Why rednecks may rule the world
BBC Radio4 - Today ^ | September 6th, 2008 | By Joe Bageant

Posted on 09/09/2008 12:37:22 PM PDT by KarenMarie

During this US election cycle we are hearing a lot from the pundits and candidates about "heartland voters," and "white working class voters."

What they are talking about are rednecks. But in their political correctness, media types cannot bring themselves to utter the word "redneck." So I'll say it for them: redneck-redneck-redneck-redneck.

So I'll say it for them: redneck-redneck-redneck-redneck.

How infantile. Right up there with Pee Wee Herman and his whole "I know you are, but what am I?" thing.

The BBC should tell me who a “redneck” is and not use such a pejorative in a headline.

“Why rednecks may rule the world..”

Certainly better than narcisstic, cowardly, hateful British queers like Joe Bageant....

I’m no redneck. I live in the South. I have been called a redneck by someone from Illinois. I figured he hadn’t gotten out much.

I've also noticed that in most of Europe, when they use the term “cowboy,” they mean for it to have a negative connotation. That one always strikes me funny.

But the author is a self-proclaimed redneck, so that’s alright then...

I think highly of rednecks... why be ashamed of it? Freeper girls are Gretchen Wilson women - they do shop at Wal-Mart. What's wrong with that? They may not have gone to Ivy League schools but neither did Sarah Palin. Working class roots are acceptable to celebrate in our country. If they call downscale folks "rednecks" they're the ones with the problem, not the people who actually make the country run and give it its spirit!

This is a great place to quote Mark Steyn's editorial from after Bush's victory in the 2004 election.
The big question after Tuesday was: will it just be more of the same in George W Bush's second term, or will there be a change of tone? And apparently it's the latter. The great European thinkers have decided that instead of doing another four years of lame Bush-is-a-moron cracks they're going to do four years of lame Americans-are-morons cracks. Inaugurating the new second-term outreach was Brian Reade in the Daily Mirror, who attributed the President's victory to: "The self-righteous, gun-totin', military-lovin', sister-marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', foreigner-despisin', non-passport-ownin' rednecks, who believe God gave America the biggest dick in the world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make their land 'free and strong'."

Well, that's certainly why I supported Bush, but I'm not sure it entirely accounts for the other 59,459,765.

I thought it was fine. Not as funny as the “You know you’re a redneck if...” jokes, maybe.

I once brought some Marines from southern states with me into upper New York state, which they found, to their amusement, to be very much like home except for the accent.

That is deeply offensive to all real Americans. The truth is, though, that is how the left (including 0bama) really view middle class America.

Go ahead and spread this.

When you realize that the Unabomber, Timothy Leary, and the Talbian’s propaganda minister are affiliated with Ivy League schools, you realize they are overrated, undertaxed, and monumentally evil.

Here’s the point-by-point definition in the article:

* Belief that no law is above God’s law, not even the US Constitution.

* Hyper patriotism. A fighting defence of native land, home and heart, even when it is not actually threatened: ie, Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Haiti and dozens more with righteous operations titles such as Enduring Freedom, Restore Hope, and Just Cause.

* A love of guns and tremendous respect for the warrior ideal. Along with this comes a strong sense of fealty and loyalty. Fealty to wartime leaders, whether it be FDR or George Bush.

* Self effacement, humility. We are usually the butt of our own jokes, in an effort not to appear aloof among one another.

* Belief that most things outside our own community and nation are inferior and threatening, that the world is jealous of the American lifestyle.

* Personal pride in equality. No man, however rich or powerful, is better than me.

* Perseverance and belief in hard work. If a man or a family is poor, it is because they did not work hard enough. God rewards those who work hard enough. So does the American system.

* The only free country in the world is the United States, and the only reason we ever go to war is to protect that freedom.

I love how a hard core socialist thinks he can write about the plight and stance of the American Midwest…I see nothing more than a smug nasty minded leftist trying to masquerade as a common man. The article is written in a manner that suggests that the people he claims to represent won’t pick up on his obvious disdain for them.

Boy the Brits sure have their noses why up America's business!

Don't they have some new Sharia Court ruling to report on or some new fatwa to promote?
