American Muslims Ask, Will We Ever Belong?
The New York Times ^ | September 5, 2010 | LAURIE GOODSTEIN

Posted on 09/05/2010 8:25:01 PM PDT by Malone LaVeigh

For nine years after the attacks of Sept. 11, many American Muslims made concerted efforts to build relationships with non-Muslims, to make it clear they abhor terrorism, to educate people about Islam and to participate in interfaith service projects. They took satisfaction in the observations by many scholars that Muslims in America were more successful and assimilated than Muslims in Europe.

Now, many of those same Muslims say that all of those years of work are being rapidly undone by the fierce opposition to a Muslim cultural center near ground zero that has unleashed a torrent of anti-Muslim sentiments and a spate of vandalism. The knifing of a Muslim cab driver in New York City has also alarmed many American Muslims.

If “they abhor terrorism” they’d better leave Islam. They obviously haven’t read the Koran.

It seems only the NYTimes "found" this reference, I sure hadn't seen anybody talking like this. In a book I'm reading, the character asks "what is a moderate Muslim?" ... then other character answers, "one who is out of ammunition." Worth a chuckle, but that's the way it "is" today. They have created their own perception by their violent actions (which continue today) and by their silence. You don't Dance in the Streets after something like 9-11 then ask to be "included" in that same ridiculed society... isn't going to happen.

9-11 ... NEVER Forget!

What the Koran says or does not say is not the main issue. They use it as an excuse to blow up innocents, conquer, and enslave. That is the issue.

Let’s ask Salman Rushdie about Muslim moderation. Let’s ask Theo Van Gogh, or the mutiliated woman, or the silenced murder victims, be they homosexuals or the adulteress. Can we stop the lies for 15 minutes and have an honest discussion? This is such a disingenuous article that I tripped over the hypocrisy.

Muslims have a hair trigger sensitivity to the rejection of the Ground Zero mosque, while in the next breath they are telling the 9/11 victims to shut up and take this so-called wonderful gift. I am sorry but slum lord, Hamas supporting Rauf does not get to decide how 9/11 is commemorated, and it is awfully presumptious of him and other Muslims to put this out there and then call us bigots for rejecting it. Americans are not allowed to have feelings about this heinous murder because we are just bigots - and Muslims are suddenly the arbiters of politeness in society?

I find it repulsive to be lectured about toleration from Islamist propagandists. When one million Christians in Saudi Arabia cannot publicly practice their religion under pain of flogging and jail, I am dumbfounded by the hypocrisy. When they stone women for adultery, mutilate females, engage in honor killings, stab film makers to death, throw homosexuals off buildings, treat women like animals, refuse to educate girls and sell non Muslim black Africans into slavery - I am confused, where is the “brotherhood”, where is the gentleness of Islam these proponents tell us about? Where are their cultural center shrines for those victims? Can they sanitize their own house before they demand to clean ours?

This is too one-way and until I hear a balanced debate I reject all their claims.

I would respect them greatly if they took their ‘moderate Muslim’ money and built Christian churches in Saudi Arabis for their guest workers. Then I may begin to believe.

The ‘moderates’ in my view have not even attempted to speak out against the massive horrors their co-religionists continue to inflict upon the world, yet their hair trigger sensitivity calls the most tolerant nation on Earth a bunch of bigots. I reject their claim.

Perhaps if you reform your “faith” and bring it from the eleventh century to the twenty-first century we can have a chat.

Until then, your “good book” dictates that you either convert (at the tip of a sword if necessary) enslave or kill me. No thanks, I don’t want that mentality as a next door neighbor.

No, he'd have to kill a few hundred people over the insult in order to be just like you.

It is better for them to leave than to assimilate.

“Did you note the author’s last name?”

Goodstein? I went back to the article to check the name of the writer. I wonder why you asked whether I noticed.

I originally noted that the article was in the New York Times, which was enough to understand that the article was going to be leftist Bu*lsh*^.

If you are drawing my attention to the fact that the writers name sounds (and probably is) Jewish, then my response is that there is no surprise there.

Leftist, so called progressive Jews are secularists. They do not practice the religion. Progressives, no matter what their religion, worship the state. They are the enemy.

What are your thoughts on that?

Not as a muslim. Forsake that tyrannical, insane death cult that is Islam, and then perhaps, maybe, someday.

Can anyone tell a redeeming story about Islam that happened in the past 1600 years?

Full assimilation will mean that they become heretics and apostates (I.e. Salmon Rushdie, Ayaan Hirsi Ali et al)to the the rest of them thus making them even more vulnerable that the remaining non muslim population.

Yes! Americans are funny that way, aren’t they?
