Clunker program spent, dealers to get government cheese
The Washington Examiner ^ | August 21, 2009 | Scott Ott

News fairly unbalanced. We report. You decipher.

Uncle Sam's Cash-for-Clunkers program has already spent its allotted $3 billion, making it by government standards an instant success, and forcing Democrats look for alternative ways to compensate auto retailers for the deeply-discounted deals they've made on some 457,000 vehicles.

Many car dealers have yet to receive a nickel from the federal government after waving goodbye to dozens of customers who drove off of their lots in new cars marked down by up to $4,500.

However, President Barack Obama today told dealers not to "worry about reimbursement because if cash runs out, we have warehouses across the land stacked high with government-surplus cheese, canned hams and other tangible commodities every bit as good as cash in these tough economic times."

Some great deals are in the offing when the cars go underwater (financially, not kennedyized) and another bunch of loans are not capable of being paid...

Do these idiots ever learn...

Well I think there are many dealerships that would disagree about the success of it. Many are out thousands of dollars and reimbursement is iffy. 2 dealers were interviewed, I believe it was on FOX on Thursday and they’ve literally been left holding the bag

You left out the government cost over runs. The department of transportation probably will report spending 3 billion to give away 1.9 billion.

Boy !!! I can’t wait to go down to my local dealership (after Cash For Clunkers ends) to buy my $4500 canned ham - with a pound of surplus cheese thrown in for free.

Spreading cheese on the road is advocated by the trial lawyers’ association because it will bring them green.

Just wait until Obama's socialized Angioplasties for Clunkers program runs out of money one-third of the way through the year. Sorry, good luck surviving until the next fiscal year in October. Here, have a couple bottles of blue pills to tide you over.

1100 government wonks reviewing applications @ $30.00/hour for 10 weeks = $13,200,000

ACORN gets the balance.

I understand that since Chrysler is allied with FIAT, they get access to the Italian cheese banks.

Truly amazing. And upon what does the credit of the Vatican depend. We’re afraid to ask.
