spotted 'mysterious pulse of light' from direction of newly-discovered '2nd Earth' two years ago
Daily Mail ^ | 1st October 2010 | Niall Firth

An astronomer picked up a mysterious pulse of light coming from the direction of the newly discovered Earth-like planet almost two years ago, it has emerged.

Dr Ragbir Bhathal, a scientist at the University of Western Sydney, picked up the odd signal in December 2008, long before it was announced that the star Gliese 581 has habitable planets in orbit around it.

Dr Bhathal had been sweeping the skies when he discovered a 'suspicious' signal from an area of the galaxy that holds the newly-discovered Gliese 581g.

The remarkable coincidence adds another layer of mystery to the announcement last night that scientists had discovered another planet in the system: Gliese 581g - the most Earth-like planet ever found.

Dr Bhathal's discovery had come just months before astronomers announced that they had found a similar, slightly less habitable planet around the same star 20 light years away. This planet was called Gliese 581e.

He went on: 'We found this very sharp signal, sort of a laser lookalike thing which is the sort of thing we’re looking for - a very sharp spike. And that is what we found. So that was the excitement about the whole thing.'

For months after his discovery Dr Bhathal scanned the skies for a second signal to see whether it was just a glitch in his instrumentation but his search came to nothing.

But the discovery of Earth-like planets around Gliese 581 - both 581e and 581d, which was in the habitable zone - has also caught the public imagination.

Documentary-maker RDF and social-networking site Bebo used a radio telescope in Ukraine to send a powerful focused beam of information - 500 messages from the public in the form of radiowaves - to Gliese 581.

Well, it has been claimed that if anyone had been looking at the moon at precisely 5:29:47.5 a.m. MWT on July 16, 1945, they would have seen it light up momentarily.

Moms never like really cool stuff.

One day I'll tell you what I did to get my Chemistry Set taken away forever. It involved the contents of said kit and a couple of substances that were commonly available to consumers in the mid 1960's.

These days I'd be looking at a 20 year prison stretch...

utterly inane ... the newly identified potentially habitable planet is supposedly some 20 million light years away. if light travels at the speed of light, the mysterious pulse of light emanated 20 million years ago. while it may mean something, it means nothing to us as we were not yet around

Plausible.

There was some info from Linda M Howe last night on C2C about other goings on from some experiencers about stars in that region being the purported origin of some group of ‘ET’s.’

I confess I didn’t pay a lot of attention to it. I plan to replay much of it on Streamlink maybe today. Maybe I’ll catch it and take some notes.

IIRC, some experiencers were claiming some ET’s had intimated that they came from that region. But I wouldn’t swear that THAT was what was said. It was clear that they were talking about the same region, however.

Did it have anything to do with a powdered mixture of saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal?

Gwarsh.

Do I get a badge and decoder ring?

I don’t often get called such things unless it’s through clenched teeth and lots of *)&**#%@^ going with it! LOL.

It would be a LOT easier not to be.

I think a percentage of folks think of me as some crazed, goofy, addled, obsessed, flakey, psychotic, cult engulfed, demoized idiot about such things.

Some folks seem to think that it’s impossible to study such a topic for 45 years in anything like an intelligent, fair-minded, more or less objective and Christian, discerning, Biblical way.

Thankfully, they are wrong.

When I started out, for at least 15-20 years, I didn’t know of another Christian studying the topic with any fair-minded seriousness at all—if at all, period.

And, several different times, wearying of the complexities, occult aspects, general ugliness of many of the goings on—and not particularly enjoying the wholesale derision, hostility etc. that the topic often triggered, I asked God if I could lay the topic and mandate to study and warn about it aside. He always insisted His Grace was sufficient and to keep shoulder to the plow.

INDEED. His Grace HAS been sufficient.

And, at some point, He began to help me have some fun with the dreadful topic.

HE IS THE ONE, AFTER ALL WHO WILL HAVE THE EVIL DOERS OF EVERY TYPE IN TERMINAL DERISION.

BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE WORD OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH, ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB.

Is that the one where the human transformed into a very wierd looking alien, as he was dying . . . shot by a farmer or some such . . . with his wife rushed to the scene, gave their special sign of his finger sliding vertically down his forehead?

We still have a lot of time before they get here. IIRC a light sail can only make an average speed of about 0.1C. That gives them a travel time of two centuries. Subtract the twenty years for the light to get here and two more because this is a two year old report and the Moties should be here around 2188.

Those were actual ingredients in this set and the instructions for a 'gunpowder experiment' were included. I was about 9 I think and I was making gunpowder in my basement.

My mom about dropped stainless steel twinkies when she found me. But that isn't what got it taken away. If I remember correctly it had something to do with carbon tetrachloride....

I think there are more accurate words than silly.

Though probably not for a family site.

A while back, my sig here on FR was “Which will it be, nukes or aliens? Time will tell.” I’m still not sure which they will choose.
