GOP fears backlash over health care stance

April 1, 2010

WASHINGTON — Top Republicans are starting to worry about their health care rallying cry “Repeal the bill.’’ It just might singe GOP candidates in November’s elections, they fear, if voters begin to see benefits from the new law.

Democrats, hoping the GOP is indeed positioning itself too far to the right for the elections, are taking note of every Republican who pledges to fight for repeal. Such a pledge might work well in conservative-dominated Republican primaries, they say, but it could backfire in the fall if more moderate voters turn out.

The commerce clause can only be stretched so far before it breaks.

Hopefully this blows that misused clause right into oblivion and it is no longer useful as a commie tool. Even better, maybe we can start overturning its previous misuse.

“Either the AP is deliberately trying to mislead, or the GOP “leaders” in question are imbeciles.”

Take your pick. I think either is valid.

Either the Republicans are retarded cowards, or this AP story is a complete fabrication.

It is some of the former and a lot of the latter. The GOP had better fear the backlash from conservatives if they don't mount a forceful and sustained effort to wipe out this Nazi Socialist Democrat abomination. FUBO

As usual, AP is on cue to try to establish a narrative that they hope will come true. It’s just SOP.

Though there are some cowards like Corker and Kirk going wobbly, the core of the House and Senate are pretty determined to run on repeal and replace.

This is a media/Democrat driven narrative. A “reform and repeal” the bill platform will HELP Republicans and will win a lot of independents.

I’ve already seen posts from people (on “other” sites I frequent) “Woo Hoo!”-ing because the poster thinks s/he’s now eligible to receive medicaid (these posters don’t understand how doctors have been turning away medicare/medicaid patients for years, never mind how they won’t be eligible if they earn over federal poverty level ) , posts from idiots who really do think they’ll get insurance for free just any day now, posts certain that any talk of “mandates”, fines, etc, is all “scare tactics” and anyone who is against obamacare is just “racist”....They won’t get any benefits from onbamacare for years, if ever, and they are likely to have their finances ruined by it-but they PERCEIVE they are going to benefit, so yeah, they are likely to react angrily if they think the “rethugluicans” are trying to take obamacare away from them. (No, I don’t think there should be aback down *because* of this -the HCRB is blatantly unconstitutional and a financial disaster-I’m just saying don’t expect gratitude from everyone by any means if God willing we get the obamanation defunded or repealed or if the USSC rules against it.)

Rush just said B.O.'s CBS poll numbers are down another 6 points to 44% approval since signing his abortion legislation with massive debt and control of our lives!!!

So it's pretty obvious that you are totally correct!!!

This is a RINO plant story.

The GOP COWARDS are looking for an excuse to lose.

it is very simple REPEAL THE OBAMA TAX period.

This is from the RNC leadership and is a trial balloon from insiders to insiders.

the RNC donations rule is also simple “DON’T FEED THE RINOS”

This bill (now law) will increase costs - and by a lot.

Absolutely. "Cost reduction" was never anything more than a fig leaf to get the start of a socialist universal healthcare system i place.

The pre-existing conditions part is not all inclusive from what I’ve read in the bill.

The insurance companies are saying it isn't. The administration is saying that it is. They're going to issue an administrative ruling that says that it will be enforced that way, and if the courts say that's overreading what's in the bill, they'll pass a simple follow during this congress to fix the problem (which they should have no trouble doing, sadly).

in other words, do my children who have already been bumped off now regain coverage under my insurance? I’m guessing my employer will have something to say about this.

Yes, they will, if they don't have coverage from somewhere else. No, your employer will not have anything to say about it; it's law. Which means that your company will have to pay more for healthcare, so better hope they don't cut your salary or benefits.

I work for a school district. I’ve already lost three days of salary, with another three days to be taken away for the 2010-2011 school year. There is also the possibility the district will try to reduce my salary by 25% (because of my position my salary is 1.25 of that of teachers). They did this with another group of specialists whose salary was 1.15 that of the teachers. Now they are being paid the exact same salary as are teachers who work fewer days and less hours per day. Benefits have already been cut, with large increases in our payroll deductions for those benefits (employees are paying more than 50% of the costs of the benefits).
