Absolutely wrong. That kind of gridlock could NOT be swept under the rug and if it were, it would backfire bigtime because the blogs and the radios would force them into coughing it up...this is what happened with the Swift Boaters...the MSM tried to bury itr but couldn’t...the drumbeat got too loud...

As I've been saying here on FR for 8 months now - ALL THINGS HAVE CHANGED - NOTHING IS THE SAME - WE AREN'T SIMPLY IN "A CYCLE." Since that is the case, I am convinced we need new tactics...that are actually old tactics.
Are you sure you want my list of those tactics? They require a good deal of underground organization, and they will require men/women of strong will. In other words, it takes people willing to BE THE RESISTANCE. I fear the worst about us - that we may have lost our ability to resist.

Alternative: An assembly of the governors shall be convened to for the purpose of selecting an interim President and VP.

Oh my dear God. Tears are welling up in my eyes as I write this. NOW WE HAVE THE START OF SOMETHING! That usually quiet voice in me is yelling that this is right! God bless you Jim and keep you safe and watch over each of us as we begin earnestly to take back this country!
Actually, the millions who vote should only be voting for their representatives in the House. The senators are elected by the state legislatures. The president by the electoral college. The state legislators are of course elected by the people, but that still removes the senators from direct election. The senators represent the interests of the sovereign state governments.
And apply strict term limits to all and restrict their staff budgets to reduce the power bases. Perhaps even reduce the jobs of all legislators to part time positions. The fewer days that they serve in office the less damage they can do.
We don’t need or want all these millions of pages of legislation and regulations the churn out.
Government should be restricted. Freedom should be unlimited.
Absolutely. The Bill of Rights must be completely restored.

We keep talking about “the Government”, but actions are taken by individuals in the government. Legislation, like the health care bill, are provided by endless lobbyists or congressmen.
I think it is high time we identify these individuals.
It’s hard to run “government” out of town on a rail.
It would not be so difficult to run individuals with catastrophic ideas out on that same rail.
It is time to put a stop to the anonymity of “government”. It is time to name names. Hold those responsible to the fire. Time to know who the real enemies are. I suspect most are lobbyists who pay to play. If I am wrong, tell me how.
I love the passion, but I think secession is more practical. There are tens of millions of “Americans” who simply don’t share our values and we’d be better to separate ourselves.
As second amendment rights have been routinely placed under assault by unscrupulous, criminally inspired, anti-liberty forces, we hereby reaffirm that the absolute right of law abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Also, TERM LIMITS!!! US President—2 terms of 4 years each. US Senator—2 terms of 6 years each. US Congressman—4 terms of 2 years each. No other political office of any kind can be held for more than 8 years. NO ONE WHO HAS HELD AND POLITICAL OFFICE FOR 8 YEARS MAY RUN FOR OFFICE OF ANY KIND AGAIN. NO ONE WHO HAS HELD ELECTED POLITICAL OFFICE MAY HOLD ANY JOB WHICH INVOLVES POLITICS, POLITICAL POLICY MAKING, OR MAINTAIN ANY RELATIONSHIP WITH POLITICAL FACTIONS.

I’ll certainly go elsewhere, if that’s what you recommend.
As I said, I’m as concerned about this as you are...the problem we have is that, from research I’ve been doing and observations I’ve been making, while Free Republic is a large influence in the political internet spectrum, there are so many people who are simply struggling to find enough hours in the day to work, take care of family and eek out a tiny bit of relaxation time, that as a society, we’ve lost touch with the Founder’s Intent. It has been lost as we’ve simply gotten used to BOHICA from the government. And we come home and watch the news (increasingly LESS of it) that they decide is “worthy”.
Sometimes it strikes me how small the Constitution is. You can carry it around in your breast pocket. It’s “da bomb” as far as the nation goes. But most Americans probably don’t have a copy. They don’t understand checks and balances and how important they are. Many are too young to understand the importance of State’s Rights. You ask them where the “government” is located and they are not going to say, “the state capital in Springfield” or “City Hall”
they are going to say “Washington DC”!
So, we have our founding document, that can be carried with you and sometimes it boggles my mind wondering what size of building it would take now to hold all the laws, regulations and red tape created in the time since it was written.
As you have gathered, I live in Illinois. This is where freedom goes to die. We had a governor that was positively rotten and he’s not in jail yet. He may have sold our senator’s seat, but somehow, we’re stuck with that guy. They’ve simply TOLD US that we can’t afford an election. Still, they’re trying to come up with clever ways to tax us. If THIS isn’t taxation without representation, I don’t know what is. But you can’t fight city hall. Not even at the ballot box because there’s “not enough money”.
I think people can “feel” that something is wrong. I just finished “Dutch” and I believe we are at a time similar to the one that ushered Reagan and the Republicans into power. I also got to watch a PBS documentary on Reagan that was interesting, but sometimes the observation a person makes is not the one intended by the narrative. When Reagan made a speech or gave a press conference, the media acted like ravening wolves...positively bellowing angry questions at him.
I contrast this now with Obama’s appearances. No one’s bellowing at him or asking him to defend himself. If the Fox News reporter asks a difficult question, the blogosphere goes nuts calling that reporter disrespectful.
This is a sign of scary times. The media controls the information we get, and is NOT holding Obama to his promises. There’s no constant repetition of the speech in which he made the promise (read my lips). No one yells out to have their question answered. They are puppets and it is shameful.
And too many good people are falling for it. The right needs its own “Michael Moore”...to point out how LARGE and powerful government has gotten and to lead we the people back to the truth. With humor and simplicity.
But what we really need, and it ain’t me, is our own “Reagan”. We need someone whip smart and press savvy, with a sense of humor and speech that is skilled. We don’t need just another politician. We need that individual who can truly address what is going horribly wrong, because we FEEL it.
We need thinkers who will abandon the idea of “business as usual” and “wheeling and dealing” and who will assure us he or she will TAKE THE REIGNS...no focus group needed.
Maybe the Heritage Foundation would be helpful in producing something enlightening...or then again, maybe an entirely NEW group needs to be founded. Shoveit.org?
Happens to everybody.
Fifty to seventy million actual Americans must join in the march. All elected Washington politicians would be removed from office and escorted out of DC. They would return at their peril. This would clearly be an excuse for some throughout the nation to begin the rioting—in other words, LOOTING—which is traditional for those who have spent their lives wanting something for nothing. Looters would have to be shot on sight.
