Obama on gun control
change.gov ^ | nov 07 2008 | barak obama

"Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets. "

Obama on ‘gun control’:

We’re in control, we’re taking your gun.

It'll be interesting to see which version of the Assault Weapons Ban, that the Obomites will push. I predict at minimum the version in HR 1022, which is very similar to the California ban, but "improved" even from that. It's main differences from the '94-'04 version are that it will only take ONE "evil feature", pistol grip, bayonet lug, barrel shroud, etc., to cause a militia weapon to be banned. Plus the definitions "pistol grip" and "barrel shroud" have been changed so that virtually every semi-automatic center fire rifle capable of accepting a removable magazine, in addition to the more comprehensive "banned by name and copies thereof" list.

Semi-auto handguns would also only need one evil feature (magazine outside the grip, barrel shroud, threaded barrel, second grip), as would semi-auto shotguns. (folding stock, pistol grip, fixed mag>5 rounds, & detachable magazine.

From the bill.

Barrel Shroud- The term `barrel shroud' means a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel of a firearm so that the shroud protects the user of the firearm from heat generated by the barrel, but does not include a slide that encloses the barrel, and does not include an extension of the stock along the bottom of the barrel which does not encircle or substantially encircle the barrel.

Pistol Grip- The term `pistol grip' means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip.

If I was them, I'd add pump shotguns, but not at first, since that would result in banning the most popular hunting shotguns, as it is the bill would ban the semi-autos popular with many trap and skeet shooters, as well as many bird hunters (Pistol grip).

Other features would require a background check for transfer of an existing "AW", even by private individual to individual sale or gift, such transfers would need to go through dealers or the state. (Which means a record of the transfer) It would also ban transfer of "large capacity ammunition feeding devices, alone or with an AW.

I figure 2 of my 3 center fire rifles could not be transferred, nor could new magazines be purchased for them. (The newest one of those two was built from parts of a weapon likely built in the 1950s or maybe early '60s. The other was built during WW-II. Only my fixed magazine SKS is not covered. Since both shotguns are pumps, they too are not covered, and I'm not yet sure, but I don't think my center fire handguns are covered either, since a "slide" would be exempted from the definition of "barrel shroud", for now anyway.

But of course they could add the pump shotguns and either add the SKS by name or change the definition to include a fixed magazine of >9 rounds capacity (standard SKS magazine holds 10 rounds, but replacements are available for 20 or even 30 rounds. The magazine actually is detachable, but you have to push out a pin and replace the whole thing, empty! Although I'd expect that perhaps Attorney General Gorelick might define the SKS to be capable of accepting a detachable magazine, since there are magazines that require no modification, other than removing the original magazine and replacing the pin that holds it. Now how well those work, both from a feeding and staying in the weapon point of view, I don't know, but it wouldn't matter, would it? She might even decide that the cover on the gas tube constituted a "barrel shroud", and thus even the lowly SKS would have two evil features (pistol grip and barrel shroud)

All that are available. I just checked on Gallery of Guns, and all 33 variants of the Bushmaster AR-15 type carbines, in .223/5.56 were "out of stock".

I'll be checking at the Saxet show in Austin on Saturday for other brands.

***”They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets. “***

And how will they pass such an unpopular law? the same way they forced that travesty the 1968 Gun control law and the 1993 assault weapons ban on us. The ban will be a part of a “ crime control” package in which the states will get millions of dollars for more “law enforcement”. John Dingel and Ben Nighthorse Campbell, NRA members both voted for the last one. Get ready for it. $$$$$$

“give police officers across the nation the tools they need”

Like they don’t have ‘em now?
Almost very little small-town police department in this country is equipped with S.W.A.T. team weaponry, and a lot of podunk towns actualy have their own taxpayer-funded SWAT teams. The big cities have small, well-equipped police departments with all the latest technology and weaponry. They don’t need any more “tools.” Crime would plummet overnight if every law-abiding citizen was armed, and judges put criminals behind bars. It’s that simple really.

It'll be interesting to see which version of the Assault Weapons Ban, that the Obomites will push. I predict at minimum the version in HR 1022,

The 1022 version is the nightmare version. Basically brings every single 'assault weapon' (sic) into NFA regulations if I'm not mistaken.

This part makes every one a criminal if they so much as sell it.

SEC. 7. STRENGTHENING THE BAN ON THE POSSESSION OR TRANSFER OF A LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICE.
(a) Ban on Transfer of Semiautomatic Assault Weapon With Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device-

(1) IN GENERAL- Section 922 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after subsection (y) the following:
`(z) It shall be unlawful for any person to transfer any assault weapon with a large capacity ammunition feeding device.'.

(2) PENALTIES- Section 924(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following:
`(8) Whoever knowingly violates section 922(z) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.'.

(b) Certification Requirement-
(1) IN GENERAL- Section 922(w) of such title, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended--
(A) in paragraph (3)--
(i) by adding `or' at the end of subparagraph (B); and
(ii) by striking subparagraph (C) and redesignating subparagraph (D) as subparagraph (C); and
(B) by striking paragraph (4) and inserting the following:
`(4) It shall be unlawful for a licensed manufacturer, licensed importer, or licensed dealer who transfers a large capacity ammunition feeding device that was manufactured on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection, to fail to certify to the Attorney General before the end of the 60-day period that begins with the date of the transfer, in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Attorney General, that the device was manufactured on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection.'.
(2) PENALTIES- Section 924(a) of such title, as amended by subsection (a)(2) of this section, is amended by adding at the end the following:
`(9) Whoever knowingly violates section 922(w)(4) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.'.

And the “pro-gun” democrats in the house propped up by the NRA aren’t gonna stop him, only a GOP Speaker can do that.

Wholesalers are now limiting AR types to 2 a month for the shop I work at.

Bushmaster and DPMS are calling striped lowers Out of Stock, parts are drying up rapidlly.

Saturday before the election there were 15 AR/AK/AW types on the shelves. Tuesday afternoon, the day AFTER the election, there were two left when I went by to pick up an M1A mag.
