Audio: “I don’t want to have to kill this man, but I’ll kill him graveyard dead”

You've got to listen to this audio. It's terrible what this woman went through - she clearly has a hard time doing what had to be done - but it's also a sign of why it's a good thing the second amendment allows Americans to defend themselves and their property. The burglar was probably stoned and "crazy." He might have done terrible things to the woman if she wouldn't have stopped him.

This was the most obvious case of "self defense" if ever there was one.

I’d call it a palate cleanser except that it’s too riveting and simply … too sad for that. Not only is this poor woman put through the wringer, it sounds like the guy breaking in was out of his gourd: They didn’t know each other, yet he was screaming threats and resorted to throwing patio furniture through the back door to get in. Reportedly, when the cops found his sister to let her know, she was so high she was nearly unconscious, so that’s the theory for his behavior at the moment. No word yet on what he was on.

I hope the NYPD would have been as supportive as the dispatcher is at the end here, but New York ain’t Oklahoma, needless to say. Exit quotation from the sheriff: “This was nothing more than a home invasion and Mrs. Jackson was defending herself.”

Listen to the audio at Hot Air.

She was calm...but my heart breaks for her at the end when she did what she had to do and is overwhelmed with remorse and praying for forgiveness...

Poor lady...I hope she can fall back on the Peace that Passeth Understanding.

I used to think that in order to make the US into a socialist country that the first thing to go would be the 2nd Amendment. However, as I see things going today I am beginning to think that they are purposely saving that for last.

Once the majority of our basic rights are stolen from us how many will be left standing willing and able to apply the 2nd Amendment for what its true purpose is? I fear that by that time there will be far too few left to save our nation.

#5 or larger pellets for home defense loads, nothing smaller.

That's if you are planning for home defense. If you are improvising with sporting equipment, it will still work. Anyone who is used to shooting birds, can hit a face from 10 or 20 feet, every time. There's a small chance that it will not be fatal, but the perp will be doing nothing else, for a very long time.

This is a target hit by several rounds from a 20 gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot. The range was about 10 yards.

That's a kill.

“As I explained to her, searching for the bad guy from room to room may look good on tv, however, I much prefer letting the bad guy make the mistake of finding me.”

Excellent point, I prefer the bathroom (with firearm and phone), lock the door, get in tub, dial 911 and WAIT. The tub offers some protection (cast iron would be great) and the locked door requires forced entry (when that happens identify your target and FIRE) .

While a shotgun is not a magic device . . . believe me I have missed plenty of clay birds and cowboy targets . . . anybody who's a decent shot at Sporting Clays or Cowboy Action will have no trouble hitting an intruder at typical indoor distances.

I would hate like heck to be the recipient even of No. 7 out of my little 20 ga. Stoeger coach gun. And after lots of practice, I can actually get 2 more shells in it tout suite. Nothing like working against the clock to get that reload drill down . . . but if I had my choice I'd haul out the 12 ga Rem 870 or the 20 ga Rem 1148 and stuff some No. 3 or 4 down it.

You know what, that’s a great example of why many Europeans don’t understand Americans and the American ‘gun culture.’ Most of us don’t understand just how big the US really is. We think it’s big, we know it is, but most have no idea how big it truly is. The idea that you live somewhere and you have to travel, say, an hour before seeing another house, or at least a small village; that’s too much for most europeans (let alone 10 hours to the nearest major city).

I’ve found that if I explain the situation to them as you just did (as well), they almost have a revelation.’

That explanation also works, by the way, when you want to explain political stuff to them and Americans’ love for small government. Tell a European “OK, what if Brussels said it wanted to create a health care system for all EU-states, whether you like your system as it currently is in the Netherlands, doesn’t matter, and you’ll have to pay for those in Bulgaria?”

The answer: “Heck no!”

Scary stuff. I live in a fairly rural area with little crime, but I still worry over my wife when I’m on business travel. I have a loaded 12 gauge on both levels of our townhouse, and told my wife to use the tools if she needed to.

That is a good idea! My son has a tiny tracfone that I pay $20 every three months and it give me 60 minutes each time and they just keep accumulating. He only uses it for in case of emergencies or when he needs me to pick him up from somewhere. One could easily duct tape this little phone to shotgun!!

The current strategy of the obamamunists is to destroy the American economy and thus pin out nation to a world economic system and a new world currency. When the collapse these bastards are orchestrating happens, the mayhem and chaos will mean having fire arms for home defense will be paramount to survival as the feral criminal element increases with scarcities.

What effect to you think was had by her knowledge that she could neutralize the threat with the twitch of a finger?

I don't care if she had a howitzer hidden behind the door. Even with a maniac screaming and breaking down a door to get to her, yes, amazing that she remained calm.

Or better yet, have it attached with velcro! Have an earphone plugged in to it, one of those kinds with the mic in the cord that is actually made for cellphones, you know? Keep the phone velcroed to gun, keep the phone plugged in nearby. After securing the situation, you could easily remove the phone and continue talking without carrying the gun around.

Total hands-free communication and security at the same time.

As I explained to her, searching for the bad guy from room to room may look good on tv, however, I much prefer letting the bad guy make the mistake of finding me.

I do hope you'll update that plan when/if you have kids.

amazing audio. A lesson on police response time and how each of us are ultimately responsible to be prepared to defend ourselves. May God grant peace to this brave lady.
