An international team of scientists unveiled Thursday the results of 15 years of study of one of the oldest known human ancestors, Ardipithecus ramidus, which they say overturns much of what we know about human evolution.

And surprisingly, it's also rewriting the story of our relation to gorillas and chimpanzees, our closest living relatives, and their development as well.

Yohannes Haile-Selassie, one of the authors involved in the research and the man who discovered the first pieces of the most complete Ardipithecus ramidus specimen, nicknamed Ardi by the researchers, says the findings represent a complete rewrite about what is known about human and ape evolution, and give new insight into how we became bipedal.

"What we are seeing . . . is something we never expected to find in the human lineage," he says, his voice buoyant on the phone from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, where he is Curator/Head Physical Anthropology.

Who would have guessed that TToE would today be pinin’ for the fjords!

Yes, it amazes me how the creation rationalizers and their Trojan horse ID counterparts view the unfolding of the scientific method as a failure of science.

According to Haile-Selassie, even 150 years ago, Charles Darwin understood that although chimps are our closest living relatives, we cannot look to them for clues about our evolution, that there had to be a common ancestor.

Ardi isn’t that ancestor but she is the closest to finding it that we have come so far, the research shows.

Despite this, neither the faith of the Evolutionists or the Christians is shaken...

The last couple of decades...hmm, after the sexual revolution was searching for "scientific justification", wasn't it?

How con-VEN-ient. /sarc>

"...is something we never expected to find in the human lineage"

My problem is how can they really know that this specific creature is in human lineage? Evolution has become an unfalsifiable model and is the assumed methodology in almost all of these studies; the model is just modified anytime something challenges it. As long as there is some similarity between any two specimens, they must be related. It's like listening to Paul Krugman who operates on government intervention as the main model; whenever evidence goes against it, the intervention wasn't enough or applied in the right way.

Now they’re saying that gorillas and chimps branched off and developed quite a bit from a common ancestor. If so, how can they say that this newly discovered ape-like creature is our ancestor? Maybe it branched out quite a bit too.

It never ceases to amaze me, how intelligent human beings keep insisting that we evolved from non-intelligence, through a long history of developement. That presumption is not an intelligent one. Please stop insulting the intelligence of even the average thinking human being. If you are satisfied with being just a little above the apes or along side them fine, not me. I am just a little below the angels, unique in all of creation.

Evolution is most definitely falsifiable, as it would not be recognized in its current form by its earliest adherents. It is creation “science” that is not falsifiable by definition, and hence not science at all.
