Indianapolis - One man is dead following a shooting at a grocery store on the northwest side Sunday evening.
Metro Police say an armed suspect attempted to rob the El Michoacano supermarket in the 6200 block of West 34th Street just before 9 pm. All of the customers and employees in the store were ordered to move to one side of the store.
Police say the suspect then pointed his gun at a woman and baby, leading a store employee to pull his own gun.
"At this point, the employee fired a shot at the suspect or shots, we are not sure at this point how many shots were fired, he struck the suspect," said IMPD Sgt. Matt Mount.
When police found the suspect in the store, he was in critical condition. He was transported to Wishard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His identity has not yet been released.
Detectives are talking with the employee who fired the shot and witnesses to determine what happened. Police are also investigating information about the gun, its owner and the employee who possessed it.
A release from IMPD stated that it appeared to be a justified shooting, though a thorough investigation will be conducted with evidence turned over to the prosecutor to determine if charges should be filed.
You cannot use one part of the constitution to diminish another. You either have the right to bear arms or you do not.......If you can, then there are no rights at all.........
If he saved my wife and child from being murdered I would be indebted to him forever, even if he was a mass murderer.
I know that it is standard procedure to investigate him, but the way it was worded sounded as if he were the criminal. No mention of the perp’s weapon being investigated.
‘Citizen Saves State Millions in Court and Prison Costs’
..Gets medal for putting down vicious DemoCriminal animal.
The dead punk’s relatives could sue the shooter for wrongful death, but I do not see any opportunity to sue an editor/paper that might call the punk a CRIMINAL who died IN THE ACT.
Agree. Bizarre that they would investigate him.
He is a hero.
Interesting legal philosophy.
By your reasoning then the 21st amendment cannot diminish the 18th amendment. I know it's early but I need a drink. But then according to your legal philosophy I can't have one....
You have rights but you can be deprived of them by due process of the law. Furthermore, no right is absolute. You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater and call it free speech. Human sacrifice and "honor killings" are not tolerated as religious practices.
By “use” I meant “interpret”, not the process of amending the constitution.
If you use the “To regulate commerce” clause of the constitution to ban the ownership of guns because guns are produced commercially and are shipped across state lines, then the 2nd amendment is useless............
That's what ended the idiot's life. There's certain stuff you just DON'T do.
There you go bringing up inconvenient facts, with actual references to back them up.
A lot of people on FR hate that nowadays.
The second amendment comes after the commerce clause and the fifth amendment comes after the second.
The due process clause has been used for two centuries and without it a lot of things, from the death penalty to keeping ACORN from registering convicted felons in prison to vote to barring convicted sex offenders from living near schools after their release, go out the window. States can and do enact laws restricting ownership of firearms by those convicted of felonies based upon the due process clause of the fifth amendment.
I agree that “regulating commerce” as a means of regulating the right to keep and bare arms is a red herring. I wonder though why the same interpretation of the commerce clause that makes a Texas drivers license valid in New York City doesn’t make a Texas concealed carry license valid in New York city.
Because it's already taken care of by the Fifth Amendment.
A pic of the room temperature perp and comments from local Hoosiers. I know a good immigration lawyer in town if the shooter needs a defense. He can get a temp visa, even if illegal, as long as he cooperates with the police investigation.

Did you see where it says, “well regulated?”
I’ve noticed a general decline in the last few years.
The perp had to have a green card or be a US citizen, and the shooter would have had to be a victim. He might be considered a victim, though, in this case.
The perp had the usual gang tattoos on his neck.
The gun the clerk used belongs to the store owner.
well regulated at the time of Washington and Jefferson meant “working smoothly” like a clock is “regulated”............
Might happen in Indy, but certainly not here in SW Indiana. The local boys in blue capped a murder suspect about a week ago and within 24 hours the local prosecutor was on TV saying it was a clean shoot, case closed.
A few years ago when I got my CCW, the Sheriff said, "That's exactly what we need, more armed law-abiding citizens."
How do you know that?
One less name on Santa’s “naughty” list........
