One of the articles over the weekend said of Garn: "...wealthy business owner, who has interests in everything from banks to hotels..."????

And underage girls.

From the article: There is one ghastly sidelight to all this that merits further discussion: the standing ovation Garn received from his colleagues in the Utah House after his mea culpa. What a distasteful show. What a bad example for our children. Do we want them to learn that admission to appalling behavior -- long after it's occurred and with a payoff -- merits praise and applause? In what other venue would Garn's admission have been met with applause other than the old boy's club known as the Utah Legislature?

Exactly. Shows you what leaven does to the group around it. (Same effect Joseph Smith & B. Young & them marrying girls 14 & 15 had with Lds)

The Utah legislature is full of a dispicable old boys' club culture -- a culture where women & girls have been treated for generations as...

Which crime gets a 'pass'? Any that are 25 years or older? When will we lower that to 15 years or more or 10 etc. We are talking about a Crime not just stupid behavior.

What would I do if my 40 year old daughter told me she willingly shared a naked hottup dip with a 30 year old 25 years earlier, that the guy has apparently behaved well since, and that he had recently paid her 150k to keep quiet?

I'm not certain I could work up enough indignation to want to ruin his career.

My guess is Cheryl Maher’s parents didn’t expect her to get into that situation at that age either.

Every situation is different. One of my youngest daughter’s friends (22 years old) is known to steal money from friends purses to buy cocaine. My daughter has never touched the stuff.
