ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

A bit of a shock on the face of it but on reflection I’d say it’ll have little effect on the base’s support. McCain and his team knew before the pick and went with Sarah anyway. Nothing to see here, move along.

Actually, this is not a good thing. It is a statement that some of those familly values that Sarah is advancing could not even be passed along to her own kid. I'm certain she did try to pass on those values. Kids do the darnedest things.
