What sort of civil disobedience is acceptable?

Posted on 12/23/2009 12:52:01 PM PST by johngaltspeaks

There is a lot of talk about civil disobedience regarding this healthcare bill. Folks have said they will refuse to purchase into it, thus breaking the law.

A thought I had is, what about the 2010 census. What if we refuse to participate or under/over report our household numbers. If we refuse to obey the census law or just delay would that send a message?

Instead of paying for postage when mailing letters, just print out a tiny square with Obama’s face on it, and stick it in the upper-right corner of your envelope. See if the letter comes back to you or not.

At least you'll have fun spitting on it.

“Disobedience against tyranny is a privilege”

Disobedience against tyranny is an obligation.

I’m trying to organize a 10th amendment rally to raise awareness that states don’t have to put up with D.C. power grabs in hope that enough people will apply pressure on state reps to just reject it and do their duty to have the pile of luke warm excriment we’re being handed overturned. I probably have a snowball’s chance in the big hot place of success here in NY, but I have to do something.

I do not feel comfortable going without insurance since my hubby and I are in our 40s and we have kids under 18, so I wouldn’t drop something I have now that I really need.

Sorry to hear of that bad, intrusive expreience.

I have had better luck, but with Jehovah Witnesses.

I once got lucky and had a hard time getting rid of this cute Jehovah Witness coming by my place around 8/9PM several nights a week.

I have no idea why so late. And I didn’t realize they came by themselves. I thought they always had to come in pairs.

Anyway, I let her in and would always listen to what she had to say, but I think she eventually picked up that I just thought she was hot.

Really, I wasn’t interested in becoming a Jehovah Witness.

In hindsight, I probably should have just come out in the beginning and said that.

No. I’m serious. I am so disgusted. I feel like government has ceased to be of for and by the people. It seems to only exist for itself anymore.

I feel like I am shouting at the top of my lungs but am neither seen or heard. I need to do something to get my voice across. If tens of thousands act in a unified way of civil disobedience we will be heard.

Rand said this:

“The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. “

>>maybe that’s one of those unjust laws he was talking about!

I think it is. MLK has quite a few quotes that apply to the decline of freedom in America today but that one is best. I wonder how the Left would react if we “stole” MLK from them.

How about several thousand abandoned clunkers blocking the roads to the capital from Reagan National and they can’t get back to the Dome?
Just a thought. Maybe not so good but a thought. It would probably make the news.

Assuming the fine and jail provisions make it to the final health bill, when your 1040 form asks about your health insurance, write: “I refuse to answer on the ground I might tend to incriminate myself” [or similar language]. They’ll lose in court, you’ll send the whole process off the rails, and it won’t even be civil disobedience.

As to gun registration provisions, tied to taxes floating around, as well as anything else the nutballs are planning, I refuse to furnish information, or cooperate in any way.

See you in debtor's prison.

I hear some space will be opening up soon in Gitmo. I wouldn't mind spending some time on a nice Caribbean island.

Those jackasses can not lead a people that will not to follow.

In as many ways that I can, I refuse to become their slave. I would sooner die than to submit to these traitors.

In my view, the sooner that EVERYTHING goes to hell in a basket, the sooner the patriots of this country can begin to rebuild... if not for me, then let it be for my grandchildren.

So, in answer to your question... it depends.

It’s personal... how much does your freedom mean to you? How far are you willing to go to take your country out of this socialist abyss? What sacrifices are you willing to make to keep our country and our freedoms?

If you truly want to know how far you should go, look into the eyes of your children or grandchildren... the answer is right there.

God bless our country and damn those traitors to hell.

>>What sort of civil disobedience is acceptable?

According to the Declaration of Independence, when a government is destructive to the liberties of men it is the right of the people to alter or abolish said government.

According to the Constitution the Militia, of which most men 18-40 years in the country are (according to the standard definition in their state’s Constitution) is able to be called by the Congress to “execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.”

The Constitution is also clear 1) that NO BRANCH may pass ex post facto law OR bill of attainder; both houses and the executive branch are responsible for passing ex post facto laws & bills of attainder. (Ref retroactive taxation, taxation targeting bailout bonus recipients after the matter, the selective voiding of certain people’s legal rights [GM/Chrystler]...) AND 2) that _IT_ is the supreme law of the land, all others subordinate.

Therefore, it is abundantly clear that VIOLENT CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE is both acceptable and legal under the Constitution’s eyes. (If it were not acceptable, then as the Government is trying to [immorally] do with multi-generational debt would be utterly fine... or does the Constitution give the Government the right to make slaves of us all?)

It would not be a successful defense. The point of civil disobedience is to knowingly break a law. You are admitting everything that the prosecution needs to establish: you broke the law, and you intended to do so.

Your only hope is to create a successful PR campaign around your case, and be acquitted by a jury that has some familiarity with jury nullification.
