OBAMA TEAM BEGINS WORK ON PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION
The Atlantic ^ | Thursday, July 24, 2008 | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 07/24/2008 7:00:09 AM PDT by kristinn

With less than six months to go before he would be sworn in as the nation’s 44th president, Sen. Barack Obama has directed his aides to begin planning for the transition.

"Barack is well aware of the complexity and the organizational challenge involved in the transition process and he has tasked s small group to begin thinking through the process,” a senior campaign adviser said. “Barack has made his expectations clear about what he wants from such a process, how he wants it to move forward, and the establishment and execution of his timeline is proceeding apace.”

Last month, the Post’s Chris Cillizza reported that campaign advisers were sounding out John Podesta, a former White House chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and currently the president of the Center for American Progress, for his advice.

An aide confirms that Podesta will probably be asked to head the transition team, which would take over from the campaign if Obama wins in November, and would be tasked with ensuring a smooth handover of power.

Podesta’s Center for American Progress is working with the Third Way think tank on a Homeland Security Presidential Transition Initiative; its director is Michael Signer, a former senior policy aide to Ex-Sen. John Edwards.

Cassandra Butts, a longtime Obama friend who is a CAP executive vice president, is working closely with Podesta.

Butts, via e-mail, would not confirm her participation in the project.

Podesta remains a close friend of both Clintons and his participation will help assuage the concerns of Clinton-era Democratic policy and political appointees who might have felt abandoned in an Obama administration.

Excellent point. Puts me in mind of that scene in Lord of the Rings where the “free peoples” are arguing with one another at the council meeting while Frodo sees the vision of his home being destroyed.

“...They have already surrendered to a radical left ...”

I didn’t. And won’t. Obviously, neither did/will you.

Keep the faith, brother.

LOL, you mccainiaks are soo confused, try getting mccain to act conservative before you ask conservatives to support and vote for him..a few hints: free speech, open borders,
global warming, on and on.. your man is a democrat plant
sent to destroy the GOP..and he is doing a great job at that - vote for who you want but don't come to FR and tell us to support this leader of the gang of 14..

“...By Nov, people are either gonna be so numb from nearly 2 YEARS of this political masturbation that theyll pull the lever just to make him go away, or to just get it over with...”

Which makes the case all the more for us to do OUR job and convince 10 people (each) what/who Obama really is and who the people pulling his strings are.

Set it as a goal; 10 people each. Inside our personal spheres of influence, we all come in contact with AT LEAST 10 people each day.

Start pushing now, if you haven’t already, and I mean pushing beyond Free Republic. Most of us out here are conservative Patriots anyway; we’re informed, so it’s our duty, obligation, and responsibility as Citizens to inform those who aren’t.

Some will listen, some won’t. But try anyway.

Movements START because people PUSH them.

LFOD, indeed, brother (and Sister Jo!!!!).

Duncan Hunter was my choice. I supported him until the day he officially dropped out of the race. I disagree with McCain on a myriad of issues, but I will support him because I do not want radical leftist Barack Obama elected.

We also paid our fair share (if not more, we lived in NJ all of our lives until Dec. 2007!) of taxes while we rented, property and all other taxes.

I will not argue that you didn't pay a lot in taxes, but the fact is you did not pay your fair share. Again, NO one in America is paying their "fair" share. Landowners pay far MORE than their fair share.

Think about the distribution of how income taxes are collected. The top 1% of earners pay 39% of the tax revenue, and the bottom 50% pay only 3%. Think about that...

Most people pay far less than their "fair" share and a few pay far more than their fair share. It's just an ugly truth under today's liberal government.

"Sounds to me like they have already counted the votes."

Thanks in large part to ACORN's morgue registrations, they feel they have a solid enough lead in the polls to go ahead and call this one. After all, NBC, CBS and ABC have already declared him the winner, elections are such diminutive formalities these days.

"I can't agree more. These brain dead poster that live in a 11 year old fantasy world in which we let our enemies ( the Obama radical left)win so we can win later. That is the same fantasy nonsense they were promoting in 2006 and now thanks to there great strategy the radical left controls congress and plans to deny the overseas troops the right in this election !

Whats the quote? Jumping off a cliff with flags waiving is still jumping off a cliff.....

He really said "“leaders who I WILL be working with for the next 8 to 10 years”. ?

So, he's going to go a head and change the election cycle...maybe just declare himself the leader forevermore?

What a dunce this guy is. How Democrats can not see what a moron they have chosen to run for president is so far beyond me it is utterly amazing.

At least I am fighting the radical left and not giving up. Why are you mocking people who are patriotic on this website . I think you need to go back to the DU for that kind of trashing of American talk.

First I will admit to not being a math whiz. Out of $13,310 rent paid in a year, our property taxes paid were $2396...on something we didn’t even own of course, renters pay the landlord’s property taxes.

Now owning a home with an acre of property, our property taxes are $2600 (out of NJ, otherwise it would be near triple that!), seems a bit comparable.

I agree about how income taxes are collected, but not that only landowners should be allowed to vote.

Transition team? How outrageously cocky for him to have a transition team in place more than three months before the election!

Does he intend to abide by the election results or will he assume power even if he loses?

Even Dewey waited until October to plan his “transition”. Maybe the American people are unaware of how much Oprah’s Obama will cost them in perks, pensions, etc. Perhaps they could not understand even if so informed.

Do you believe landowners or non landowners consume the resources of government at a higher or lower rate than non-landowners?

I went checking for a quote, and he actually said "expect to be" instead of "will be".

"Today on CBS’s Face the Nation, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Afghanistan, told the paparazzi-pursued correspondent Lara Logan that “the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years."

“Obama’s propagandists have the audacity of thinking smart, thinking big....and thinking ahead.”

You got that right. And they have the Hollywood film propagandists aiding and abetting Obama’s campaign with video, staging, and highlighting of Obama in the best possible light. Leni Reisenthal would be proud. The Obama camp is running a marvelous campaign propaganda machine.

Obama is a weaker candidate than either Kerry or Gore.

I just don’t see him winning this election. It’s John McLame’s to win or lose.
