The developers of an Islamic cultural center that would include a mosque near Ground Zero have rejected Gov. David Paterson's offer to help them find a different site.
Paterson said today the group is apparently committed to building in the proposed site. "I think they would like to stay where they are, and I certainly respect that and I certainly respect them," Paterson said.
But, Paterson said the dialogue would have been useful as the project has ignited nationwide debate over freedom of religion and anger over the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.. "Having said that, how much more foresighted would it have been if the Imam who is the developer of the project had been willing to hear what we are actually talking about?"
The planned $100 million center would be built two blocks from the World Trade Center site, where nearly 2,800 people died when Islamic extremists flew jets into the twin towers. The project is headed by Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, a Muslim cleric who has worked to improve relations between Islam and the West.

Sources tell CBS 2’s Kramer that Gov. Paterson is concerned that Mayor Mike Bloomberg, a staunch supporter of putting the mosque at ground zero, and President Barack Obama, might be advising mosque leaders to dig in their heels and insist on the present location.
The problem won't be the union bosses not allowing the workers to build the mosque; the bosses will take their orders from Obama. The problem, from what I'm hearing, will be the rank-and-file telling the union bosses to get stuffed.
Obama has decided his 9/11 Victory Mosque will be his line in the sand. The Kenyan will build his tribute to Jihad by whatever means possible.
My thought exactly. The unions make a big deal out of wearing American flags on their hardhats. Are the construction unions going to stand up for that flag, or not?

Con Ed owns half the site
plans submitted and approved include ConEd’s property.

they would have to submit revised plans and this go round will be different in light of nationwide uproar.

and con ed just can’t sell that property without going through reviews,etc.
I would like someone out there to find out what Bloomberg’s payoff for these services will be. I read some rumblings about his business dealings in the UAE but nothing definite.
There’s no doubt in my mind that his actions go wa-a-a-y beyond the usual liberal sanctimony and arrogance. He’s getting something out of this after he leaves office.
Some union will build it. Someone here who works in NYC in construction said bangladeshis and they can also import the workers.
Someone did say that the Cordoba Initiative did not in fact own all of the property in question.
The Union members WILL build the Victory Mosque as a TRIBUTE to Omama and the democrat leadership.
This issue will be dead within 5 days. Just like the trial of the sheikh it will quietly fade away until after the election.
