Big voter turnout early this morning in West Michigan. Voters began lining up at 6:00am with long lines forming quickly.
I drove by several voting precincts this morning and the parking lots are absolutely packed! West Michigan typically votes republican, but turnout will be a huge factor for Michigan--if only the unions did not reward their members with the day off to go and vote for the dem?
Happy voting to everyone!
thank you, this was so nice to see. Now I know where to pray for.
Let us all know what goes best with wolverine football for dinner?
My wife is a teacher and she always votes conservative. This election many others she works with will not vote for the zer0. I’m hoping the teachers and many other union members follow suit.
yes, here in the peoples democratik republik of michiganstan, we have a wonderful canadian socialist feminazi governor
“And since when do unions have any authority to give members a day off from their employers???”
Two years ago the union negotiated for all State of Michigan employees to have Election day off as a state holiday. This year the teacher’s union in Lansing, Michigan have got it and there is no school for kids because of election day. So what they mean is the unions has fought hard for election day to be a paid holiday and it is spreading pretty fast in Michigan. People can still vote anyway they like, unless the unions ask that voting be public rather than by secret balllot. You know it’s intimidation if one votes in secret and doesn’t have the support of their union to help them.
I live in Oakland County (between Detroit and Flint) and there are many, many McCain signs. It’s only anecdotal, but I think there are many more than there were for Bush in 00 or 04.
Also, my sister and bro-in-law are Catholics and have been actively distributing flyers during Mass at their local parish. This apparently has been a huge Catholic effort statewide.
Prop 2 is motivating many pro-lifers to get out and vote against it.
My hunch is that McCain will barely lose MI, but it will be much closer than the polls say.
Then again, if the above reports of high turnout in the west are accurate, than this could be a real shocker!
Remember, Bush only lost to Kerry by 160,000 votes. And I doubt he did well with the Catholic vote.
Keep prayin’...and GOTV!!
Me, too (Niles). The southern part of the county turned blue a few years ago. BTW, is Upton in trouble? Last weekend my dad talked to a guy at church who used to work for Upton in Washington. The guy said the election this year is actually going to be close. I never really liked RINO Freddie that much (I campaigned for Dale Sugars a few years back, a real conservative), but it would be a shame to lose the district.
Overall, the district is still very republican as a whole. St Joseph area is very Republican. The areas around New Buffalo and to the north, however, have been flooded by Chicagoans who like the shore towns. They bring their crap lefty politics with them. Also, a lot of homosexual communities over by the lake, too.
I hope this means that conservatives are coming out in droves. The worst case is if it's a bunch of ignorant kids coming out in droves.
My wife just called. Long line in Ada.
Detroit chooses the Governor and President for Michigan and goes unbelievably Democrat, but West Michigan and the rural areas of Michigan make it close. I still think a Republican could win Michigan if they received enough cross over votes outside of Detroit from PUMAS.
you'd increase your state IQ by 30 points, reduce crime 80%, increase standard of living, lower taxes and generally be better off than you've been for 50 years.
Maybe conservatives in Michigan are voting because of Prop 1 and Prop 2 implications?
Ditto, big turnouts at opening in this conservative region.
“Well, we can hope. At least at age 18 she is up and doing something constructive. That is why we need people just like you to remind them of the importance of what they are doing. Congrats!”
A coworker who swoons at Obama actually said her 18 year old daughter is driving home from college in New York to vote for Obama in Michigan. That seems like such a waste of gas, but they believe this will be historic that the United States will be ruled by a Kenyan.
Unbelievable!
There might not be any left. U of M has been doing a wonderful job of eating the ball all season. Go STATE!
I voted this Saturday and waited 4 hours. There was a young kid who explained he was doing "community service" hours and telling everyone to vote Democrat while handing out Dem flyers. I heard him say he has a record and can't vote. Many prayers!
“Maybe conservatives in Michigan are voting because of Prop 1 and Prop 2 implications?”
This certainly helps. Wasn’t it a help in Ohio that they put a pro-gay proposition on the ballot in a presidential election year. There is also an anti-tax movement in Michigan. All kind of propositions are asking to increase property taxes for things like environment, libraries, and public transportation. Some people believe rightfull so that Obama will raise their taxes.
Also, I'm noticing FR has turned really slow.
Voted in SE Pennsylvania. Hundreds of people in line before polls opened. I noted a school teacher with Obama button trying to pass out Democrat sample ballots. I have known her for years and she is a nice person. She is also a long time member of the local Catholic church. I asked her in front of everyone how she could vote and work for an infanticde candidate. She just smiled. I told her that I was extremely sorry she could not vote for the unborn. I had people turn and congratulate me on speaking up. I could not believe this long time teacher and Catholic would work for Obama. Bummer
