WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.

The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.

The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.

Years ago, a good host always made sure an ashtray was on the coffee table for guests to enjoy a nice smoke after a hearty meal. Now a smoker has about the same status as racist, perhaps the most evil thing you can call a person nowadays.

LOL. I don't believe I have ever called a smoker evil, but I for one, as a non-smoker, am very happy that I can go out to a nice restaurant, bar, or pool hall, without coming home with my eye's watering and my clothes stinking of smoke.

It was even worse going out for a meal back in the UK when I still lived there because most restaurants and bars are far too small to have non-smoking sections, and the tables are practically on top of each other, and I never ceased to be amazed at the number of smokers who would light up from the very start of their meal -- usually the ones who were sitting next to me!

Soon to be “Former” Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass). He will be a one termer with only three years in office. He must stand for reelection in two years. He has fully declared himself as a RIMO of the first order. I would suggest that he will lose at least 25% of his base with this vote and his other positions. Massachusetts has never been allowed to vote on the gay marriage issue. The Judges (5 to 4) rammed it down the people throats and the lib legislators, which Brown was part of, refused to allow it to be put on a state wide referendum ballot. Bye Bye Brownee in 2012.

Well, if that happens, then I can see them going back. My point was that now we’ll see what happens. I see one of two paths. Either we get a year or two in and people say “well, this really hasn’t changed anything, why was this such a big deal?” or “I told you, look at all these thing that have happened” and we’ll go back to how it is now.

I mean back in the 70s Reagan and others were saying that giving back the Panama Canal would be the end of the world. It wasn’t. I’m not saying we’d beeter off without treaty, but all the doom and gloom predicted never really materialized.

The principle is that open homosexuality in the ranks is not conducive to good discipline and order. The result is unneccesary casualties among the fighters. If one believes that principle to be true then certainly it is their duty to oppose that which causes an increase in casualties, no?

With a conservative as president in 2013, and a GOP controlled Senate, we can try to repeal the repeal.

Job number one is getting more TRUE conservatives elected.

This is a surprise? Brown is doing what he believes he needs to do to get reelected. Voting "Yes" may work against him in the Republican primary but he's obviously calculated that it will cause him less trouble than voting "No" on this issue would in the main election, and I suspect he's right.

I believe this is the text of the bill that was voted on...

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-111hr2965eah/pdf/BILLS-111hr2965eah.pdf

It appears that it’s actually about “COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A REPEAL OF 10 U.S.C. 654.” (Policy concerning homosexuality in the armed forces)...

TITLE 10 > Subtitle A > PART II > CHAPTER 37 > § 654

Huge Pandora’s box has just opened.

You are 100% correct, and I am sure there are even people here on Free Republic who have no idea what is about to transpire.

I served 21 years as an Air Force officer and pilot, and worked several years after that as a defense contractor with both DoD civilians, other contractors, and active duty personnel.

Here is what is going to happen:

1. There will be a massive new "training" program that all active duty, DoD civilians, and DoD contractors will have to undergo regarding this new "policy." If the "Equal Opportunity Training" the military has forced down people's throats in the past is an accurate indicator (and it is), then this new "training" will be authoritative, dictatorial, and corrupt. Anyone refusing the training, or not "head nodding" during its propaganda sessions will be called out and persecuted for not towing the line.

2. There will be massive "payback" by many homosexuals in any sort of leadership or supervisory position in the military and the Dept of Defense. They will be strutting like peacocks, and looking to retaliate against anyone they feel has "oppressed" them in the past.

3. The above two events will lead, inevitably, towards incredible persecution of one group: Christians. Any believing Christian who dares speak the truth about what God Himself calls this terrible sin (an abomination) will be hunted down, persecuted, and destroyed.

4. At a time when the military is getting is lowest pay raise in 50 years, retired military have not received a cost of living increase for the second year in a row, and DoD civilians are getting their pay frozen for 2 years - millions will now be spent for homosexual "partners" housing, health care, dental care, insurance, and increased pay increments for dependents (which is meant for families with children).

5. Now that this perversion is officially endorsed, every other perversion (incest, bestiality, pedophilia) will come out of the "closet" and demand recognition and applause.

Finally, this nation will bring the wrath of the Almighty God upon us. This unhappy truth will become manifest.

Our great military will be destroyed with the stroke of Obama's pen. Satan must be laughing tonight.

"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity."

From a review of the report that shows it will degrade the military significantly:

“So, while disputing the very fact that homosexuality is an identity at all and is instead a behavior, even when granting that identity argument, it still shows an increased risk of other associated mental health problems. Why would anyone wish to increase the participation of homosexuals in the military? The repeal isn’t for the existing members of the service who suffer from same sex attraction. They are already serving. If they feel less included, well that’s too bad. They understand the culture in which they operate and have adapted to function. They chose to contribute to the military. They have their disorder under control or at least hidden. By changing the military culture to endorse the disorder, the promoters of gays in the military radically risk chaos in the function of our armed services. The military has a standard of good order and discipline. Their mission involves life and death and war. Anything that degrades that mission is not a positive development, and open service by homosexuals degrades that mission.

So if it isn’t about the military, then why the push by those with the disorder and their supporters for repeal? Why the need to demand that the military allow those with same sex attraction disorder serve openly? It is because there is another agenda operating. This report, and the effort, has nothing to do with the military and everything to do with the promotion of the disorder across society.

The gay lobby has tied their promotion of their disorder to the Civil Rights movement. They are using the military to follow that agenda. The effort is to tie their push for the acceptance and active promotion of homosexuality to the desegregation of the military in 1948. The two cannot be equated as homosexuality is a behavior and being black is an identity. The moral component is also lacking if it can be considered at all in an age when all things moral are discouraged, disparaged, and marginalized.

This tactic is done without any concern as to how the military is affected. They couldn’t care less. This is about normalizing and promotion of homosexuality and the military is a tool to do this. If the military is altered to normalize this disorder, then there is little defense for marriage, religious objection, and individual states complaints. The push is all about the promotion of homosexuality in the greater society and nothing about the military or its mission. If a person wants to serve in the military it is because they wish to join the service and serve. They should want to contribute, not have the military serve them. What selfishness! What a degrading effect on the services!

That’s a pretty strong motive by a group with an agenda to be completely ignored by the press. On any story when a company or government entity puts out a report, shouldn’t the press question whether to take the report at face value? Or is there some reason for the report? Shouldn’t they examine the people writing the report to see if there is an ulterior motive? If the report itself is simply a lever to accomplish an agenda that is destructive, shouldn’t the press look into who is doing the destruction and why?”

This will be used to hammer gay marriage nationwide and invalidate any state opposition. That’s the purpose. That’s the goal.

I can only hope this will have the most dramatically unfavorable unintended consequences (to the leftie enablers) of any decision ever made in the history of civilian-controlled military.

This is the only way I can possibly find any peace in the aftermath of this. In a real crappy mood for Christmas Eve week otherwise.

“I cannot even pray to God to save this once great country anymore, ...”

Then pray HE will soon strike down our elected leaders, DEAD!

Here is a suggestion:

“Our Father, who art in Heaven... Deliver us from evil... We ask that Your Might Hand raise up just servants, strong in arms, so they may swiftly strike down those unrepentant reprobate souls, whom have perverted Your Law and corrupted this land. AMEN”
