This is sure to generate discussion.

What this poll says is that Ron Paul could defeat Obama in November 2012. I assume that if Rasmussen asked people if they'd vote for Palin, Romney, Gingrich, Huckabee or any generic Republican, the results would come out pretty much the same.

This poll doesn't make Ron Paul the front runner, or put him ahead of other Republicans in any way. On the other hand, this poll indicates that Paul is electable against Obama. That is not the same thing as saying Paul would win the Republican primary. I think we all know that Ron Paul's base is not Free Republic.

Fire away all.

Actually it is more like Obama is neck and neck with Ron Paul.

Neither have a chance next election.

An unknown will rise to the front during 2012 by then EVERYONE will be fed up with the establishment.

This is fantasy. Paul would lose badly in the primary, let alone in the general.

Ron Paul will be 77 1/2 on inauguration day. He’s too old to be President.

There’s no fantasy there at all. IF Ron Paul got the nomination, that’s how it would go.

It’s not a poll on whether or not Ron Paul would win the nomination.

You could probably put Jim Gilmore (just to pull a name out of the hat) up there vs Obama and the numbers would probably come out pretty much the same. When Rasmussen has Obama with over 40% strongly disapprove, he’s not going to be getting big numbers against any Republican.

As they pushed McCain on America (while silencing Giuliani) because they knew he’d lose to Obama. The news media will always “prop up” the conservative candidate they think will lose against the liberal.

Should be fun to hear what the Paul-Haters say on this.....I find, more and more, the most un-hinged people are the Paul-haters

That’s the kind of thing that Republican Primary voters would factor in in making their decisions. For most, it would not be a plus.

I don’t have any major issues with Ron Paul but I doubt even he considers himself to be a good bet for 2012. He brings some good issue to the debate but needs to drop out sooner.

It’s a Rasmussen poll, and if you actually look at the CBS News article - compared to the USA Today article which I guess we aren’t allowed to post, you’ll see that CBS News does not like Ron Paul one bit.
