Exclusive poll: Romney closing in on McCain Monday, February 04, 2008

(KABC) -- With the California primary just 24 hours away, an exclusive Eyewitness News poll conducted by Survey U.S.A. has delivered some surprising new developments in the race for president.

On the Republican side, former Governor Mitt Romney is closing in on Arizona Senator John McCain. According to the exclusive poll by Survey U.S.A. the contest should best be characterized as too-close-to-call.

McCain remains in the lead with 39 percent of the vote, while Romney is just three points behind at 36. Meanwhile, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are in the single digits.

Compared to a Survey U.S.A. poll 1 week ago, conducted before Rudolph Giuliani withdrew from the contest, McCain is up 2, Romney is up 11. McCain had led by 12, now by 3, within the survey's 4.4 percent margin of sampling error.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton appears to be fending-off a late charge from Barack Obama. The exclusive poll by Survey U.S.A. has Clinton beating Barack Obama 53 percent to 41 percent. With John Edwards out of the race, Clinton has gained four points since last week's poll and Obama is up another three points.

Other pollsters show the contest closer.

SOOO..besides complaining, what do you actually DO to elect conservatives? I’m not being sarcastic..I really want to know what your definition of helping to elect Conservatives is.

Thanks. That is surprising. I wonder why Huck stays around except to have a role in the Convention. IMO Surely even he is not deluded into thinking he can be nominated in a deadlock (Or even VP, for that matter)

Here in Colorado I have yet to actually meet a McCain supporter. I have talked with lots of Romney supporters. We will see tomorrow night, won’t we. I predict Romney will take Colorado, for what it’s worth.

Time to get behind the least-bad of the RINOs left running.

The definition of a Greek tragedy.

This same logic was espoused by a large group of useful Republican idiots on the California Topic and now California has a liberal, European, Republican governor, the stage has been set for two other, like minded, Republican liberals to destroy the traditional GOP platform on the national level and our resident partisans continue to believe that many conservatives are politically illiterate and or just fell off the turnip truck.

If some forum subscribers are hell bent to support and elect a Republican liberal, be prepared to face the consequences by yourself. Expect flack from conservatives on the California Topic when liberals are publicly supported.

Yup! FR poll..

(2/2) Which GOP presidential hopeful do you want to see win the most delegates on Super Tuesday?

Mitt Romney 72.1%

Ron Paul 14.8%

Mike Huckabee 7.2%

John McCain 5.9%

Well, it means we can’t be complacent either. We can’t afford to indulge ourselves and vote Fred or Hunter. That will just take delegates away from Romney and give them to McAmnesty. Time to get behind the least-bad of the RINOs left running.

It sure is. McCain and the MSM must be stopped. A vote for Fred is a vote for McCain, sad to say.

How nice that 72.1% is to the very small percentage of us who were supporting Romney in January 2007. Wow!!!

Good to know, thanks AuntB.

With the coming downswing in the economy it would be far better to have someone who actually knows something about economics (Romney) than someone who admits he doesn't know a thing about it (McCain).

Or at very least, don’t vote for the flip-flopping Mitt Romney.

Mailed in a ballot while back for Hunter, but well pull a coulter and support Hillary if Mitt wins.

If California and a couple of other states will keep Mitt in it past Super Tuesday, he can count on winning TEXAS and OHIO on March 4.
