If Obama Bans Fishing, He Hands Over 60 Million Votes To Angler Sarah Palin.

Posted on 03/11/2010 5:26:25 AM PST by U.S. Army Retired

Sarah Palin could capitalize on this potential Obama executive order tremendously since she is a bonified Salmon Commercial Fishing business owner who has seen the ups and down of the industry. She also understands that Alaska has the most excellent prestine fishing waters for recreational anglers which the fishing guides and local towns thrive off of.

Alaska's tourism officials target fishermen from all over the world who pay big fees for air travel and out of state fishing license purchases to come there in search of the big catch and experience the wilderness. If Obama signs a executive order carrying this plan out he will have lost around 60 million voters to boaters and fishermen who love their past time on the coastal waters, inland lakes, bayous, streams and bays around the United States.

As a angler, outdoorsman and conservationist who has fish mounts on the wall to prove it, outdoorsmen will definitely make the connection with her and she will have those votes caught hook line and sinker attached on her stringer if she runs for office of the Presidency against Obama. Anyone agree?

I don’t think he will do that. This is just a trial balloon. I hope. I am amazed that any of the hunting and fishing community still support him but i know several people who have not seen through his act.

The story appeared here on FR linked to ESPN outdoors. The premise for the fish grab was to “protect” oceans, coastlines and INLAND waterways. Public comment was to stop on obama’s proposal. He was following the radical greens in their proposals. That’s what got so many folks fired up. Given this admin’s pattern it seems perfectly logical that they would attempt to make fishing illegal. They may have backed down or maybe not. It may appear from another executive order down the road. Who the hell knows with this goofball. Nothing is sacred except his magical takeover of the medical industry and putting more and more Americans out of work.
Cold dead fish smelling hands.

In SF bay you can be cited and fined if you even lift a fish out of the water improperly and release. This includes flounder, sturgeon and bass.

To “remake it” as a socialist state under the control of the elite/ruling class. They can’t change it to that without first destroying it.

One other goal is to subordinate the US to some sort of global governance. A strong America would never submit to that goal, but a destroyed America would.

It would give Zero and his minions and masters, the opportunity to rebuild the US as a 'paradise' brimming with social, environmental, and economic justice run by a massive central government that regulates all aspects of one's life for one's own good and upon which one will be dependent for all the necessities of life.

why would he have to actually enact the policy to lose those votes?

Why wouldn’t he lose those votes for not wholeheartedly rejecting it as unAmerican?

I agree with you.

I will give two example. For any one who is a trout fisherman/woman can you imagine say in Pennsylvania where the first day of trout season is like a holiday. I can not for the life of me think of anything that would piss off the state of Pa. more than taken the sacred first day of trout season away. Just think this would be multiplied by all fifty states. The same can be said for the salmon run up here off lake Ontario in the Fall. These are sights to be seen. America in all its greatness.

If anybody wanted a textbook example of where “civil disobedience” could be used, here you go!

Obambi may come out and declare “thou shalt not fish” all he wants through an illegal executive order (the Constitution gives him this power where?) or through a U.N. treaty. Doesn’t matter.

The Alaska state legislature could just as quickly declare, “screw you, the boats sail as usual” and dare the feds to stop them. Will Obambi deploy the Navy to blow up Alaskan fishing boats?

Every state could declare that federal laws do not trump state law when it comes to recreational fishing. Will Marines be sent to hike up every river and break every fishing rod they find?

Or — as I suspect — is this a provocation to get the “bitter clingers” so angry that some bonehead takes a pot shot at a federal agent, thus opening the door to all kinds of federal shenanigans?

I understand. Here in Louisiana we have fishing rodeo’s along the coast from spring to the fall and it is a tourist mecca with people coming from all over the US to fish for Speckled Trout, Redfish, Tarpon, etc. It would devestate the state if Obama did this. After all, Louisiana is known as the Sportsman Paradise.

“If Obama Bans Fishing, He Hands Over 60 Million Votes To Angler Sarah Palin.”

I would hope so, but Bill Clinton sort of did the same thing without a major backlash when he closed many National Forest service roads to public vehicles. Roads that I use to drive up to hunt had locked gates installed. This not only impacted hunters, but fisherman, rock hunters, berry pickers, shooters, and others.

They'll do it incrementally. Example: Winter flounder in Nwew Jersey. Two fish at 12", season 3/23 - 5/21/10. If the goal is to destroy the small businesses that used to prosper in the fall, most of winter and early spring (boat rentals, Party (head) boats, bait shops, etc.) they are right on target.

Up until 1999 you could catch all you wanted, 10" or more; but here's the regulation from 2001:

"The Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife would like to remind recreational anglers that the minimum size limit for winter flounder in state waters has increased from 10½ to 11 inches. The increase is the last phase of a management action to incrementally raise the size limit for winter flounder from 10 to 11 inches.

"The size limit increase was done incrementally to lessen immediate impacts which may have occurred to the fishery through one large size limit increase, while allowing for a long-term increase in yield from the fishery," said Division Director Bob McDowell.

The 2001 spring season for winter flounder is open from March 1 through May 31. The fall season begins September 15 and runs through December 31. There is no recreational bag limit for winter flounder."

The real kicker is that in our local tidal river the bottom is paved with flounder, most in the 7-10" size range. With the reduced season and bag limit, there are more small fish competing for the same amount of forage, so few will ever get to 12". A boat rental, even with three people splitting the cost, is too costly if you are only able to take a total of six fish (if you get keepers, and two dozen throwbacks).
