During a series of email and telephone exchanges Matthew Degn relayed to www.regimeofterror.com his vast array of experiences working with intelligence issues relating to the current and former situation in Iraq. Among his responsibilities during his years in Iraq Degn worked as a civilian interrogator attached to the U.S. Army in Iraq before working as a Senior Policy/Intelligence Adviser to Deputy General Kamal and other top intelligence officials with the Iraq's Ministry of Interior. Degn, currently working on a book about his experiences in Iraq (personal website here), continues to argue against those that feel there was no link between terrorism and Saddam Hussein's regime based on his involvement with hundreds of interrogations in Iraq and his involvement with many of the Iraqi Intelligence officials with the Ministry of Interior. Degn says that much of the public perception about Saddam Hussein's regime and terrorism are incorrect.

Degn is currently the Director of the Intelligence Studies Program and a professor at American Military University currently a professor at American Military University whose testimony about events in Iraq has been cited by NPR, ABC News, the Washington Post and elsewhere. According to his American Military University bio Degn (pronounced Dayne) also:

they are hard to find because there is a lot of disinfo and misinfo out there and some of it may have been put out there on purpose to muddy the waters. there are still plenty of legit reports about safehaven, training, etc. for former CIA director to say what he did in his chapter on the topic...

Looked at your blog page, Gene. Not going to divert this thread into 'about you' or me. The issues must be kept before the American people so they do not fall back into the clintonesque complacency which allowed feckless leadership to result in the death of thousands of American citizens.

As noted above, Salman Pak was more than enough reason to blow up Iraq. Some of the detainees at Gitmo were sent through training at Salman Pak, by their own bragging admission. I still believe there is something, maybe a pay slip registry, somewhere that will have more than one of the 911 murderers having passed through Salman Pak. The Jet fuselage sitting there was a strong clue.

IIRC, three of the ones shipped to Gitmo from the secret interrogation center in Poland.

I agree the article was interesting. You know the Army only translated a small percentage of the intelligence documents-although-to be fair-a lot of them were CYA paperwork, requisitions, etc.

The halawa system was covered a bit better: good way to move money without leaving a trail. I recall the Taliban used it a lot: Mullah Omar used to hand out wads of dollars or rupees from a chest he kept in his tent.

Most prominent Dummycrats took it as an article of faith that there was no connection between the Saddam regime and terror groups. Kerry and Obama ran in the last two presidential campaigns repeating this lie to support their foolish arguments against the war in Iraq.

In fact, there were ties to Iraq among the participants in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, as reported in Jayna Davis' book, The Third Terrorist. (The title is deceiving, because there were a slew of Iraqis in the plot, in which McVeigh and Nichols (who had been to Iraq with the US military) were merely a small part.)

Two words — Salman Pak.

YES! As our troops moved towards Baghdad during the preliminary first push and more details came out about Salman Pak, I kept shouting (to the walls I guess), LOOK THERE! Investigate that! Look.over.there!

And I'm sure there were some good teams looking into that very closely. If we would just ever get to the TRUTH.

There’s plenty anecdotal evidence to prove prior Iraq/AQ involvement.

1. AQ could not possibly have moved into Iraq as quickly and effectively as it had if there were not an already well known system of safe houses, contacts, money caches, etc and so on in existence. AQ could not possibly have exploited those necessary infrastructure items required to establish itself as quickly as it had unless the leadership of AQ was well briefed prior to the movement. Briefs of this nature can only be conducted face to face.

2. Ansar al Islam was, for all practical purposes, an operational branch of AQ. Same funding sources, same training system based in Afghanistan, same transport networks. Ansar al Islam was protected by the Iraqi army prior to our invasion.

Folks have already forgotten that Saddam sent bio-chem weapons trainers into Afghanistan to Taliban/AQ training sites. You don’t know where to send, when without deep prior contacts.

Too many folk tend toward slumping into the lazy daze of anything that’s not covered 24/7 ad nauseum in the msm simply doesn’t exist.

Or, are too weak, stupid and pathetic to stand up to the long march propaganda campaigns of our own domestic enemy.

You know, like sniveling punks, on their knees, wanting to please.
