Jerry Brown: California Budget Is "Much Worse Than I Thought -- We've Been Living In Fantasy Land"
Business Insider ^ | 12/15/2010 | Gus Lubin

You know it's a bad sign when the outgoing California governor announces a fiscal emergency and everyone ignores him.

Now incoming governor Jerry Brown has realized how screwed the state is and he's announcing his own budget emergency, according to the LAT.

He said last night: "I'm going to try to get the budget agreements done within about 60 days. I don't think we have a lot of time to waste... It will be a very tough budget, but it will be transparent... We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked."

Hear that, last year's $20 billion budget cuts amounted to living in fantasy land.

Brown implied he would apply major cuts to the education system and other programs. He also refused to rule out new taxes. And it's got to add up to at least $29 billion in cuts.

Yes, but those pigs are just flying by on the way to DC where they will demand more food from our troughs.

Unfortunately, the Governator’s star power overwhelmed McClintock.

Even the FR knitting club went for Arnold. I still remember them chuckling about McClintock's crazy eye.

Not this site's proudest moment.

Ending entitlement programs for illegal immigrants and closing the border will also do wonders. As far as education cuts go, getting the illegal aliens out of the system is gonna have to be the first thing to get the axe. Sorry illegals, the gravy train is over...

A state report said last week that California graduates 55,000 illegals a year from high school.
So lets do the math.. 55,000 x $7,000 per year x 12 grades = $4.62 Billion a year on educating children that are in this state illegally. Not bad.

Arnold NEVER ran as a conservative. Never. He made it crystal clear he was a social liberal.

At some point, we have to realize that Democrats are liars and thieves.

At some point, we have to realize that all Democrats and most Republicans are liars and thieves.

There, that's fixed......

For YEARS our state deficit roughly equalled the amount being spent on illegal immigrants.

But watch - they'll attempt to balance the budget by lawing off police & firemen & closing libraries.

Illegals will come out of any budget fight completely unscathed.

Arnold’s proposals were voted down by the stupid people who bought the union ads, that’s when he folded and went along with the dems.

Arnold didn't fold. He was touting his big-spending enviro-whacko agenda before he was even elected
(if you read the fine print of his policy proposals as opposed to the Hollywood headlines.)

And his proposals wouldn't have done anything to reduce spending or curb the deficit.
They were a fraud just like he is.

55,000 x $7,000 per year x 12 grades = $4.62 Billion

According to this source :

http://www.cft.org/index.php/component/content/article/326-california-slips-a-notch-in-per-pupil-expenditures.html

“Already ranked a dismal 46th in the nation in per pupil spending last year, the California public education budget has fallen to 47th among the states, according to the respected annual report on the nation’s public schools produced by Education Week.”

....

....

“Adjusted for cost of living, California spends $7,571 per student, compared to $9,963 per student nationally. With our state’s students shortchanged by an average of nearly $2,400 per pupil, the survey gave California an “F” in the category of school spending.”

In other words, California isn’t even spending ENOUGH on per pupil education according to some liberals.

And your $7,000 per pupil estimate is on the LOW SIDE.

If we recalculate based on the above figures:

55,0000 X $7,571 X 12 = CLOSE TO $5 BILLION !!

And what is Moonbeam gonna do if the Teacher’s Union whines about the state NOT spending enough on kids?

Bright and perceptive, that Jerry Brown. He could be in the middle of a war and not notice the noise for weeks.

I wonder how the math works out if spending per legal resident student is calculated?

Some cheap advice for the guv: Take an afternoon, go to Torrey Pines (bee-yoo-tee-full place), pour yourself a nice glass of wine and find a quiet place to sit and look out over the ocean. Enjoy the view as the morning haze burns off and the second glass of wine warms your innards.
No, it won’t help the budget but then nothing else will either and at least this will make you feel good on the cheap.
