Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."

The parallels between the Obamathugs and their takeover of the Free Market system and how they went about it on "V" is stunning.
I had forgotten how the Visitors and taken over the system "for our own good"...

I burned up a vacation day and took yesterday off. To my surprise and delight, the original V minisiries (1983) and the first 10 episodes of the V series that aired in 1984 were being shown on ScyFi yesterday. I wanted to watch in preparation for the KO of the new series tonight.
Once you get past the pure cheesiness of the show, the theme is very relevant today. They attacked individuality in favor of the good of the group, they promised health care breakthroughs, they attacked religeons (even at one point 3 Visitors were kicking down a nativity scene on a Christmas episode), and in one episode a “5th column” Visitor, Martin, was talking with a member of the resistance, Donovan, that their “dear leader” at home was a terribly tyrannical fascist. Donovan asked how he ever became the dear leader and Martin responded, “he made very charismatic speeches.”
I was blown away by how many parallels there were to our current situation. The amazing thing is that I’m sure that the “Visitors” were a very elemntary symbolic representative of Fascists in general.
The next few episodes of the 1985 series are playing today and I am getting them on DVR. I am very curious to see if the Series tonight follows the same general theme.

I couldn’t believe it when the “youth program leader” made the medical student bow to him and then told the medical student to clean his boots. When the student started to brush off his boot with his hand, the youth leader (Brian?) told him not to clean it that way, he is to clean it by licking his boot!

One of the older characters in the initial movie that spawed the 2 year TV series (playing a Jewish Holocaust survivor) said to several younger characters, that the Visitors reminded him of how the Germans during World War II persecuted the Jews.

Same here. I've got V:The Final Battle and the initial 4 hour mini-series that launched the TV series on my DVR already. Already watched the first 11 of the 19 TV episodes which aired yesterday. Today they're showing the remaining 8 TV episodes and V:The Final Battle later this afternoon.
The constant catfighting between the two female aliens in the original series was a delight to watch too.
I have always thought he looked like some sort of really ugly snake...so maybe he's just a 'reptilian lizard cousin.'
