I never knew snow was so rare in the carolinas and tenn.

Having lived most my entire life in NE/IA and vacationed in UT, CO, the dakotas, MN, and MO, all I know is snowy winters. You guys just don’t know what winter is until you’ve seen a north central nebraska ice storm or northwest iowa thunder-snow. You get out in the badlands of NE, SD, and WY and if the wind blows hard, just an inch of snow is a disaster. And then there’s MN. It gets so cold up there your car will barely make enough heat to keep the ice off a fist sized area ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR windshield. Tank driving experience comes in handy.

Temps here in the mid 40s now but that's projected to change. Temps are supposed to drop. Last report I saw has a mix of rain and snow forecasts all along the coast almost as far south as the Georgia/Florida border. Showing forecast of snow in Summeville by 8:00 AM. By afternoon they're predicting snow everywhere in the Low Country. At least expect bridge icing Sunday night.

The dims, rats, progressives, liberals, democrats and communists are busy preparing for global warming.

What with the lack of sunspots and the Gulf Loop switched off...

those of us in the know are preparing for the coming ice age...

...in which millions will die...

the good news is that dims, rats, progressives, liberals, democrats and communists

will go first.

We have a little less than an inch here in Abbeville, but it is still snowing.

Yesterday, we were at my in-laws in Marietta (SC)and it snowed quite a bit while we were there.

First white Christmas around here since '63.

Little over 2 inches of wet snow here in Joe Wilson’s district in West Columbia, SC. A “lake effect snow” transplant from Michigan several years ago, I am amused. Usually everything closes down here on the “threat” of snow. Churches closed today, but the retailers are open for the day after madness. Snow will be gone by the afternoon. Mid 50’s mid week.

Oops, yes I did. My apologies to the list.

FWIW, I've got a little less than an inch here in Aiken County. I'm waxing up the runners on my sled.

It is now twenty minutes past eleven AM on the 26th and a steady light snow is falling here within earshot of I-95. Probably an inch and a half on the ground here.

I keep remembering my introduction to the unreliability of “expert” sources back when I was in grade school. My parents bought a new set of encyclopedias and one of the first things I did was look to see what they said about South Carolina. Under climate it said, “Snow falls ONLY in the mountains”. I immediately informed my mother that the new books couldn’t be counted on.

I don’t think you can blame the rear wheel drive, I have driven for fifty miles at a stretch with RWD on pure ice, frozen rain anywhere from a skin to three inches thick. The only time I hit anything was when another car turned left right in front of me and I couldn’t stop. Going down the road like a slinky probably resulted from either stepping on the accelerator too much or stepping on the brakes too hard.

I have driven up and down many hills with rear wheel drive with ordinary tires, the biggest problem I had was getting started and getting stopped. Getting started is usually a matter of knowing how but stopping is a matter of planning ahead and praying that nothing jumps out if front of you.

Some of us still have nightmares about February of ‘73! There were people stranded everywhere, helicopters were rescuing folks from the interstate highways. Snow removal equipment had to be brought down from Pennsylvania and points North. The official measurement at Rimini was 24 inches. Hardly anyone down South is prepared for that. People were burning the seats from their vehicles on the road to try to get warm. I personally knew at least one family who were stuck in a service station for three or four days and glad to be there. I was a nicotine addict at the time and I walked a four mile round trip in 17 inches of powder to get cigarettes. I was sore for a week after that, no snowshoes or skis, just bogging to my knees with every step.

By the way, the official forecast for that storm was, “Possible heavy accumulations up to FIVE INCHES in some areas.
