ENOUGH WITH THE WOE IS ME THREADS
self | 11/13/08 | LS

If I see one more "we are doomed" or "we'll never again win an election" thread I'm gonna puke!

ANY reader of American history knows that going back to the 1600s, EVERY generation has faced (yes) a similar challenge, every generation has thought it faced the "end of the colony/state/country.

*John Adams and the Federalists were certain that Thomas Jefferson would destroy the country he helped build, and forge an alliance with that "terrorist" country France.

*Both Thomas Jefferson and Martin Van Buren said that the Missouri Compromise (that would be 1820, for those of you from Rio Linda) was "the death knell of the Union."

*All "men of standing" were certain that Andrew Jackson would destroy the nation---and thought he proved it when he allowed mobs into the White House to guzzle the wine stock while he high-tailed it out back to a nearby bar. Even Davy Crockett---hardly an effete snob---thought Jackson was going to destroy the country.

*EVERY major Republican except Lincoln thought they had permanently destroyed the Democrat Party by 1864. In fact, they had put into place such astonishing obstacles to the Dems EVER getting power that they were stunned when the Dems not only won congressional seats, but had to be swindled out of an election in 1876!

*The only way a Democrat even won the White House for 100 years was to either a) pretend to be a Republican (Cleveland---DINO); or to get the Republicans to fracture into two parties (Wilson in 1912).

*FDR put every obstacle to Republican elections in place from 1932-1944, and STILL couldn't prevent a Republican from being elected president in 1952, and it took a terrible TV debate and some fraud to keep Nixon out in 1960. It wouldn't have taken much, with a President Nixon in 1960, for Republicans to have held power throughout the 1970s.

Lenin took power in Russia with a mere 20,000 committed communists---smaller than my little Ohio township---in a nation of 160 MILLION. Commitment, determination, and above all, having an idea to fight for is the key to victory.

I'm going to end with a Bible story: Gideon was leading the Israelites against an enemy. He had an army of 30,000 and God said, "Too many! Your soldiers aren't all committed. Some are faint hearted, some are grumblers." God gave Gideon a test to eliminate 27,000 men from the ranks. With just 3,000, Gideon got ready to fight and God said, "Too many. There are still too many complainers, nay-sayers, men weak of faith." He gave Gideon another test, leaving Gideon with only 300. Then God said, "You are ready now to go and WIN." And he did.

If you are all through with your little hissy fits and "poor me/we'll never win another election" pity parties, I'm ready to join 299 of you to GO WIN.

-- I'm going to end with a Bible story: Gideon was leading the Israelites against an enemy. --

Good story, but thinning the ranks appears to represent an antithesis to what a political party needs to do in order to prevail. Those 300 determined warriors of Gideon would need to infect 29,700 of their compatriots with a measure of conviction, if the group was to outnumber its opposition.

OTOH, if you are referring to violent revolution with use of force, then the conviction, cunning, knowledge and ability qualities do have great advantage over raw numbers.

I'm kind of getting tired of hearing this. Unless you are a fortune teller you can't know this. I'm not trying to pick on you or your opinion, I'm just getting tired of people saying things with no proof.

Just because he changes the policy/law does not mean that women are going to flock to abortion clinics! I'm not defending OB or his Administration, I'm saying that you have to trust the woman not to take advantage of the policy/law. And, let's not forget that no matter what policy/law they pass, if we educate (whomever) the policy/law can't control or hurt us.

And, let's not forget one historical fact - Babies don't die from a policy/law, they die by a choice. They've been dying regardless of the policy/law.

So that was obviously after he went on TV in 1929 to console America over the market crash. ;-)

Excellent. Thank you. I’m just as concerned as anyone else, but some of the hand-wringing on this site is embarrassing. If it’s just policy differences, we can easily weather that—we did with Clinton for 8 years. If it comes to a shooting war, make sure you’re armed. Constantly ranting “Woe is us!” ain’t gonna solve a damned thing.

Many are in total denial even here. The country did not end under Jimmy Carter, or Clinton and there will be a United States even under hussein.

But, the thing that few acknowledge, is that even under Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Bush - even when we had control of Congress - the United States has never rolled back liberalism/socialism. The best we have ever done is slow the amount of change to socialism away from Liberty ad capitalism.

My point is not that the country will end in four years. My point is that even with a Palin win in 2012 and even if we take back control of Congress in 2010 or 2012, the best we can hope for, based on history and human nature, is to slow the move to full blown socialism. We have no evidence of ever repealing large portions of socialist law, and getting the judiciary to honor the constitution.

To me, the only way we can get our Liberty back is to start over. We can never get 100% of the US to do this, I wish we could get about half of the US to secede and start over, to return to the constitution, Liberty and capitalism. Staying in the US will never produce a move back to Liberty - it has never been done before and I cannot see a way for it to happen in the future. Half or more of the country will not allow it, and all of the media will not allow it. Therefore, people who love Liberty need to face reality - we need to leave, or, we need to quite complaining and talking about freedom, because slowing the move to socialism does not get the job done and that is all we have ever done in the last 100 years and all we will ever be able to do going forward.

I'm not being blase about it. My point is - what does the law have to do with whether a woman chooses to have an abortion? If the woman chooses to have one she is going to regardless of the law. If she doesn't believe in abortion then she won't have on regardless of the law. I don't see how that is being blase.

...what does the law have to do with whether a woman chooses to have an abortion?

The difficulty in obtaining one is a deterrent. Some women won't break the law. Some will want to know why the law prohibits abortion and will learn more. Maybe it's simple enough to say that a law protecting the human rights of the unborn can only serve to elevate us all.

If the woman chooses to have one she is going to regardless of the law.

So we've been told by the abortion industry. How does that law apply to other forms of murder? If a person chooses to kill their neighbor, they are going to do it regardless of the law, so why have laws against murder?

Ridiculous.

Plus, as I've said, the instructive nature of laws protecting the unborn: the point of the law is to deter the choice of murder.
