TOMBALL, Texas -- Karen McAdams is a single mom who is having a tough time raising what she calls a rebellious 15-year-old daughter.

McAdams said her daughter ran away with a 47-year-old man when she was 12 years old. The man is now in prison, according to McAdams.

The Tomball mom showed us condom wrappers and drug paraphernalia she said she found in her daughter's bedroom a couple of weeks ago.

It was hidden inside her closet.

McAdams said she punished the teen with a spanking.

"And I grabbed her off the bed to whup her, and I grabbed her back to me, and then I whuped her again," McAdams said.

Sounds like she might be one of those moms who didn’t do this enough when her daughter was 6. 15 is a little late for that kind of deterrent/punishment.

She needs help, not a police record!

When it is against the law in Texas to "whup" a bad kid we are in serious trouble!

Too late. If the kid is running off with a 47-year-old man at the age of 12, she is ruined anyway. The only hope is that if she somehow finds the Lord. But I doubt she’s going to have much exposure to Him in an environment like that.

I feel sorry for everyone in this situation. Can we agree in prayer for this unfortunate family?

in NYS, a parent is allowed to physically discipline their kid.

we have kids call on their parents all the time. they say their parents beat them.

the parents show us the kids report card or whatever and we usually tell the kids that if we were their parents, we would have hit them harder. and stop calling 911!

She’s sent her daughter to government school. Doesn’t she understand that her role is to provide sleeping quarters and some meals for this child? The government school is taking care of the rest—teaching the child values, etc. The mother has no business trying to interfere with the government school’s agenda.

Not only that—this woman is obviously interfering with the proper use of the taxpayers’ money. The taxpayers provide this girl with condoms, etc., and the mother presumes to inject herself into the sacred government/child relationship. Who does she think she is?

I know, I know. She’s only the mother. You should read the comments at the site. More than 11 pages! lol Sounds like the daughter is a little liar and manipulator to boot.

Wow. That kid will have the crap beat out of her or she will straighten up quick. Curious to me why ‘the system’ not only punishes parents for basic parenting, but also allows these wild kids a chance to get old enough that they can go to jail where ‘the system’ literally takes their lives from them. Too stupid to think through.

Prevention right now might save that girls very life.

Something’s wrong here. You don’t spank a 15 year old kid. I mean think about it, at 15? Pretty weird.

That isn't always true. Some children are just more hard headed than others. We used time outs, taking away priviledges, spankings, etc. with our oldest (who is now 23).

NOTHING worked on this kid - nothing. Eventually he ended up in juvi and went to a ranch for troubled kids. He still didn't learn.

Today he has a daughter - of course he's not married to the mom - and has gone through JobCorp, had and lost many jobs, is behind on child support, has been to jail on misdemenors, blah blah blah. . .

It isn't always the parent.

Pretty weird? Not really. The mother might have been controlling herself with only spanking her. Having a child that out of control would drive many a parent a little crazy. I admire her restraint. This girl ought to be glad she wasn’t born a few decades ago.

I hear you, 30 years ago it would have been a belt.

Seriously, we are not doing our kids any favors by not showing them that screwing up causes PAIN. Real life will kick your ass far worse than a spanking. Consider it a real lightweight punishment compared to what getting addicted to drugs and pregnant then being a single mom will do to you.

I agree it’s not always the parent, but a large majority of the time it is. Many parents don’t know how to be parents and not friends. My parents never heard of “time outs” and “taking away privileges”. Instilling fear and respect is all they knew ~ and it worked.

I can't believe you have missed the obvious --- the Government WANTS total control of your kids. 0bama's "cradle to grave" policy initiative is living proof. Government wants to move the required age to send your kids off to school to well before pre-school. Wants complete control of all your medical "care", and now 0bama is pushing for "free college" for all....

That’s how my parents did it. No time outs. My parents didn’t even know what that was. All my Dad had to do is look at us.
