Enrollment of Muslim students is growing at Catholic colleges in U.S.
Washington Post ^ | December 20, 2010 | William Wan

On a quick break between classes last week, Reef Al-Shabnan slipped into an empty room at Catholic University to start her daily prayers to Allah.

In one corner was a life-size painting of Jesus carrying the cross. In another, the portrait of a late priest and theologian looked on. And high above the room hung a small wooden crucifix.

This was not, Shabnan acknowledged, the ideal space for a Muslim to pray in. After her more than two years on campus, though, it has become routine and sacred in its own way. You can find Allah anywhere, the 19-year-old from Saudi Arabia said, even at the flagship university of the U.S. Catholic world.

In the past few years, enrollment of Muslim students such as Shabnan has spiked at Catholic campuses across the country. Last year, Catholic colleges had an even higher percentage of Muslim students than the average four-year institution in the United States, according to the Higher Education Research Institute. The influx has astonished and sometimes befuddled administrators. Some Catholic campuses are creating prayer rooms for new Muslim students and hiring Islamic chaplains to minister to them. Others are unsure how to adapt.

They’re not even presenting a horse statue to trick us, they’re just going right past the portcullis and the open square and plopping down in the middle of the yard with prayer mats in hand.

Folks, we’ve crossed so many points of no return that we’re barreling down the track at full speed with the approaching bridge collapsed in the river below.

Am I the only one that sees a problem with this?

How about the Catholic administrators NOT catering to their false religion? Are they so blind or just stupid?! Don’t come to a Catholic Univ unless you accept the faith. PERIOD!

This is just wrong on so many levels.

This epitomizes what is wrong with our country today.

“Some Catholic campuses are creating prayer rooms for new Muslim students and hiring Islamic chaplains to minister to them. “

WHY!

Catholicism has NOTHING in common with Islam except maybe Fatima. Mohammad's daughter claimed she saw Mary. It's nuts but that's the only thing they may have in common. How anyone that claimed to see a ghost would KNOW it was Mary is beyond me since there are NO IMAGES of her. A fallen angel was certainly rewarded by Satan. For Christians, it's ALL ABOUT CHRIST!

I don't understand it.

Accommodating EVIL is not the Christian thing to do!

Islam is EVIL to the core.

Didn't the Catholic Pope also warn their followers NOT to marry Islamic people? I'm not Catholic, but I thought I read this somewhere on FR. If this is true, then WHY cater to EVIL?

The Catholic Universities began to break away from the faith more than 40 years ago. The saddest part is that they were allowed to do so. As far as I can see, these are, for the most part, no longer Catholic in anything but name. None of my children will ever attend at most of them. And it’s the weaselish, sniveling political correctness and lack of moral center that is causing events like those described in the article to occur. By the same token, classes on islam (forever small i) at a purported Catholic university. How low we have fallen from the days when the Catholic university was a bastion of civilization. (Sorry for all the vitriol - celiac issues today)

nmh, look up the Land-o-lakes rebellion. These were once (not now), Catholic in much more than name. Not anymore. Otherwise, BHO wouldn’t have been invited to speak, solely based on the abortion/embryonic stemm cell stance/actions.

Because America is under the most aggressive attack ever ... by Satan.

We started as a Christian nation and as long as we were primarilly Christian; God fearing, honoring and believing .. we were blessed and protected by God.

When we complacently told God to leave our hearts and ignored His pleas, He, though still knocking, lost effectiveness because of the hardness of our hearts.

I'm sorry, but Catholicism was an easy target and wholly conquerable religion with it's diversity of worship ... The traditional God, Jesus and Holy Spirit .. but Mary, many saints, holy places and icons as well.

One could almost make a comparison to the many gods of Buddhism.

Dear Catholics ... if you decide to truly accept the holy war against the satanic Allah and it adherants... I will be there with you.

The influx has astonished and sometimes befuddled administrators.

Just wait until they begin demanding equal rights .... and their own prayer rooms ... and prayer times ... and the right to 'process' a goat in their dorm room.

By then, the 'administrations' will be so dependent on the arab oil money coming in that they will capitulate to the demands.

Roman Catholics do not pray to icons,Mary or the Saints.

They ask them to pray for them.

Yes ... but Christians do have common ground with Catholics and that is Christ. The unwise use of PRAYING TO Mary and other dead sinners does separate us as well as some “interpretation” differences but still, CHRIST is the centerpiece of their religion. Catholics should know better than to accommodate Islam which is totally evil.
