Obama’s Friday order to Catholic hospitals: Shut up, commit abortions or I’ll shut you down
The Collins Report ^ | March 2, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 03/02/2009 5:53:22 AM PST by jmaroneps37

The underhanded Obama administration has quietly moved to rescind the “conscience clause” found in agreements between the federal government and Catholic hospitals.

This “conscience clause” has always protected practitioners from being forced to commit abortions in violation of their consciences. Its removal means Catholic hospitals will be forced to choose between federal funds for committing abortions and closing down to maintain a clear conscience.

Phonies with egg on their faces

Nevertheless, phony “Catholic” judas goats like Douglas Kmiec are still beating their chests with pride at having delivered 52% of the Catholic vote to the abortion team last fall.

In January Kmiec smugly wrote “The scurrilous remarks of conservative bloggers missed the point, which was that I and millions of others who voted for Obama did so not despite our Catholic faith but because of it.”

As a proud “conservative blogger” I have to ask this vile man how voting for a monster who could allow miracle abortion surviving infants to die unattended on a cold steel table in a broom closet is Catholic faith.

Reminding us why print media is dying, two weeks ago Time’s Amy Sullivan instructed us “confused Catholics”, that FOCA does not even exist. Insisting it will not be considered, she gently explains FOCA is merely a myth imagined by our Bishops which will not be voted on in Congress so it can’t threaten the sanctity of life.

Perhaps Sullivan could discern a comforting difference between being sent to a “work camp” rather than a “concentration camp” but her logic escapes me.

The truth may be Obama doesn’t sign anything named FOCA, but whether it’s called FOCA or the Sunshine and Applesauce law, he’ll sign a law extorting Catholic hospitals into committing abortions thereby killing Catholic hospitals.

Obama’s sneaky order proves both of these phonies wrong.

Obama does not have absolute power (yet). Where are the Catholic politicians who oppose this and if they don’t, why aren’t they being excommunicated?

I think you are correct. But let’s look at this realistically. The first person to die in transport would spell doom for the Hospital anyway. The press would eat them up.

Close them. I pay for them. Close the Catholic Hospitals and let the others go into Downtown wherever and take the risk.

Doing well, all things considered. And you and Mr. 0113? (happy belated, btw)

Would not medicare/caid payments be for services rendered?
Yes, but it's still federal money.

In my twisted thinking I see the medicare/caid payments as transactions between the retiree or welfare queen. The government simply acting as a bill paying service for those enrolled in those programs. That is not accepting government funds, but payment for goods and services.

If not, then hospitals/medical care has already been socialized.

I love what that bar owner did! Where there is a will, there is a way!

He can order Catholic hospitals to perform abortions while no one can force him to produce a birth certificate. Curious.

Very!

“they excommunicated themselves”

what a cowardly way of handling it on the part of the Catholic Church’s leadership.

I guess because a physician can refuse to see a patient at his private office but a hospital is required to treat any one who shows up in the ER. If they don’t accept Medicare and Medicaide they close up.

THe catholic hospital in Baton Rouge is Our Lady of Lake. THey have no ob services. What does this mean in terms of a hospital such as this? Will they be required to have an “abortion” service?

Good question...I'm not an expert on that.

All I’ve heard about the issue is that Pres. Obama planned to roll it back to where it was a two months ago, before Pres. Bush’s on-the-way-out-the-door change.

If that’s not the case, I’d like to hear it. If it is, then I hope “Coach” offers an apology to the MSM.

Emperor Bush changed this clause less than two months ago, so I suppose the current occupant of the White House can.

No labor and delivery. Most babies come to Womans or Baton Rouge General.

All due respect to Catholic Freepers - but this seems to be one of those reap what you sole lessons for the Catholic church.

Obama got 54% of the Catholic vote. John Kerry got only 47 percent. The Catholics shifted strongly towards Obama. Why did they not see this coming? Or do they really care anymore?

That is the smartest thing I have heard.

Cut the OB/Gyn services. Problem solved!

The underhanded Obama administration has quietly moved to rescind the “conscience clause” found in agreements between the federal government and Catholic hospitals.

Mr. Madison has introduced his long expected amendments... The rights of conscience, of bearing arms, of changing the government, are declared to be inherent in the people.
- Fisher Ames, Letter to F.R. Minoe, June 12, 1789.

Conscience is the most sacred of all property.
- James Madison, National Gazette, March 29, 1792

You would thing a Constitutional scholar would know that the three branches of government are separate, but EQUAL.

The President has no authority to act above and beyond what the Congress is allowed to do unless the Constitution itself enumerates it.

---------------

In today's terms, the President just violated US CODE Title 18, Section 242....Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.

That means NO Medicare, and NO medicaid, NO resident teaching money. That will close the doors of any hospital. But it’s an empty theat by the Feds because if the Catholic hospitals called the bluff, and actually shut their doors for a few days, the message would be felt loud and clear by a huge number of “Obots” who will be screaming for their free health care to return.

If I were a Catholic hospital administrator I'd do two things ~ (1) Not respond to inquiries regarding abortions, and (2) Make arrangements with trusted people to insure that no pro-abortion Democrat Catholic politician who ever checked in never checked out.

There are ways Guido, there are ways!

Then it is time to call the bluff. Let Obama have the blood on his hands caused by the closing of all of these hospitals.
