A GOP congresman on Sunday backed former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) who announced yesterday he will primary Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) became the first lawmaker to endorse the former radio host Hayworth's upstart bid.
In a Twitter post, Rohrabacher said:
McCain's wrong on too many big issues: #Immigration, #GlobalWarming, #Bailouts. @JDHayworth is better #AZ #tcot #Hayworth
Hayworth informed the Associated Press late Friday that he was stepping down as host of an Arizona talk radio program to run for Senate against the 2008 GOP presidential nominee.
By law, Hayworth could not remain a radio host and run for Senate.
The former congressman is challenging McCain from the right. McCain is perceived by some in the Republican Party as someone who too often bucks his party, though he has recently scored points among the GOP faithful for opposing the Democrats' healthcare reform bill plan.
Hayworth was unseated in 2006 by Democrat Harry Mitchell.
I dislike Arpaio. Arpaio is a publicity hound seeker who I feel only cares about himself.
Arpaio and Andrew Thomas together have been making a mess of gov’t in Maricopa county lately with their joint antics.
Yes, thank you, Carolyn, I am certain Janet ordered the assault on Sheriff Joe and since ‘immigration REFORM’ is the hot issue, Sheriff Joe had to be weakened. Well, good luck with that.
IIRC, in the past, Sheriff Joe has offered McCain his support, only to be shunned and I recall thinking...”wow, that tells me a lot.”
“Mavericks” no longer welcome.
Well, now i see where your coming from.
No one claiming to be conservative could endorse McCain in any way, shape or form.
How do Arizonans feel about amnesty, bailouts, global warming, free speech, reaching across the aisle, etc?
McCain and Arpaio arent exactly enemies, but they arent pals, either: The senators support of a guest worker program, as part of a package that includes stringent border protections, has long put him at odds with Arpaio....
Arpaio and JD are pretty much sympatico on the subject so his support for JD should be a good fit...
Sheriff Joe has it right and not just with illegals. I mean will all prisoners. He treats them no better (or worse) than our soldiers and troops in harm’s way. Well, aside from the pink under garments...lol.
The pink undies are funny though.. and I love how every time he raids one of the illegal dog kennels the dogs all get to go to the jail and live in airconditioning while the bad guys all get to live in tent city.
Oh, don’t get me wrong...lol.
I love the idea of the pink panties. Leaves no doubt they’re Sheriff Joe’s prisoners.
LOL. I didn’t know about the dogs getting A/C. I love hearing that !!!!
Yes, but there is a serious problem. Republican primary voters in AZ know none of this. They must be among the most dense of primary voters, but then there are the South Carolinians?
Arpaio opposed then U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon in the 2002 governor’s race. Weren’t Salmon’s views compatible with Hayworth’s?
IIRC at the time Salmon being Mormon was an issue and people in the state know the church has leaned toward being friendly to illegals and feared Salmon’s religion would stop him from being as tough as most here wanted... Joe endorsed Napolitano because — at the time she had a reputation in Arizona for pushing for more federal Border Patrol officers and she made illegal immigration and she was also making education the heart of her campaign agenda. As a former US Attorney and state Attorney General she had a reputation in Arizona for being tough against crime.... Joe wasn’t the only one for fell for her shtick..
I’m an establishment Republican. Yeah imagine I actually voted for McCain over Obama for President. When you and the moral absolutists on FR can come up with a more viable conservative party than the Republicans with candidates to vote for, ping me.
A lot of retirees in AZ who think Juan McCain is a nice man. They need to wake up.
jdhayworth - Busy schedule of radio appearances tomorrow...Stay Tuned...
Wow...wonderful news. That is something I want more of. Everyone in the GOP who disagrees with what McCain has done and the damage he has caused for years needs to step out and support J.D. Time to take down the man who would be King in the party.
Thank you Dana!
I can’t speak about all in AZ, just myself.
I think local, state and federal gov’t need to do a better job in making sure illegals are kept out and shipped back to their own country. They are a drain to services paid for like Education.
I’m against the GM bailouts.
Global warming doesn’t have enough science behind it to prove it.
As an US citizen I’m for free speech. As a female I couldn’t imagine living in an arab country where religion drives their laws.
I’m for reaching across the aisle if the cause is right.
