NEW YORK -- Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care.

Their state treasuries drained by the financial crisis, governors would welcome the money from Capitol Hill, where GOP lawmakers are more skeptical of Obama's spending priorities.

She isn’t going to win the media over and she needs to worry less about them and more about the people.

She is, and that is why she wants that small portion of the bill to pass, she needs it to ensure her state’s well being

SO: “Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama’s economic aid plan...” what BS!

This is not a problem caused by the Federal government. This is a problem caused by very poor management within the STATE GOVERMNENT! Cut State spending!

What a bunch of limp wristed sell outs. Instead of telling the feds that it is federal mandates killing the states and refusing to self flagellate, they go beggin’ the massas for a little more corn meal... disgusting.

All of these obvious pork projects add up to less than 11 billion dollars. They are a smoke screen. The Dems could cancel all of them and hardly put a dent into the total amount. While talk radio is discussing these specific items, the Dems will pass a huge payback to Democrat states and districts who should be dealing with their required balanced budgets. Instead they will keep spending and spending with no accountability. It is disgusting and scary.

States receive federal money every year so I guess you could say every governor has had his/her hand out every year. I guess there is no one to vote for.

Take for instance the Federal Highways in each State. Who maintains them? You have never seen a Federal work force working on them. But what you do see is State employees or Contracted repairs by the State. The Feds send highway monies for this work. Many other examples, but to down play States without some of the bloggers understand that it is the responsibility to fund Federal programs.

The only thing they will do by sending money to Massachusetts is add to the federal debt to subsidize incredibly wasteful Massachusetts state government. The Gay State will waste the money and then be back for more!

The nature of State governments is to go for federal dollars.
It is more gravity than politics.

The GOP can’t stop this steam-roller. The only thing it can do is influence what it says. Make it say that the money is going to the states, and it becomes very defensible for the GOP to vote for it because not only will the red states get their share of the $, but the red states will then be able to use the money to give tax cuts while the blue states use it to pay off the debt they’ve run up in the last 8 years.

Obama thought it was going to be a piece of cake to get this stimulus porkfest through, and that’s why he keeps talking the gloom and doom trying to scare people into this boondoggle.

I believe there is more than $11 billion of pork in that bill. There is $18.5 billion for “energy efficiency and renewable energy” alone. That could mean anything and could be interpreted as pork.

Well obviously the GOP must be swept clean of it's liberals from the local levels up to the nations Capitol. Simply meaning stop them at the ground level in politics.

Gov. Palin urges the Alaska delegation in Congress to see that Alaska is treated fairly and also urges the federal lawmakers (over whom she has no control) to follow prudent fiscal policy that will make this an effective stimulus and not an additional burden to the economy as many fear.

Don’t blame Palin. I donated to her and McLiberals campaign. I expect quid pro quo.

Sure, I would support the bill too if it allocated $190,000 to build an in ground indoor olympic size swimming pool in my backyard. To hell with the consequences or content of the other 870 billion. Why the hell do I care?

That is why government can’t allocate resources properly. Too many special interest groups and conflicting priorities and politics involved.

This is a poorly written article but then it is Fox News.

Sarah said earlier that the stimulus package was way too much and wouldn’t do what was intended.

I heard that Clyburn(?) has inserted a provision in the stimulus bill that if Sanford refuses to accept money for SC, then the state legislature can vote on whether or not to accept the money, in effect doing an end run around his objections. Anyone else hear this?

What do you expect from Fox News, Neil Cavuto is still reporting on Sarah’s 11 million dollar book deal..Earth to Neil, she doesn’t even have a publisher, and isn’t even writing a book. Fox news reports on what is written in the AP and they go with it
