Sarah Palin brings the Hillary Clinton era to an end
Telegraph.co.uk ^ | 6 Sept 2008 | Anne Applebaum

Posted on 09/06/2008 12:36:51 PM PDT by CaraM

Whether or not Sarah Palin wins, for American women, politics will never be the same again, says Anne Applebaum.

.....The interest in her (Palin) and her life story is no fluke, either. Following the failure of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Palin is suddenly, and flamboyantly, the most prominent female politician in the country. At age 44, she is also the most prominent representative of her generation of women – a generation which already looks set to be different, in important ways, from its predecessors.

Unlike Hillary and her contemporaries, the women of Palin’s generation are not feminists, but rather post-feminist. Born at the very tail end of the baby boom or after it had ended, the post-feminists grew up in a world in which the revolutions of the Sixties – sexual as well as political – were already taken for granted....

....More to the point, they want to know how she (Palin) does it while appearing utterly unbothered by the conflict at all – so much so that she fired the chef in the Alaska governor’s mansion, on the grounds that her children ought to learn how to make their own sandwiches. She has described switching between “breast pump and BlackBerrys” (note the use of the plural; she has two BlackBerrys) in the middle of the night, and there are photographs of her at her desk, baby Trig beside her. And all of this without looking at all frazzled, or badly groomed, or distressed. She positively radiates self-discipline and organisational skills, waving her freshly manicured nails, moving rapidly in high heels.

Wait till Sarah has her first debate with Biden.

Unless mccain indicates that he’s gonna pick john bolton as his national security adviser,i am not gonna vote this time!

And unless McCain appoints Hunter for his defense sec, I will not vote....

Unless Mccain appoints a real conservative for vp, I'll, no wait, scratch that.

Unless mccain stands at the border and personally shoots all invaders , I will not vote...

Unless mccain appoints my daughter as recess yard monitor, I will not vote...

Mccain should appoint you for MFWIC before he gets your precious vote.

I heartily agree with this post. It is not in our best interests to trash Hillary (until after the election of course). I “speak proudly” have having given up my Republican Party membership (Operation Chaos) and registered Democrat for Hillary and a change from Bush. Then Obama and her own party trashes her to no end but I admire how she fought back and won the important states but her own party still ignores her when she basically tied Obama in the end and is the real candidate with experience. The PUMA types love to hear it, I say how great it is that Sarah Palin has emerged and now McCain has all my support and welcome the PUMA crossovers to the party.

But come Nov. 5th, Hillary becomes target #1 all over again...

North Slope Oil workers like Todd Palin are fully employed. their schedule is similar to Gulf of Mexico Rigs, and, I presume, North Sea Rigs. First one has to get to the drilling site. In the ocean this is done by helicopter. For Alaska, the workers get in a plane and fly almost 1,000 miles to the worksite. Once there, they work twelve hour days, seven days a week, or 84 hours a week. A typical schedule is two weeks on, and two weeks off home. So one could have time for snowmachine racing, fishing, or staying home with the kids.

From what I read, Todd took a six month leave of absence after Sarah was elected Governor, then returned to the job

You are right. It began with GHWB. Which proves it has absolutely nothing to do with Hillary. I don’t have a name for it but its beginning coincided with the fall of the Soviet Union.

When the Soviet Union fell, two important things happened in the West, both of them very bad:

1. Good people everywhere were lulled into thinking that there were no more major foreign-policy challenges to Western Democracy.

2. Leftists throughout the western world enlisted en-masse in the “environmental” movement, realizing instinctively that the fight against capitalism and individual liberty had taken on a new form.

The era of False Peace and Global Warming was thus born, bringing us Bin Laden and Al Gore. Hillary has been nothing but a bit player in all that.

To say that 1988-2008 is the Hillary Era is like saying that 1928-1948 was the Norman Thomas Era.

Just because a 2-bit socialist lives in a particular time, and lusts after power during that time, doesn’t make that time their Era.

Hard to see how any person reading FR could be so uninformed

Bingo. Maybe he should start by turning off the TV.

Ask yourself this question: What are the foreign policy and national security implications for the governor of a state bordering both Russia and Canada?

To help you out, here is a map...

That narrow body of water called the Bering Strait is about 53 miles wide at its narrowest point. Theories abound that thousands of years ago, there was a land bridge between the two large land masses, allowing passage between what is now known as Siberia and Alaska.

Here is another view:

Geography, History and Civics lesson has ended. Class dismissed.

i am hardly uninformed. okay i am worried abt. her lack of experience...maybe a bit too worried but in these times i would rather err on the side of caution. okay there have been many inexperienced Presidents and VPs who went on to become Presidents. So turmed out to be good leaders others didn’t.maybe she would turn out just fine....but then again it’s quite possible she won’t.I am not so sure we should take that chance! Not during these times.

There you go again, with the "lack of experience" talking point. I'm seriously beginning to think that you're an agent provocateur for the left.

Numerous people on this forum have suggested to you that you simply read up on Gov. Palin's background, record of accomplishments, and her resume, but you obviously refuse to. Just like any liberal.

I don't think you're "worried" about the Governor's experience at all. Matter of fact, I think you're afraid of it. Just like any liberal.

I say you're a stealth Obama supporter. Prove to me that you're not.

So your alternative is electing Obama? She has executive experience, he has none.
