WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Senate committee on Thursday took a first step toward ending the policy that allows gays to serve in the military only if they don't disclose their sexual orientation.

In a 16-12 vote, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved a provision to repeal the 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Senate Panel Votes to Lift Military Gay Ban

The Senate Armed Services Committee voted Thursday to allow gays to serve openly in the military.

The committee voted 16-12 to repeal the 1993 law known as “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, was the only Republican to vote in favor of repeal while Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., was the only Democrat to vote against the initiative that was attached to a $760 billion defense spending bill.

I feel so much safer knowing that my freedoms are protected by men who advertise that they want other men’s penises up their rectums.

DADT has not prevented gays from serving in the military. However, the policy has prevented the Gay lobby from using the military to promote their causes.

The ramifications for this will be horrible down the road, as are all liberal policies involving social engineering.

And gays to engage in sexual harassment...I have seen it first hand while out to lunch with my son! We were on a patio and there was a group of gays that came into the restaurant and made suggestive comments to my 19 yr. old son when he went to use the restroom. My son was creeped out by it but not intimidated, I was unglued. Needless to say they backed down real fast when confronted.

And, on another note, military fraggings predicted to increase dramatically.

I'm willing to concede that we might get some good soldiers out of this who are not joining up now because of the ban, but the problem is what my wife pointed out: what happens when we get real-life Klingers who will be more than happy to scream discrimination if they're told this isn't RuPaul's army? A reasonable assumption is that the military would anticipate this and institute a ban on cross-dressing, but, of course, nothing stops Congress from doing away with that ban like they're doing away with this ban. For that matter, they could just include it in the final language since these clymers don't read the bills they vote for anyway.

There is no question that the real intent of lifting this ban is to harm our military. The people pushing this are the same people who have no problem banning the military from college and high school campuses. Just by definition they aren't looking to strengthen the military. They know it's going to cause problems simply to have openly gay troops, but what I believe they're really counting on are the extreme behaviors doing the damage because they'll be argued as part of being gay and therefore protected.

They are going to ram this one through on a party vote and the Dhimmies will break the landspeed record getting it to Premier Hussein to sign.

All four service Chiefs are furious about this, and I would look for some real fireworks if the Dhimmies pull this. Clinton was foolish enough to allow the Senate Armed Services Committee to hold hearings about this in Norfolk, and the hue and cry on Nation TV was such that he had to back down.

Hussein is not going to make that mistake. No hearings, no discussion, no studies by the military, no foot dragging. Just do whatever it takes to make this happen and it will dismantle the military for him.

Lots of people will vote with their feet over this.

The only ones that are not signing up now are the ones for whom openly flaunting their perverse lifestyle is more important than serving their country. We sure as hell don't need them.

The military has voted overwhelmingly (because the leftist Dem bastards hate their guts)Republican for generations.

Get rid of DADT and the Armed forces become a Democrat voting bloc almost overnight.
Won't be able to fight worth a damn but they sure can poof and vote.
(To the rear-SWISH!Forward-SWISH!) Hey Osama!I'm gonna scratch your eyes out!

I wish they would just let the military brass make that decision. The liberals always treat the military like a social experiment.

Those poor kids who are in basic training who decided their enlistment was a mistake. Two kids in my daughter’s basic training declared they were ‘lesbian’ and were shown the door. Now, they can’t claim gayness to get out of their ‘mistake’ and will have to serve. LOL!
