events where the 2 appeared together after this.

Good point. He campaigned with GWB in close states in 2000 and 2004.

McCain told some big lies recently. Thus, I do not believe either. Since McCain is a liberal, out only for himself, and not much different from Kerry, it has the ring of truth.
