Whew!
She’ll try again...
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.”

Round-the-World Calif. Teen Sailor Found Alive
“
Good news. For the young mariner and her family.
Hope they are ready to PAY THE WHOLE BILL for the search for the
for their MINOR CHILD.
Sure, I know that sounds “b-thcy”.
Bur knowing some “explorers” that have caused $$$$$$ rescue missions
here in the USA...the family should face the same liabilities.
Before the extended family cashes in on a book/movie deal.
There are two earlier threads on this from about three hours ago.
Watch for two trolls, one just signed on today.
Both of them denigrate the brave girl.
We should cheer her for her bravery, and give thanks that she is safe.
The parents should be made to pay for that rescue!
Rich kid on a foolish venture. Who pays the bills?
ping!
Glad she is alive. But this journey was stupid. Being on the high seas all alone for anyone is not safe; and for her parents to allow a teen to do this is ridiculous. Parents jobs’ are to try and keep their teens safe until adulthood. As an adult, if this girl wants to make stupid choices....
The good news is that her parents won't go into the record books as being the parents of the youngest child ever to die while attempting to sail around the world alone.........
Wonderful news!! I really thought she was a goner.
Her parents thought letting their 16-year-old daughter sail solo around the world was a peachy idea ???
Thank God!
I know it's probabaly mom and dad's money to spend as they please. But what a waste.
Well, Geraldo was being that idiot Geraldo and when they went to break, I could read Imus's lips, off mic, say "he's such a f*ckin' ass!", referrring to Geraldo. Had to play it back a couple of times to be sure I saw what I saw. Someone finally called him what he is!
That’s a great way to start the day! Thanks.
I have to say this.
When sailing across oceans, you are generally sailing at less than 10mph, and can see all the way to the horizon. You see a squall coming a long time before it hits. Ditto the rare ships you see in mid ocean.
The boat is very well engineered to float. Float in a marina, float in mid ocean, float sideways in big waves. They float, for decades. Wherever they are. Marina, or ocean. They float.
EPIRBs today mean that even if you are dismasted or in your raft, the entire world will know exactly where you are, for weeks, until rescue arrives.
But folks think its just way too dangerous for a teenager!
The same folks put their teenagers (with cell phones) into two ton steel machines that can go 100 mph. These machines routinely zoom at 60mph down two lane roads, with dump trucks going 60mph the other way, separated by a few feet of air and a yellow painted stripe.
ANYBODY makes a two-yard error, and the teenager is spread across an acre in shreds.
This risk is taken millions of times a day by parents who dont give it more than a passing thought.
And the entire world shudders to think of this girl, in a very safe boat, surrounded by nothing but water, with 3 EPIRBs that will bring rescue to her.
Which, I ask you, is the greater risk? Ten mph, with a six mile horizon? Or 120 mph against a dump truck, with only a yellow stripe for protection?
That is wonderful news. Now send the bill to the parents.
2) I hope her parents are forced to pay the entire cost of her rescue.
3) Those who attempt these risky adventures endanger the lives of the rescuers (who fly helicopters into raging storms and dangle from thin lines to sweep nutty people from the sea) who pluck people from the dangers of their nutty hobby.
4) Am I correct that the bible warns us not to “tempt God”? In my opinion daring the elements for what is essentially a hobby is “tempting God”.
