Emerging from the St. Paul shadows for her star turn at the Republican National Convention, Sarah Palin didnt disappoint the thousands of delegates in the Xcel Center, who gave her a thunderous embrace after several rocky days in the national spotlight. The question remains whether her performance was enough to win over the 60 percent of the nation who say they dont know enough about her to have an opinion But by almost any measure, her performance exceeded expectations.
Giving a multi-purpose address with ease and style, Palin delivered on the promise that John McCains campaign made when they unveiled her as McCains running mate. One part introduction, one part resume-enhancer and one part attack on Barack Obama, Palins speech did something that no Republican has been able to accomplish throughout this election - energize the party.
The Alaskan governor has managed to overshadow the real star of this convention, John McCain, although not always for the better. First impressions matter, and for the past several days, Americans havent exactly seen the most positive view of the new face on the political scene. Family issues aside, a glance at Palins record has exposed some gaps between rhetoric and action and questions about her readiness for high national office. And there had been precious little positive news to counter it.

Gosh, CBS, do you suppose that your non-stop parroting of the Obama campaign's anti-Palin talking points might have been a factor in that?
To have a first impression you have to meet a person, and the nation did not meet Sarah Palin until tonight. Before tonight, all the nation got were stories about Palin, stories that were filtered through the extreme bias of the media.
But tonight Palin introduced herself to the American people. The media could not censure her as she spoke on the television. She spoke directly to the people in front of her, to their minds and their hearts.
The shills for the Democrat party in the media can spin this speech any way they want. The American people know what kind of person they meet tonight in their living rooms. They won't need anyone to tell them what they saw and heard. They will form their own impression. And it was indeed a very good first impression.
That's a very strange name. Sounds hauntingly familiar though.
I watched Bob Schieffer grinning like a Cheshire Cat with his blues eyes gleaming all through her speech.
he knew newsworthy political gold when he saw it unfolding, he’s been around since the early 60s
I wonder if he wrote this..
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

(Who was that old fogey she was with?)
Way back when the Veep Stakes began, I always said: "The camera will love this woman!"
Absolutely. Palin has the ability to communicate personally and intimately with her audience. She has a very bright future with the Republican Party.
Kind of like, oh, America's first impressions of Katie Couric doing evening news. Right, See B.S.?
If it was close to, or exceeding that number, you'll never hear about it.
Exactly.
CB&S Marketing has really done its number one client, the DNC a real disservice here.
This must be a cover piece to protect the CB&S journalism front ahead of wicked hit pieces being assembled.
The best part of Obama's campaign is his appearance and his speeches. They don't have to be grounded in reality or make a lick of sense (and they don't), they just have to further his campaign. Bill Clinton could do that (nobody could fake sincerity like Ole Bill), Gore couldn't. Libs who are dismissing Palin's speeches because they hate conservative Republicans should not make that mistake. Hopefully their "misunderestimation" of Palin continues up to the election.
Barack Hussein Obama - community organizer (it's like a small town mayor, but without any responsibility)

GRAND SLAM WALK OFF HOME RUN.
That’s because they don’t know what families actually look like.
Yea, but Sarah has substance AND style. A one two punch.
