Germany's thrilling strike force tore apart old rivals England to reach the World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in a 4-1 win marked by an extraordinary blunder from the Uruguayan referee who ruled out a good goal.
- In an incident-packed game at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski took advantage of some shambolic defending by the Three Lions to put Germany 2-0 up after 32 minutes before Matthew Upson headed one back
Minutes later, a shot by England's Frank Lampard went over the goalkeeper, hit the bar and bounced behind the goal-line.
But neither referee Jorge Larrionda nor his assistants saw the goal, and waved play on.
The sense of injustice burning among England's legions of passionate fans dimmed, however, when Thomas Mueller scored two in quick succession in the second half.

I see your point, but I read it as more of a comment as to what happened to Britain after the war. It went downhill after they voted out Churchill in favor of Atlee.
That’s true. And again, at the risk of sounding like an American buttinsky wanting to change the “beautiful game”, put some extra end-line refs out there — at least to get another point of view, if you don’t want technology slowing the pace.
I agree, they don’t have to go overboard and do it like the NFL. But you would think for something as important as verifying goals they could get some help in there.
Well Maggie gave them a fighting chance to come back, but that has been squandered as well.
it did indeed but I get pissed off when America brings their 200 year war up for a game or when the England media brings world war two up .
They have nothing to do with sport.
if the goal had stood then England would not have thrown players forward thus not getting caught on the break.
Fact is Germany played better today when England beat Germany 5,1 England played better.
the score counts in the end and we all know that if we have been following the sport for decades unlike the JCL’s
That’s just it, we can never know, although the horrible English back line did give a pretty indication of how things probably would have went.
And I must say in the case of John Terry, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
The entire west is going to crap not just America or the Uk,
has diversity from third world countries helped the west along, yes I think so but that is another subject and this is sport.
Personally on here I would rather talk about this game as the OP wanted by the headline.
I agree. btw. I guess a “goal cam” would be something that even most of “hardcore” soccer fans could agree with because
it would not slow down the game (and there is still enought place for horrible referee calls ;-)
Leave the rest to the referee (including wrong penalties ;-)
But if they use video to penalize players after a game (as they do) why not just look at the camera to say goal or not goal if you are not shure. This would not end soccer as we know it.
I was amazed how bad Terry played, why on earth was he right up there,
I know England was pushing forward but they should not have been that much up front that early on
Anyway got to go and watch Argentina who I think will win this.
Lol.
“Just don’t mention the war !”
kickball is fun to play(I lettered in high school and college) but watching it for 2 hours or more as the ball bounces around back and forth well no wonder people get stinking drunk at the matches
I wish both teams could lose, but I have to root for the Argies because of Messi, despite that commie coach of theirs’.
That's almost as bad as Carl Yastrzemski and Joe Dimaggio being called Americans.
Have you ever seen "It Happened Here", there was also a documentary called "Hitler's England" that detailed the Nazi plans for England should Germany have occupied her.
the whole west has gone to crap including America but I’ll take it over a bunch of NAZI mass murderers being in control of us.
The NAZIS were scum
Good point. Although I sure wish they could play for the Bialo-Czerwoni.
