A group of North Alabama leaders concerned over proposed White House changes to Marshall Space Flight Center-managed rocket programs have come together to form a task force in an effort to restore funding cuts.
The "Second to None Initiative" brings together 25 community leaders, led by former Huntsville U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, to fight the Obama White House proposal that would shift NASA's focus from returning to the moon to technology development and seeding small, private space companies.
"I don't think President Obama's proposal is good, and I don't think it was well thought out. It was made without a lot of consultation," said Cramer, during a meeting at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. "We have to realize this is a proposal and only that. There will be changes."
Cramer, along with Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, promised to work with members of Congress from both political parties to restore the programs.

The nations that lead on the frontiers, dictate the course of human history.
Obama seems determined to tear down our nation wherever we excel. Human spaceflight is a showcase example of how America is deeply rooted in the pioneer and exploration culture. This nation was literally born of that. We dream big, we DO big. And we don't give up! Well liberals do. LOL
We cannot turn our back and walk away when things get hard especially when the strategic positioning of our nation is involved!
Support for Obama's nebulous and un-specific giant leap backwards is luke warm and resistance to it is clearly growing.
He wants to hijack NASA from it’s original charter and use it to pump up “credibility” for the global climate change myth.
Interesting timing of the cutback announcement following PG's party switch.
Hope and change right? The question has always been what is obama hoping for and what are we supposed to change to? Well now we know, Obama wants us to change back to the stone-age.
Obama again proves himself a liar.
Check his remarks to the space community during the campaign...

I never thought I’d see the day the Freepers were banding together to call for government spending. Can anyone tell me where taxing citizens for space research is cited in the Constitution?
Article 1, Section 8 - Postal Roads.
I want to send a letter to the moon.
NASA is a little different because it is our nation pulling resources together in ways not possible to reach for the stars and assure American and free peoples dictate the course of human history.
It’s as stategic a national effort as the US Marines.
That is why you see so many Freepers champion NASA human spaceflight and returning Americans to the moon and then beyond.
Well, we had better fund it or we will look up one day to see that the Chinese owns space and all that entails. I sure am glad you were not around when this country started space exploration. Do you know how many products we use in everyday life is due to space exploration and that includes medical products? Look it up. I did and was simply amazed.
“in ways not possible”
equals
“in ways not possible otherwise”
Agreed.
This is a deeply American thing.
Our space program is a huge part of our national identity and critical to keeping America ahead.
We cannot allow Obama to succeed in gutting the pioneer spirit of our nation. That is what is at stake.
There is no replacement for what NASA can do.
The list, ping
A lot of things aren't. Purchasing aircraft, or doing research to build better ones, for example. No mention in there that I can find of using tax dollars to purchase automobiles, trucks, or jeeps. Nothing at all about buying computers. There is nothing I can find in the Constitution that specifically authorized the conduct of research using public funds that led to the development of the electronic computer. Better give those up, too, and go back to manual bookkeeping, that's what The Framers used. Forget about tanks, submarines, battleships, aircraft carriers. Those aren't cited, either.
Point is, there are legitimate Constitutional issues out there, but this isn't one of them. Reasonable people can debate what is or isn't a good use of public funds, but making *everything* that we don't like into a Constitutional issue really isn't a terribly productive argument.
I have never read such a liberal argument posted on FR.
Force citizens to cough up their hard earned income to fund your pet project is straight up liberalism.
What ever happened to free market. If there is enough support for Space Exploration then it should be funded by those who believe it is important, not paid for by the government collecting money under duress.
I have lived here for many years and I would imagine you knew or knew about my late hubby. We have a small company here.
Baloney. Complain about acorn with its billions of dollars and nothing worthwhile to show for it. You sound like you belong in the dark ages. I know we all pay taxes for things we do not in any way, shape or form support. Did you do the research on all the benefits which came from space exploration? Do it. Just maybe you will learn something.
So I guess the government steps in where the free market is too stupid to step up.
The technology transfer benefits that have come out of NASA are too numerous to measure in terms of dollars and items. If you were to put a NASA sticker on every thing in a hospital that was developed or improved by NASA, it would cover almost everything. Same for commercial airplanes. We are a much poorer nation without the innovative thinking of the minds that are in that great agency called NASA.
If they could prove 0bama is not a US Citizen, then ALL of his pronouncements, Executive Orders, and signed Congressional Bills would not be valid.
The more people angry at 0bama’s policies, the better.
