Sorry, you can’t frighten me into voting for McCain.

This kind of comment brings to mind the old adage, "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

Sure. I think some Freepers don’t see what we’re up against.

“We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” ~ Benjamin Franklin

McCain wasn’t my first choice, but I’ll vote for him if I need to. What choice do I have? None.

After 8 years of Hillary, the country will be begging for a conservative. Maybe 4 years if they're really goofy.

Good God the world must be coming to an end..I AGREE with you!

As I have stated before withe McCain or either Dim we are in for a world of hurt. I would rather the Dims get the "credit" so hopefully we can nominate a decent candidate in 2012.

Sorry. Principles are not "petty."

McCain's arrogant petulance toward conservatives, on the other hand...

And whose fault will it be? Not mine.

The GOP has been jerking us around for about 20 years now. We’re tired of it.

Through our apathy, we’ve brought it upon ourselves.

Pardon me, but how does apathy apply when my state hasn't even had it R caucus yet? When many of us said McCain was unacceptable, we were told to work for our preferred candidates. Being responsible adults, we did so to the greatest extent possible while still supporting our families, working, etc.

Now I have no voice and it's my fault?

Sorry, but I do not suffer from that particular delusion. It doesn't matter how we got here really, until the time comes to change the system. But now that we are here, I predict it will be a tiresome nine months for anyone willing to stand firm on their principles and not support someone who has by word and deed shown themselves opposed to so many of those principles.

And that applies equally to dem and pubbie alike, IMO.

John McCain is every bit as evil as everything that is mentioned in this article. There are no conceivable circumstances that would make me vote for John McCain. If he is elected, the nation is lost just as much as it would be under any of the Democrats.

Should mention the 200+ Federal Judges the next President will appoint. We are down to 3 choices of people who will appoint them. If McCain in the words of Reagan, “Dances with the one that brought you”, I would rather have McCain do the Judge picking.

Howbout cutting off the finger to save the hand; the arm, the body?

We cannot maintain a free Republic with a remnant. The people , as a whole, must be allowed to suffer; and, thus , awaken.....quickly...while the ballot yet remains at our collective disposal! 25 more years of a slow slide....not good. Time for the shock of free-fall. No alternative I can see.

Don’t you get it? Were supposed to be good little robots and vote for R because it’s not a D!

Don’t rock the boat, don’t stand for something, don’t try to make a statement.

Just go along to get along.

Now CALM DOWN! and vote for the liberal, OOPS, I meant the D light, OOPS I mean McAmnesty, OOPS I mean....

It is a shame that the only coherent (albeit unpersuasive) argument to vote for McCain is based upon what he isn’t.

He was my 5th choice...what he is is someone who'll fight the war on terror, be pro-life, keep government spending down, etc.

The Party brass didn't nominate McCain. Primary voters did.

Re: John McCain vs. Clinton/Obama [Ed Whelan]

In case you were wondering, here, in descending order, are the projected ages of the current justices on January 20, 2013 (at the end of the next presidential term) and on January 20, 2017 (at the end of the following term—possibly the second term of the next elected president):

Justice Stevens: 92, 96

Justice Ginsburg: 79, 83

Justice Scalia: 76, 80

Justice Kennedy: 76, 80

Justice Breyer: 74, 78

Justice Souter: 73, 77

Justice Thomas: 64, 68

Justice Alito: 62, 66

Chief Justice Roberts: 57, 62

Chilling; and a very good post. Thanks.

You know, another way of framing this is well, we may have to hold our nose and vote for McCain, but, it’s kinda like the strategy of General Sam Houston. One of his tactics was similar to that of the Russians v. Napolean, he kept retreating deeper and deeper into the East Texas piney woods, (a thoroughly miserable place), sniping the enemy as he went, wearing them down and refusing them a full engagement until he had them on terrain of his liking, (a swamp). So, we get McCain, we fight on; it’s kinda like putting your finger in the dyke, but it’s better than abdication and defeat.

He’s wrong.

McCain is an insecure media whore. He will do anything these people say.
