Things You Will Need To Survive When The Economy Collapses
The Economic Collapse ^ | May 7, 2010

* This list isn't extensive by any means, so please add more items/tips as they come to mind. Guns & ammo are a given the "list" failed to mention. I guess in order not to cause panic... Today, millions of Americans say that they believe that the United States is on the verge of a major economic collapse and will soon be entering another Great Depression. But only a small percentage of those same people are prepared for that to happen. The sad truth is that the vast majority of Americans would last little more than a month on what they have stored up in their homes. Unless you already live in a cave or you are a complete and total mindless follower of the establishment media, you should be able to see very clearly that our society is more vulnerable now than it ever has been. This year there have been an unprecedented number of large earthquakes around the world and volcanoes all over the globe are awakening. You can just take a look at what has happened in Haiti and in Iceland to see how devastating a natural disaster can be. Not only that, but we have a world that is full of lunatics in positions of power, and if one of them decides to set off a nuclear, chemical or biological weapon in a major city it could paralyze an entire region. War could erupt in the Middle East at literally any moment, and if it does the price of oil will double or triple (at least) and there is the possibility that much of the entire world could be drawn into the conflict.

Preparedness/Survival Ping! Put your two cents here...

I have a good start: wood stoves with tons of "squaw wood" on every acre; a shallow 4' square well, ropes & buckets; a working outhouse kept in good repair; plenty of tame & wild foods, both of the meat & veggie kinds on the property; the means and the will to defend it, and friendly, cooperative neighbors with the same set of assets and attitudes.

Anything beyond that start is nobody's business except on a 'need to know' basis. ;-)

...a shallow ...well, ... a working outhouse kept in good repair; ...

Hopefully not very close to each other.

That link works. It seems that Mediafire requires cookies for people to download and read what others put up. I’ll have to temporarily enable them for the site, and then block them again.

What an inane article.

Mebbe so. But the concept is not inane. Read some recent history and events from Argentina. We could very well be on the same road. Especially with a Marxist dictator in the WH.

“My grandparents grew up during the depression and they not only survived but thrived because they were independent first.”

My mother and her Grandmother survived the Weimar Republic by growing vegetables on a small backyard garden patch. She never ate rutabagas again for the rest of her life.

"...But even without all of that, the truth is that the U.S. economy is going to collapse..."
This is the crux, and bears repeating:

But even without all of that, the truth is that the U.S. economy is going to collapse.

I shout it from the rooftops, but all my friends just think I'm a kook. Even my wife rolls her eyes when I come home from the store: "Great, more lentils" she says.

Damn straight, more lentils. I wanna survive!

Buy and store Ramen noodle soup boxes (12 packs each), in beef and chicken flavors. Also, store up beef and chicken bullion cubes for cooking veggies in bullion. Filling foods in lower calorie mode for folks in hunker down mode. The thirty to fifty gallons of clean water in a water heater can keep you alive a substantial length of time in hunker down mode. Cook and sleep during the day, stay awake all night. ... I think all this stuff has been touched upon in movies.

Wull, uhh, hyuck, uhh, they gotta be close, so ya can get water to flush the outhouse when ya use it! LOL

Over 1/4 mile separation. Both are relics; the well was for the (long gone) orchard & berry fields; there used to be another well near the house, but it is filled in.

Might be prudent to replant the orchard and berries. ;-)

Can your computer display .pdf files?

Yes, it can. I use acrobat pro.

I was not clear. I could have chosen to download. I chose not to. When I visit a website that requires I download something to view it, I make a decision if the content is worth the download.

That is a work in progress, as is the potting shed/greenhouse/chickenhouse. 5 trees going in today; we add a few every year. 50 X 150 garden, plus a couple of other plots.
