From the article: Four male students from Brigham Young University-Idaho were traveling south on Interstate 15 to attend the LDS General Conference...a man identified as Sterling Glines, 24, of Arizona, was examining his .40-caliber Glock. The vehicle had just crossed the border into Utah, and Glines reportedly was explaining how the gun wouldn't fire if the slide was pushed back when the weapon discharged a single shot. The bullet went through Glines' left hand and hit the forearm of the driver, identified as Ben Baugh, 23...

Are these folks related to the guy who discharged his pistol in a WalMart?

You have to be just about the dumbest person ever to live if you shoot yourself while cleaning your gun.

If people were to follow these NRA safety rules they would eliminate "accidents":
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

That’s how I’ve always looked at it. It’s sooooo easy to make sure the pistol is empty. It ain’t hard. Remove the magazine, check the pipe, and never pull the trigger AND NEVER POINT THE GUN AT YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE. It just isn’t that hard.

That there general conference must have been as dangerous as it was in Briggy Youngs day...
a guy has to carry a gun to protect himself from the “avenging angels” checking temple recommends at the door...

I treat every firearm as if it were a Glock, including my 3 Glocks. Glocks are great, but are more unforgiving of stupidity and lack of familiarity with guns then other semi-autos. I advised a friend on mine who doesn't shoot very much to buy a Sig or Ruger which have "normal" safeties.

My career Army dad taught me this when I was about 9 years old if not before. Simple and effective. I still remember it too.

I carry a .40 Glock and the only way it goes off is a finger on a trigger.
