IBD Exclusive Series: Government-Run Healthcare: A Prescription For Failure

Discourse: At a town hall last week in Dallas, an elderly "mob" with "manufactured" outrage questioned AARP's support for nationalized health care, asking: "Do you work for us or do we work for you?"

There were no swastika-wearing grannies at Tuesday's meeting, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi might claim. Nor were they "taking their cues from talk show hosts, Internet rumor-mongers . . . and insurance rackets," as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said.

But they were mad as hell at the perception that AARP was selling them out in the name of government-run medical insurance. That perception was not helped when the AARP town hall on the subject was shut down by the seniors outfit once the members dared to ask questions. The AARP representatives did not want to hear from the members at all. Just send in your dues, granny, and be quiet.

AARP denies being in league with the administration in pushing its medical insurance agenda. But as Mark Tapscott, editorial page editor for the Washington Examiner reports, that claim may be bogus despite a statement by AARP CEO Barry Rand in the July 31 issue that "AARP has not endorsed any of the bills currently being debated in Congress."

On Monday, Connie Hair of Human Events reported on a memo from Pelosi in which the speaker described the Democrats' plan to "partner" with AARP as part of a planned August recess PR blitz for government expansion of medical insurance. The fiasco in Dallas was an example of that partnership.

Better to send it back in their prepaid return envelope stuffed with what they sent and any other junk mail handy. It’ll help the USPS and cost AARP extra.

Started doing this to RNC and any other junk mailers and damn, now they don’t pester me at all.

I put everything I get from them immediately through my shredder

I tear it up into pieces, stuff it back into their postage-paid envelope, and send it back to them. If I thought I could get away with taping their envelope to a brick I would do it!!

Nobody --but nobody-- plunges the knives deeper into unsuspecting elderly than Team Obama and AARP.

hey sounds like a great idea and since AARP contributes so much money to anti firearms and anti hunting groups I might even throw in an application to a pro gun org. just to piss ‘em off a bit more....

The funny thing is, the Boston Tea Party was manufactured by Sam Adams.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the AARP coordinating with Politicians to get legislation they want illegal?

AARP tricks geezers into joining by offering nice discounts on hotels, meals and other stuff that older folk struggle to afford. They join for the discounts and support euthanasia in the process... DON’T JOIN AARP!!!

About geezer protesters:”But they were mad as hell at the perception that AARP was selling them out in the name of government-run medical insurance. That perception was not helped when the AARP town hall on the subject was shut down by the seniors outfit once the members dared to ask questions.”

Gotta love it. What a success. AARP and Obamacarebots have mobilized even geezers to get out and exercise their 1st Amendment rights. Wonderful thing to be out and help get things right.

I just pray that these poor old geezers all live long enough to take their anger to the polls in 2010 and 2012!!!

BTW...I showed this video to my 88yo grandmother and she was furious. She promptly cancelled her membership as well.

One thing that struck me was that the youngest people in the room were the AARP representatives. One would think that an Organization designed to represent old people would not have thin skinned 30 somethings come in and tell them what is good for them.

AARP is just another scam directed at taking money from gullible old people. But it seems that some old people aren't as gullible as Obama and AARP and shady roofing contractors think they are.

What I found interesting in the video was that the AARP people conducting the meeting were in their 40’s and 50’s.....not even close to retirement age. One would think that it would be run by seniors, for seniors.

The fact that they have much younger people running it shows that there is a disconnect between the AARP and its members. The proof is when these baby-boomers left the meeting when members in the audience DARED to ask questions and oppose the Hussien DeathCare.

Dont shred the business reply envelop. Put a nasty note in it and send it back to them!

Got this idea from antother thread. Realized I had a stack of two years of their magazine. AARP will be getting 91 of these today, with nasty notes included.

I’ll tel you what- these creeps had better STOP insulting hte American people, and insinuating that we’re too stupid to understand what’s goign on! I predict that if they do not stop- and when Obama either gets kicked out on his self-sanctimonious butt that he’ll go down as the worst president this country has EVER elected! But unfortuntely it’l be too late- the damage will have been inflicted on us- but hopefully, when a repub regains office, we’ll somehow be able to get this country back on track by reversing obama’s assinine, destructive policies!

The repubs shoudl be running hard with this right now- they have a godlen opportunity to show just how destructive socialist policies really are, and financially destructive obama’s polcies really are- but where’s the outrage coming from the repubs? Other than the usual conservative voices like Ann, Rush, Hannity, Beck etc, we simply are not seeing the GOP take charge in this matter other than a few tame comercials somewhat denouncing obama’s policies.

I also predict that IF the GOP continues on like htey have been, we might just lose hte next election too because hte people want a true, honest leader who isn’t afraid of the assinine policies of hte dems, who will state htings like htey really are instead of cosntantly being hush, and compromising with hte dems, and who WILL go after corruption instead of simply tunring a blind eye to it liek hte spineless GOP has been doing for far too long now!

Newt, Dole, Lindsay and other powerful voices should be soundign the alarm every waking moment they can, but so far we’re seeign NOTHING substantial come out of the GOP other than a few tsk-tsk-tsk’s- ooooh- that’ll inspire hope in the GOP base [sarcasm]
