Pro-Abortion Journalist Chris Matthews To Speak At St. Joseph's

School Chooses Chris Matthews To Give Commencement Address By Chris Freind, The Bulletin Friday, April 03, 2009 Ignoring the controversy surrounding Notre Dame’s honoring of pro-abortion Barack Obama as its commencement speaker, Saint Joseph’s University has followed suit. It will grant an honorary degree to broadcast journalist Chris Matthews at the university’s 2009 commencement ceremonies.

Despite Mr. Matthew’s Catholic education, having graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, he is widely regarded as a strong supporter of abortion rights, and was unabashed in his admiration of Mr. Obama’s positions.

Support for abortion is antithetical to the Church’s teachings.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops opposes the practice of hosting speakers who are outspoken against Catholic doctrine.

“The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles,” said the bishop’s conference in a statement. “They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

Calls to Saint Joseph’s President Fr. Timothy Lannon went unreturned.

Where are the catholic supporters of these universities? Stand up now and be counted or go down with the culture of death.

This applies to St. Joseph’s as well.

Notre Dame’s invitation to Obama: The beginning of an American Catholic Church schism?
March 31, 2009,
By Kevin “Coach” Collins

http://collinsreport.net

As children in Catholic grade schools we were taught the word “schism.”

Schisms were explained as splits in the Catholic Church which were sad but necessary evolutions occurring because not all Catholics could be expected to remain loyal to Roman Catholic doctrine.

The major schism in Church history occurred about 1050 AD, and brought about the Eastern Orthodox Churches.

When Luther and Henry brought about their schisms the Catholic Church was disappointed, but survived and moved on.

Given the steady decline in the number of “Catholic” Catholic colleges in America and the growing hostility toward Catholic doctrine at so many “Catholic” schools the stage may be set for an American schism.

The original aims and purpose of a Catholic education have been so subverted at so many schools claiming to be Catholic, it’s hard to find at Catholic Catholic college.

This fact begs the question: Why should Catholics support schools whose focus is teaching Catholic doctrine is arcane backwards and even evil?

Simply put: We shouldn’t.

Notre Dame’s invitation to Barack Obama, the most pro death president in history, suggests a de facto schism may already be underway and this could be a good thing.

If “Catholic” schools like Notre Dame don’t want to live Catholicism let them go. Let’s have no more pretenses. Let’s have no more hand wringing alumni moaning as they write another check.

Phony “Catholic” schools are wasting Catholic donations that should instead go to supporting seminaries in countries where the Church is growing.

In our big cities Catholic grammar schools are closing every year because there are no Catholics left to support them. Why should these phony Catholic colleges be exempt from reality? They lick the boots of the secular world let the secular world support them.

If this is a schism so be it.

In more than five dozen schools calling themselves “Catholic colleges” there are active Gay and Lesbian clubs supported with institutional funds. Holding aside any judgment of homosexuals as fellow strugglers and seekers of the way to heaven, one has to ask if these same schools would willingly support a Swindlers Club or a Swingers Club. Each group would be promoting sinful conduct, but we know they never would allow these clubs on campus let alone support them.

As just another Catholic sitting in a pew, I’m sick of these phonies quislings attacking my Church. There is no rule saying the Catholic Church has to maintain schools. The Church wasn’t founded to insure the CYO and Bingo people have a place to meet or “liberation theology” has a home.

In a series of pacts with eventual destruction probably hundreds of millions of our dollars are going to support Catholic grammar schools populated by students who are not Catholics. These schools present a fraudulent picture of whether or not a local school is meeting its mission of teaching Catholic children. In some schools Muslim youngsters fill seats that would go unused if not for these shams. Lets close down more of these places and instead build centers for teaching Catholic doctrine at CCDs across the country.

There is a shortage of priests to work in parishes. Let’s abandon these un-Catholic Catholic colleges and grade schools to the secular world and reassign the priests in them to parish work and their real purpose – saving souls. Most of these men are content to work at schools because they have concluded they like being a priest but not doing the work of a Catholic priest.

