WASHINGTON - The National Rifle Association is spending more than $10 million to keep Barack Obama from occupying the White House.
The formidable gun-rights group is waging a full-court press against the Illinois senator and Democratic nominee for president, claiming that Obama would be the "most anti-gun president in American history."
Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, the political and lobbying arm of the group, said Obama's talk of supporting the Second Amendment does not match his record.
"It's shameless at best for a candidate like Barack Obama, who has a lifetime of support for a radical gun-control agenda, to somehow think that gun owners are so foolish in this country that we're going to forget," he said.
The NRA objects to several votes Obama has made in his political career, including one he made as a state lawmaker in Illinois against creating a loophole for persons violating gun-registration laws if they used the firearm for self-defense. The vote came after a man shot a burglar in his home in a town where handguns were banned.
Cox also mentioned an Obama vote in the U.S. Senate against a bill that protected gun manufacturers from lawsuits.
In television ads, shown in Florida, Ohio and other contested states, the NRA claims that Obama would deny families the right to defend themselves with a firearm against criminals. The group also pounces on Obama's comment earlier this year that "bitter" voters "cling" to guns and religion.
The NRA created an anti-Obama Web site -- GunBanObama.com -- and sells yard signs that read, "I'm a bitter gun owner and I vote."
The Obama campaign said the NRA is spreading falsehoods about him, including that he would impose new, high taxes on guns and ammunition, which is untrue...

Great title except anti-gun didn't need half@ss quotation marks.
What's the proper name for those quotation marks within quotation marks?
Just in case:
1. AR lowers.
2. Magazines of all kinds.
Doesn’t $10 million seem kind of low for the NRA to be spending on ads as compared to 2000 and 2004?
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Apostrophes.
Spend the money in PA!!!!!!!!!
Please!
I am not sure the dems will go after the guns as in gun banning and confiscation because of the 2nd amendment but I have no doubt they will try ban ammo!
Can’t see why groups with so much to lose like NRA wouldn’t put every dime they’ve got into this one...
And MI and VA and OH.
In television ads, shown in Florida, Ohio and other contested states, the NRA claims that Obama would deny families the right to defend themselves with a firearm against criminals. The group also pounces on Obama's comment earlier this year that "bitter" voters "cling" to guns and religion.
Has anyone actually seen these ads?
Yes, everything our side is doing seems a bit low compared to those years.
They will go after every freedom we have, guns especially!!
They've got an ad on their site that says "Hillary was right: You can't trust Obama with your GUNS! and it links to a PDF file with articles!
No, it's single quotation marks according to this link.
They look alike. Apostrophe is the last topic explained there.
“No amount of false attacks from the NRA will change the fact that Sen. Obama firmly believes that the Second Amendment protects the individual right to bear arms and that he will respect the tradition of gun ownership,” said Ben LaBolt, a campaign spokesman.
What is so startlingly amazing about the electorate is that, forgetting all the blank spots in O’s life, he was an extremely liberal candidate during the primaries. He goes into the general with a different, sometimes opposite narrative.
And the boneheads just now tuning in believe him. He has, in effect, lied about every single one of his stances.
He will do whatever is politically expedient once elected. He will shut down dissent in the courts, his own version of the Sedition Act.
One is tempted to say, Americans deserve this liar. But I’m one of those Americans and I can’t make my mouth say the words.
I have faith. Something about the guy is creepy. The lapses in the facade that led him to say spread the wealth around. That led him to ridicule the Joe Thee Plumber. That led him to say he was only eight when Ayers was bombing.
People know these things in their hearts. They can’t pull the lever for the guy. They just won’t be able to.
Roger that!
The NRA are smart folks and very good people. They are the best advocacy group in the U.S. and the best friend of ALL American citizens in protetcing your rights.
They have around 4 million members who pay attention and vote. They target their base better than anytone. They also mail to ex members which could be another 3 million people.
The NRA is fearless. They back down to no one. Obama will attack other 527s but the NRA will never back down to him.
Every Repub they have backed for Pres since 1980 has won. The ones they did not back Bush 1 (second time) and Dole - lost because both supported the Brady Bill.
Candidates they back win. They will be instrumental in hopfully turning PA, locking down OH, FL, MO, WV, NC and CO plus others.
I have seen web ads and direct mail pieces. My membership has lapsed but I have gotten direct mail. I will be renewing. The NRA is awesome.
I just renewed. I have to put my money where it will represent my views, before the “o” redistributes it to his leftist causes...
