Dr. Laura: Women Share the Blame for Cheating Men. (See, it's mostly her fault).
MSNBC ^ | 3-11-08 | Mike Celezic

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has never been one to shrink from controversy, and she leaped headlong into one on Monday when she said that if a husband cheats, his wife may share some of the blame.

“When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings, sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs,” the popular psychologist and radio personality said.

More commonly known as just “Dr. Laura,” Schlessinger made the remarks while participating in one of several panel discussions on TODAY dealing with the breaking news that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been connected to a high-priced prostitution ring.

I think you’re sane. I also think I’m sane, just different :)

I just wanted to add that we're both here, on FreeRepublic...so of course we're definitely saner than MOST others..male or female!!! :)

And she should have acquiesed to his "unsafe" and kinky preferences,

According to reports, his "preference" was sex without a condom.

My guess is his stick-up-the-butt skinny, beautiful shiksa Waspy wife was a "no-go" in the bedroom. Some women just aren't "into" sex, theyre just into being married and have a huge credit card limit (with a little Power/Status on the side) ..

Next time Elliot should choose more wisely.

When it comes to the current subject, she has expressed an insight so rare that few see it as such, or are willing to admit it’s true

You sound like a liberal. "You're not willing to admit . . . ," "You must be afraid . . . ," "You don't understand . . ."

Face it: A lot of women just plain disagree with Laura. It's no more complicated than that.

But are you truly happy?

Oh, Lord. It's the "If you don't think like me you're unhappy" ploy. Don't stop to think that she might just disagree with you. No, it's far better to suggest that she's unhappy. And pitiful.

Ha! I thought you were only here to antagonize us Hildy? Now we’re sane here? Gosh, having trouble remembering things lately?

Look at the video limked in post #304 to see what Dr. Laura actually said. It’s a lot different that what is portrayed in the article. The other woman panelist and the guy are the ones making excuses for Spitzer. Dr. Laura was making generalized comments, and not specifically addressing Spitzer. In fact, she is quite harsh towards spitzer.

What are you talking about? First of all, I was responding to Najida's comment to me...nothing to do with you. Secondly, I'm doing here what everyone does here..offering my opinion on a subject. Why on Earth do you think I'm here to antagonize you? A wee bit paranoid, me thinks. And me having trouble remembering? I have no clue what that means..and frankly, don't really care. On the other hand, who is antagonizing whom?

Najida, do you think that I'm here to antagonize? I thought we were having a really interesting discussion and my last comment was just to wrap it up in a fun and friendly way. Oh well...

A heterosexual man thinks, "I would be having sex with you right now if we didn't have to be somewhere in 10 minutes, shouldn't that clue you in to the fact that I think you're smoking hot?" But he knows he can't say that...

My future wife would not have a problem with such a comment. In fact, she'd feel flattered knowing I desired her so much. I suspect Hildy wouldn't mind, either; and I suspect Hildy's husband is a pretty happy guy.

To thy own self be true is destroying the family? I don't think so. All I stated was if you change yourself for someone's else pleasure or what you perceive the other wants, well...its not healthy. Angcat said she starved and exercised for herself you added she should 'do that for her husband.' Thats where I chimed in. Again, we disagree...I think you make yourself the best you can be for you and that that sense of happiness and self fulfillment makes you a better person for those around you.

If your hormones, metabolism, genetics and such make you fat on the amount of food you eat, then your body wants you to eat less. Its that simple. If your body requires less calories than others, then eat less calories. You can not gain weight if you do not eat more than your body needs. Eat less and take vitamins to supplement.

And yes, your response is typical. Don't lose weight to make your husband happy. screw him, and make the next man happy by losing weight later. That will show him!!! And thus the selfishness of women today.... and the sky high divorce rate.

Men are simple creatures...if women got that, there would be alot more happy couples.

Like the one quote from a man in Dr. Laura's The Proper Care and Feeding on Husbands, "If I'm not horny, make me a sandwich." I would add, that I can make my own sandwich. Mens needs are simple, admiration, affection/sex, and a bit of food; and a decent man will do anything for his wife.

Of course this does not apply if the guy is an abuser, adulterer, or addicted.

How about this oldie but goodie Hildy?

Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

You will “KEEP” me around as an example - that’s rich. FR has become one big circle jerk. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. I mourn the great site this once was.

Goodbye Jim. It was a great decade and it’s been an interesting ride. I wish you and your family nothing but happiness. Life is too short for this kind of nonsense. Please close my account.

With all due respect Hildy, Thanks, but no Thanks...

I think his wife is attractive. If he wants her to do demeaning acts, she has every right to REFUSE.

Let me get this straight...lack of weight loss equates to the ‘sky high’ divorce rate via the ‘selfishness of women.’ Ooookay.

I never said any of this was an excuse to cheat. I simply said that is what causes some of it. That is not an excuse. Just because a fact is hurtful or rubs you wrong does not make it false or even evil. Fatness in formerly thin people is a big turn off for some people. Right or wrong doesn't play into it. Its just there.

Hopefully, the spouses are more diplomatic than I am being here and attempt to come to terms with the issue less bluntly. I'm just stating this as a fact to people I have no personal contact with. If we hide hurtful facts people can never move forward and fix things that are broken.

You don't have to do anything...why is everyone so mad about everything? I was just stating a fact...that Dr. Laura is the only voice of conservatism that alot of young women hear on the airways...and for that, I, PERSONALLY am grateful. IS THAT BETTER? YEESH.