In far too many cases these fraudulent “Catholic” schools have become obstacles to the only purpose of the Roman Catholic Church which is showing us the way to salvation. Anything which impedes our journey should be removed. I say: Catholic Catholic schools or no Catholic schools.

The church, just like our America, lacks proper leadership. It is the left wing nut cases that seek to lead both entities, so conservatives are no where to be seen. Until we take back the church, and the media, we will continue to see crap like this.

The Church is not lost, but remember that the Universities live in two different worlds, one of which was taken over by the far Left 40 years ago, the other of which has tenured professors.
We’re currently fighting a counter-revolution to take back the Church, but the University will be tougher.

Looks to me more like copying and exacerbating it.

So you think it’s just Roman Catholics that are lost? There are plenty of Christian leaders today that teach anything but the gospel. And as a Catholic I find Christ and it wasn’t hard to find him. And let us not forget Judas and beloved Peter who with Jesus and followed him still denied him. We the human race are so full of ourselves,we like to think we know everything. Why did Jesus come, because we need a savior every day.

To understand American Christian churches today you must understand who’s been running them for the past 20 years or so. Actually, the same thing can be said about education.

The people running these institutions are between 45 and 75 years of age. They would have been college age in the 50s and 70s—The VietNam era. America had a draft army.

Two ways, among others, one could avoid the draft was to go to seminary or become a teacher. Now many of those people are in positions of power in their respective professions. Many of these people were or became leftist ideologues.

That is how people like Chris Matthews get to speak at religious campuses. It is the reason many Catholics continue to take communion at the same time they support abortion—which is in clear contravention of Catholic doctrine. Many priests allow and encourage it.

It is also how anti-American speakers are welcome on college and university campuses at the same time pro-American speakers are shunned.

The left has coopted organized religion and education in this country. And all the time the RINO-led GOP, excepting Regan, has stood by with its collective thumb up you know where.

"Probably not, but you can be sure he will be spewing all manner of left wing nonsense and idealogy that is an insult to the Catholic faith. Most likely he’ll get a standing ovation. One of the many reasons I left the Cathoilic Church after 35 years and 16 years of Catholic schooling. I didn’t find Christ there."

Please consider your return to the Church that Christ founded. You owe that to yourself.

Meanwhile, Catholic Colleges and Universities that go against the grain and invite or reward individuals who are clearly against accepted norms and policies will see their donations plummet. They will get the message loud and clear.

I AM a member of the Church that Christ established. Just like the individual, Christ will allow institutions, like the Catholic Church, to walk away from Him. Institutions, like individuals, are given free will. The freedom to walk away also comes with consequences when you do walk away. The Catholic Church walked away has in many, many ways. We are now seeing the consequences.

[Why Spiritual suicide? I’m a Bible believing Christian.]

If you were a Bible-believing Christian, you’d be in the Church, since the Church gave you the Bible in the first place, and since the Bible says that the Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth.

The Catholic Church is older than the New Testament, and is the group that decided that it WAS the New Testament.

Still,we must watch and pray.

Another Catholic who should be excommunicated and not be allowed anywhere near a Catholic church until he repents.

The Holy Spirit gave us the Bible, not any church. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God.”

you didn’t look hard enough....Christ is within you, the Catholic Church is merely where He semt you to accept Him....go back to the church and this time, don’t expect them to shove Jesus down your throat, expect them to provide you with the ONLY true passage to Him.... He said, I will be with you from now ‘till the end of time......he wasn’t kidding....Welcome home!!!

I DON’T THINK THE rcc (Whoops caps) is lost, in fact if it is, Christ is a liar... He Himself, with the apostles, founded the Catholic Church...and He promised that He would be with her from now ‘till the end of time.....I see no point of arguement here, pretty clear to me and to everyone with the least bit of insight and intelligence. Either Jesus meant what he said ( for example THIS IS MY BODY) or He was a liar.....take your choice, I’ve made mine!!!
