Call to action: Regional FReeper Conventions: California
Feb 15, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 02/15/2009 2:52:31 PM PST by Jim Robinson

A few weeks ago, I posted a thread asking how many of you would be interested in holding a centralized FReeper meeting somewhere in the middle of the country, possibly on an airline hub so a maximum number of FReepers could attend. Lots of people sounded interested, but only if it were held closer to home and preferably within driving distance.

Ok, if one big central meeting is not feasible, I posted another thread asking about regional meetings. Sounds like a lot more people are interested in this, but everyone's asking when one will be scheduled in their area. Well, folks, please do not wait on me to schedule your FReepmeet.

I would like to explore ideas for taking our country back from the Marxists. I would like to see us rebuild our chapters and networking systems, only stronger than ever. I think we need to form groups or chapters in every congressional district in the country. In fact, right down to the county and city level. We need to form groups of people who can work together to recruit and penetrate the local political organizations at the district and state levels and right on through to national politics.

We need strength in numbers, ideas, candidates, funding and get out the vote efforts. We'll need homegrown networking in case Obama reinstates the fairness doctrine and neuters talk radio and possibly even the Internet.

I think we need to organize in every city, town or community where we can put together a group of ten or more FReepers. The local groups can work with district or regional groups and tie into state groups. We need to penetrate into Republican politics at every level. We need to ensure that the very best CONSERVATIVE candidates are nurtured, recruited, supported and elected at the city, county, state and federal levels.

We need to get to know each other personally. Local networking is the key. Meet and know your local FReeper allies. Exchange phone numbers and email addresses. Build websites and mailing lists. Penetrate into other conservative or political groups. Educate and recruit. We take it back one assembly district, one city, one county, one state at a time. No, belay that. We do it simultaneously in each and every assembly district, city, county, congressional district and state in the entire country!

There is nothing stopping us from getting started today!

If not us, who? If not now, when?

Ok, getting started. I've reviewed where our hits are coming from and not surprisingly the largest numbers come from California, Texas, Florida and New York. I think for sure we should have regional conventions in these areas, and in just about any populous area where we can get a hundred or more FReepers to meet. There's no reason we shouldn't have meetings in Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Seattle, Atlanta, New Orleans, Las Vegas, etc, just to name a few cities that were suggested on prior threads. Also, we can't forget Alaska and Hawaii! Also, in any local community where we can get ten to twenty-five FReepers to attend.

Any group in any state, region, city or community can organize and schedule a meeting. No need to wait on anyone to get started. In fact some states or regions may need more than one. For example, I can easily see regional conventions being necessary in Northern and Southern California and two or more in Texas and Florida.

I think we can submit and debate ideas on how best to accomplish our goals, how to organize, whether or not we should form a PAC or a 527, how to advance our best ideas and people, etc., whether or not a national convention would be helpful, even selecting delegates for a national convention, but for sure just to start building a network of conservatives on the ground.

With this in mind, would like to start entertaining serious proposals for possible locations and dates for Northern and Southern California. Also will need volunteers to help organize and coordinate our activities.

And hopefully, other states and regions will follow suit.

By the way, I'd like to attend as many of these events as I possibly can, so hopefully, they will not all be scheduled on the same weekend. Hoping we form many chapters and hold dozens of meetings and as many FReepers as possible attend one or more!

“How about using GoToMeeting.com or something like that. It might help with Troll control.”

<<<Might use Evite for regional meetings too. Meetings are great idea. I’m located in Socialist Republic of IL :(

“Mate, this bird wouldn’t ‘voom’ if you ran four million volts [votes] through it.”

The four biggest states (the three you mentioned, plus Texas) are all good ideas, but we have to keep in mind that a 50 state strategy has caught on in the Demwit Party, beginning with Howard Dean’s in 2006. And that was after Dean put his foot in his mouth with his “forget the South” crap.

Primarily, we need to work on fellow FReepers. We’re not going to get a walk-on-water candidate in every race (or *any* race), but we can hold the feet of our own to the fire — whereas we have ZERO influence over the socialists. In the 1990s, specifically after the Contract with America victory in 1994, a smallish number of defections took place, lifelong Demwits switched to the Pubbies.

As we all know, after the 2000 election, Pubbie control of both houses fell apart when Jeffords of VT left the GOP and became independent, turning a 50-50 tie (with VP Cheney as the Pubbie tiebreaker) into a 50-49-1 split and Demwit control of the Senate. And in 2006, Joe Lieberman lost the primary to Lamont, left the Demwits, ran as an independent, and whipped Lamont’s sorry MoveOn/DU ass right out of town. Stating that he’d caucus with the Demwits, Lieberman continued to support the WOT (practically his only conservative position on any issue), and gave a rousing speech to the 2008 Pubbie convention. I think by that time Obama cornered him on the Senate floor to bully and threaten him.

Will do.

A notice of this thread and the one that Jim posted about a Free Republic PAC have been posted on the Nevada Free Republic Board.

If people from Nevada will discuss starting a State Chapter and regional chapters there, you should be able to get something going in your state.

There are 221 people signed up here at Free Republic from the state of Nevada.

I know quite a few of them are active on FR.

Why not post something like this on your State FR Board?

Check out this thread by Jim Robinson about a Free Republic PAC

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2184284/posts

I think it is time for each state to start a state Free Republic Chapter.

And regional chapters also.

You need a meeting in the Mid-Atlantic region. If you want to do it in Pittsburgh (a lot cheaper than New York) I’m here to help.

Florida Freepers......do you know our large and populous state has three.....count 'em, THREE FR Florida Chapters?

Do you know we have our own FR state forum to post information, announcements, freeps and get-togethers?

Do you know how to access the Florida state FR forum?

Periodically I post info on our three chapters on the Florida forum. Many freepers are unaware there are Florida chapters or that there is a forum for our use. Many are aware but they don't know how to access the forum.

I'm hoping to post rudimentary chapter info on the state forum together with names of our three chapter leaders by the end of the week.

In the meantime, for instructions how to access the FR Florida state board, freepmail me at "MinuteGal".

Egrets Up!

Leni

Did you know you can fly the State Flag from your state on your Free Republic home page?

Then you can to to that page to discuss ideas and plans with others from your state.

That’s a good idea, but then, I rarely visit mine (Michigan), despite the excellent stream of posts there.

Well, I am in Southern California. Sounds like a good idea having a regional meeting.

Agree. IF you travel from San Diego to the State Cap. it is over 1,000 miles round trip. That is a non starter.

Also San Diego has a huge number of FReepers.

I think here are enough here in Riverside San Bernardino County area for a group, but we all might like to take a trip to Fresno sometime.

Well, it’s a good place to network.

There is a lot of work to do to bring our country back under the Constitution so it can function as the Constitutional Republic that it was intended to be.

I am in Los Angeles county (Sherman Oaks). San Diego is a fairly good drive. Mind you, it is better than going to Sacramento, but it is still 2 plus hours in a car.

Riverside, SB sounds easier for me than San Diego. It is hard to believe there aren’t many FReepers in Los Angeles County.

A Flordia Freeper posted a notice about this thread.

I would definitely be interested in getting more involved in the Puget Sound (Seattle, Tacoma) group. With the kids, I don’t know if I could make a (North) CA meet-up, although I would LOVE to.
